A Comparison Of Four Professional Groups' Support For A Strengthened Dui Law, George A. Youngs Jr., Thomas D. Mcdonald, Robert A. Wood, Richard W. Rathge
Great Plains Sociologist
This study examined support patterns among criminal justice professionals for an enhanced DUI law. We surveyed North Dakota's police, prosecutors, judges, and addiction counselors to measure their personal support and their perceptions of the support of others for the law. Respondents generally favored the strengthened law, but consistent with role theory, there were significant between group differences. There also were significant differences in personal versus perceived peer support and in perceived peer support versus the perceived support of other groups. Groups tended to agree in the differential levels of support they attributed to other groups. Implications for a coordinated system …

Since the release of the Missouri Model for Trauma-Informed Schools approved by the Department of Elementary and Secondary Education (DESE) in 2019, school leaders were given the opportunity to start the process of meeting the emotional and fundamental needs of students. With the effects of trauma reaching all diverse groups of race, gender, economic status, and community surroundings, there is an increased need to use the education system to reach students emotionally. Though the model is a blueprint for schools, school districts are not required to adopt this model and implement it within their districts. Due to the recent pandemic, …

Public Land & Resources Law Review
On February 22, the Supreme Court of the United States will decide the single issue of whether a Court of Indian Offenses constitutes a federal entity and, therefore, separate prosecutions in federal district court and a Court of Indian Offenses for the same act violates the Double Jeopardy Clause as prosecutions for the same offense.

Hotels In Distress: Surviving An Economic Downturn Through Non-Traditional Contracting, Leslie Mckee
Hotels In Distress: Surviving An Economic Downturn Through Non-Traditional Contracting, Leslie Mckee
Texas A&M Journal of Property Law
The hospitality industry is no stranger to market fluctuation, but with the onset of a global pandemic, 2020 left its mark as the worst year on record for the industry. With vacancy permeating hotels across the nation, hotel owners faced a year of tough financial decisions, while the unrelenting demands of mortgage payments and operating expenses loomed in the background. Uncertainty became the new normal, and the term “unprecedented” became commonplace as the pandemic lingered beyond initial expectations. The one-year anniversary of the 2019 novel coronavirus (“COVID-19”) pandemic passed without effect as the crisis situation spilled over into a new …
Patently Absurd: The Invention Secrecy Order System, Gregory Saltz
Patently Absurd: The Invention Secrecy Order System, Gregory Saltz
Texas A&M Journal of Property Law
The current patent application secrecy order system has almost no safeguards to prevent abuse and overreach into private intellectual property rights by the Government. Defense agencies are presently able to have the United States Patent and Trademark Office place secrecy orders on applications by merely deciding for themselves that revelation of information found therein would be detrimental to national security; there are no rules or restrictions on how the agencies go about making this determination. Likewise, the current system contains little in the way of protection for inventors who are left without a meaningful way to challenge these orders. The …

Abolish Copaganda!: An Acab Analysis Of Sisters And The Wicker Man And The Ramifications Of Abolitionist Spectatorship, Anjali Moore
Tapestries: Interwoven voices of local and global identities
After the 2020 Twin Cities Uprising, the term “ACAB” (All Cops Are Bastards) surged in popularity though it has been in circulation for nearly a century. Applying an ACAB lens to films suggests an intentional approach to spectatorship by integrating a critical consciousness about the systemic racism that the police embody. Portrayals of police are an omnipresent occurrence in media of all kinds and often function to cultivate trust in their authority. Brian DePalma’s 1973 slasher Sisters and Robin Hardy’s 1973 cult classic The Wicker Man exhibit notable anti-police sentiment that may feel unexpectedly radical for a pre-Uprising world. Using …

Hope V. Harris: Brief Of Amici Curiae Current And Former Prosecutors And Department Of Justice Officials In Support Of Petitioner, Barbara Mcquade
Appellate Briefs
Amici are 45 current and former federal, state, and local prosecutors, state attorneys general, and Department of Justice officials with experience prosecuting and establishing policies for prosecuting serious crimes. Amici recognize that humane conditions of incarceration are important to the community’s trust in the fairness of the criminal justice system and, in turn, to individuals’ willingness to report crimes, act as witnesses, and serve as fair and impartial jurors. As stewards of public safety, amici also have an interest in ensuring that incarcerated people—the vast majority of whom are eventually released—are given the opportunity to rejoin society successfully and refrain …
