Automating Administrative Approvals At Syracuse University With Infoready, Christina Leigh Docteur, Chetna Chianese
Automating Administrative Approvals At Syracuse University With Infoready, Christina Leigh Docteur, Chetna Chianese
Office of Research
When COVID hit, Syracuse University needed a solution to process multi-step approvals – fast. That meant thinking creatively and out of the box because when time, accuracy, and error-free routing are critical, traditional submission systems aren’t ideal. That’s precisely why Syracuse turned to InfoReady. And what the InfoReady platform did so powerfully in streamlining limited submissions also turned out to work well for research travel applications, visiting scholar requests, research identification, and essential research approval.

Social Work Doctoral Dissertations
Police officers dedicate their careers to serving and protecting the communities they work in. Research is finding that the intensity of demands put on their mental health has turned suicide rates amongst police officers is at critical levels and has been declared by experts to be a ‘pandemic’ in the population (Wylie, 2020). There are very few researchers who broach police officers’ mental health. Social workers’ education and values make them uniquely qualified to engage in this study. The literature in policing supports that there are no assessments designed specifically for police and there are no known measures that provide …
Risk Regulation And Management Against Illegal Wildlife Trade: Europe And America, Olonyi Bosire
Risk Regulation And Management Against Illegal Wildlife Trade: Europe And America, Olonyi Bosire
Sustainable Development Law & Policy
Introduction
The source or initial crime in the illegal wildlife trade chain is mostly committed beyond the shores of North America and Europe. However, the two regions continue to be massive destination markets and key transit hubs for illegal wildlife products. Illegal trade networks are shadowy and therefore problematic to study. This helps explain the wide valuation of illegal wildlife trade currently estimated by the Global Environment Facility (“GEF”) as ranging between 7 and 23 billion dollars per annum.
Policies and strategies to pre-empt or respond to illegal wildlife trade keep evolving as appreciation grows for the previously underestimated complexities, …

A Forward-Thinking Approach To Addressing The New Synthetic Opioid 2-Benzylbenzimidazole Nitazene Analogs By Liquid Chromatography-Tandem Quadrupole Mass Spectrometry (Lc-Qqq-Ms), Sara E Walton, Alex J Krotulski, Barry K Logan
College of Life Sciences Faculty Papers
Novel psychoactive substances (NPS) continue to represent a threat to public health and safety. The number of new drugs in the latest emergent synthetic opioid class-the 2-benzylbenzimidazole analogs-also called the nitazenes-has begun to dominate the current new synthetic opioid (NSO) subclass of NPS. We describe a liquid chromatography-tandem quadrupole mass spectrometry method for the quantification of nine analogs and/or metabolites of drugs in this series: isotonitazene, metonitazene, protonitazene, etonitazene, clonitazene, flunitazene, N-desethyl isotonitazene, 5-amino isotonitazene and 4'-hydroxy nitazene in human whole blood, urine, and tissue. Samples were prepared for analysis using a basic liquid-liquid extraction. Chromatographic separation was achieved using …
Reconciling Reproductive Rights: Eugenic Abortion And Home Birth Disputes At The European Court Of Human Rights, Olivia Coral Daniels
Reconciling Reproductive Rights: Eugenic Abortion And Home Birth Disputes At The European Court Of Human Rights, Olivia Coral Daniels
Duke Law Journal
Reproductive autonomy has been at the heart of culture clashes across the world for decades. Judicial intervention has proven necessary to resolve the rights and interests clashes between pregnant women, medical care providers, and fetuses. At the European Court of Human Rights (“ECtHR”), judges have carefully parsed Article 8 of the European Convention on Human Rights to balance the various rights implicated, including the right to abortion, the right to agency in giving birth, and the right to conscientious objection. Further, decisionmakers may take into account state interests in fetal life. As the ECtHR prepares to face the next stages …
Long Over-Due Process: Proposing A New Standard For Pretrial Detainees' Length Of Confinement Claims, Kendall Huennekens
Long Over-Due Process: Proposing A New Standard For Pretrial Detainees' Length Of Confinement Claims, Kendall Huennekens
Duke Law Journal
Prolonged pretrial detention poses one of the greatest unchecked threats to due process in the United States. The Supreme Court has never announced the proper analysis to adjudicate detainees’ allegations of prolonged detention pending trial (for criminal detainees) or removal (for noncitizens in immigration detention centers). Because the Court has continually ducked this constitutional question, detainees and courts alike lack guidance regarding how to vindicate this fundamental liberty interest.
This Note identifies the inconsistencies in the Court’s due process jurisprudence generally, as well as the dangers intrinsic to collapsing the standards used to evaluate pretrial detainees’ claims under the Due …

Safe At Home: Addressing Virginia's Housing Policy Concerns In A Pandemic, Ghazala Hashmi
Richmond Public Interest Law Review
This article examines the crisis of eviction that exists in the Commonwealth
of Virginia and the ways in which the COVID-19 pandemic highlighted
the particular vulnerability of low-income and minority communities.
Zoning policies, financing practices, limitations on tenants’ rights, and other
legal structures built into the Virginia Code underscore issues of systemic
racism that exacerbate the lack of affordable housing and instability of rental
opportunities. The article provides a highlight of recent legislation passed by
the Virginia General Assembly that seeks to address some of these concerns.

Empowering The Defense To Confront The Government's Powers: Virginia Criminal Justice Legal Reform, Bryan Kennedy, Catherine F. Zagurskie
Empowering The Defense To Confront The Government's Powers: Virginia Criminal Justice Legal Reform, Bryan Kennedy, Catherine F. Zagurskie
Richmond Public Interest Law Review
During the 2021 Session and 2021 Special Session, Virginia took steps to
restore the balance between individuals ensnared in the criminal legal system
and the government. These new laws allow people who are involved in
the criminal legal system to emphasize their humanity and to hold the government
to its various burdens at all stages of the case, including pre-trial,
trials, sentencing, and appeal. This article discusses four of the most important
changes to Virginia law that ensure a more level playing field between
the government and the accused.
First, eliminating the presumption against bail challenges the government’s
power of …

The European Super League (Esl): A Political Economy And Media Framing Analysis, Patrick Sidwell
USF Tampa Graduate Theses and Dissertations
The European Super League (ESL) offers an opportunity for research as a case study which exemplifies the potential for sports to engender seismic societal events. To try to understand the ESL and the events surrounding it, this thesis examined it through the dual frameworks of political economy and framing theory to comprehend the roles played by corporate owners and working-class fans who support the game. An overview of the political economic processes of English football was conducted to create meaningful insights. From there, using framing as a theoretical guide, a thematic media analysis was performed across 251 news articles from …
Monitoring Of Structural Quality Under Construction Using 3d Point Cloud Data, Xinxing Yuan
Monitoring Of Structural Quality Under Construction Using 3d Point Cloud Data, Xinxing Yuan
Civil Engineering ETDs
Inspection of infrastructure under construction has become an active research topic in the past few decades. Due to rising costs and safety concerns of current inspection methods, automated inspection methods are proposed. In this context, this dissertation has developed a framework that uses 3D point cloud data from the bridge under construction and evaluates the design specifications and the strength capacity of the structure while is being built. This study presents a slicing algorithm for automatically evaluating rebar placement using 3D point cloud data. The outcomes of this research provide structural engineering with (i) automatic inspection of reinforcement during construction; …

Hajj Pilgrims’ Perceptions Of Trust And Internet Use For (Emergency) Information, Sudha Arlikatti, Hassan A. Taibah, Praveen Maghelal, Simon A. Andrew, Saad A. Alkhurayyif
International Journal of Religious Tourism and Pilgrimage
This empirical study examines the patterns of internet use during Hajj, with the broader aim of providing suggestions on how organisations can improve risk communication at crowded religious venues using traditional and new media. The research team adopted a convenience sampling strategy to conduct in-person surveys of 348 Hajj pilgrims in the vicinity of the Grand Mosque in Madinah, Saudi Arabia during the October 2013 season. Of these, 150 pilgrims used the internet and their responses were analysed using simple descriptive statistics and binary regression analyses. The findings of this study suggest that Hajj pilgrims prefer accessing the internet through …
