The Impact Of Perceived Manipulation, Motives, And Ethicality In Cause-Related Marketing: A Crm+ Model, Nathan W. Twyman, Sarah M. Stanley, Cassandra C. Elrod, Tamara M. Masters

Business and Information Technology Faculty Research & Creative Works

We Developed a CRM+ Model using Experimentation and Structural Equation Modeling Analysis. CRM+ Demonstrates Previously Unexplored Interrelationships among Consumer-Perceived Manipulation, Brand Motives, Perceived Ethicality of the Cause-Related Marketing, and Brand Attitude. CRM+ Reveals that Perceived Ethicality of the CRM Has a Significant Positive Effect on Brand Attitude, Though It is Not as Pronounced as the Effect of Perceived Altruistic Motives. Egoistic Motives Decrease Ethicality Perceptions But Has No Direct Effect on Brand Attitude. Altruistic Motive Perceptions Diminish Egoistic Motive Perceptions. CRM+ Suggests Marketing Managers Should Prioritize Emphasizing Altruistic Motives and Ethicality of the Partnership over Downplaying Egoistic Motives.

Approaches Towards Elucidating Emotional Responses To Music Theatre, Rt Green

School of Art, Design and Architecture

As a result of recent publications in the field of music theatre there has been a resurgence of interest in this highly misunderstood art form. This paper discusses the methodology and results from an online survey which investigated emotional responses to orchestration1 and instrumental aesthetics in contemporary music theatre. This report summarises the current literature, demonstrates gaps in the field, and suggests how further research may benefit the development of new music theatre. The research tests the hypothesis that music theatre is accidentally alienating to non-familiar audiences because of its complex musical language and perceived associations with opera and the …

Capital Punishment And The ‘Acnestis’ Of Its Modern Reformation, Sudarsanan Sivakumar Jan 2022

Capital Punishment And The ‘Acnestis’ Of Its Modern Reformation, Sudarsanan Sivakumar

Human Rights Brief

The term “Capital Punishment” encompasses any penalizing punishment that results in the death of people accused of committing a crime.1 This damnation dates back to the Eighteenth Century B.C. in the “Code of Hammurabi,” a misemployed code that ensured the death penalty for twenty-five distinct crimes. People convicted of crimes were made to suffer for their actions in horrific ways, including being burnt alive and drowning.2 Since then, death by hanging has been the conventional method for capital punishment in most of the world.

Comparative Disability Policy In Employment, Kevin Rudolph Jan 2022

Comparative Disability Policy In Employment, Kevin Rudolph

Emory International Law Review

For individuals living with disabilities, the ability to obtain employment can be challenging. But often it is not the disability itself that causes the challenge, but employers and society’s prejudices. While national legislation both in the United States and abroad have attempted to dispel this prejudice through anti-discrimination programs, novel (or reimagined) solutions are needed to proliferate employment for disabled individuals.

This Comment explores the history of disability employment across the Atlantic by focusing on how the United States, Germany, and the United Kingdom have responded to proliferating employment for disabled individuals. Additionally, this Comment explores both what steps these …

Three Countries, One Problem: How The United States, United Kingdom, And France Handle Sexual Assaults In Higher Education, Annia Rochester Jan 2022

Three Countries, One Problem: How The United States, United Kingdom, And France Handle Sexual Assaults In Higher Education, Annia Rochester

Emory International Law Review

Thirty-five percent of women worldwide will face physical or sexual violence. Female students within the United States, United Kingdom, and France are especially vulnerable to sexual assault and harassment due to a lack of protection from their governments. Failing to address the issue of sexual assault in higher education risks disrupting the education of student victims who are disproportionately women. Despite France and the United Kingdom signing the Istanbul Convention and the United States’ implementation of Title IX, these three nations have not done enough to prevent sexual misconduct among university-age students. All three nations have varying campus cultures and …

Monasky V. Taglieri: The Supreme Court’S Interpretation Of Habitual Residency And Its Impact On International Child Abduction, Abigail Leann Heeter

Loyola University Chicago International Law Review

The most common form of kidnapping is when a child is taken by a parent from a co-parent. When the kidnapping parent is native to another country, navigating the international family courts can be more than challenging. Because of this, the Hague Convention on the Civil Aspects of International Child Abduction created an order that all signatory countries must return an abducted child to their location of habitual residency. However, the Hague Convention declined to define what habitual residency meant, leaving it up to the determination of the Courts. Recently, the U.S. Supreme Court confronted this issue in the landmark …

School of Biological and Marine Sciences

AimLatitudinal and bathymetric species diversity gradients in the deep sea have been identified, but studies have rarely considered these gradients across hard substratum habitats, such as seamount and oceanic island margins. This study aimed to identify whether the current understanding of latitudinal and bathymetric gradients in α-diversity (species richness) apply to seamount ecosystems, as well as ascertaining whether identifiable trends were present in seamount β-diversity along a bathymetric gradient.LocationExclusive Economic Zones of Saint Helena, Ascension Island and Tristan da Cunha, spanning 8–40°S in the South Atlantic.TaxonSeamount megabenthic communities.MethodsImages from 39 transects, collected between 250 and 950 m, were used to …

In-The-Making: Understanding The Process Of Building Social Resilience And Experiences Of Forced Migrant Families In Plymouth, Uk., Hoayda Darkal Jan 2022

In-The-Making: Understanding The Process Of Building Social Resilience And Experiences Of Forced Migrant Families In Plymouth, Uk., Hoayda Darkal

School of Geography, Earth and Environmental Sciences Theses

Forced migration has recently reached an all-time record. With the flows of forced migrants across Europe, and the states’ responses to the forcible movement of people focusing on ‘migration management’ on one hand while pushing for the agendas of resilience building on the other, it is vitally important to question the effectiveness of resilience strategies for those experiencing forced migration first-hand in the developed countries. This thesis provides a critical understanding of social resilience, as a process rather than an outcome, in the context of forced migrant families in the UK. In developing a framework based upon family migration this …

Caliphs, Jinns, And Sufi Shrines: The Protection Of Cultural Heritage And Cultural Rights Under Islamic Law, Eleni Polymenopoulou

Emory International Law Review

This Article examines the position of the Islamic legal tradition on arts and cultural heritage, including its pitfalls, and argues that a better understanding of Muslim state practice is needed to enhance the protection of cultural rights in the Muslim world. This can further facilitate collaboration between Muslim states and inter-governmental bodies working in the field of culture; implement better accountability mechanisms under international criminal law, as well as; to contribute to the fight against terrorism. In addition, the author submits that Islamic law is not necessarily an appropriate platform to enhance cultural rights and cultural heritage in the Muslim …

The New Slot Machine: An International Perspective On Why The United States Should Learn To Stop Loving The Loot Box, Ajay Harish Jan 2022

The New Slot Machine: An International Perspective On Why The United States Should Learn To Stop Loving The Loot Box, Ajay Harish

Emory International Law Review

Games of chance are woven into the fabric of human culture. Rapid shifts in technology have resulted in the creation of the loot box, a new video game monetization scheme formed from the dregs of slot machines and trading cards. While extremely lucrative, the existence of loot boxes allows game companies to expose children to wager-like behavior, potentially creating a new generation of problem gamblers. The United States is both financially and culturally tied to video games as an industry and has been slow in its regulation of loot boxes. Given the problematic nature of loot boxes, existing regulations in …

The Digital Sabbath And The Digital Distraction: Arts-Based Research Methods For New Audiences, Lisa F. Paris, Julia Morris, John Bailey Jan 2022

The Digital Sabbath And The Digital Distraction: Arts-Based Research Methods For New Audiences, Lisa F. Paris, Julia Morris, John Bailey

Research outputs 2022 to 2026

Despite the known affordances of Arts-Based Research Practice within the international education environment, its use remains relatively uncommon in Western Australia. The reasons for this are likely the contested nature of quality criteria by which Arts-Based Practice is evaluated as well as the challenges as well associated with the dissemination of research findings. Mixed-methods research is increasingly recognised as an appropriate and practical approach for education phenomena, and within this domain, inquiry that combines traditional qualitative and arts-based strategies offers the education researcher advantages that are not readily available through other approaches. As professional artists and researchers we share our …

Childhood abuse and neglect is currently a prevalent issue in our society. Children who do not receive adequate support and ongoing services experience lasting impacts on their mental health and ability to cope with future events. Child Advocacy Centers (CAC) are community-based agencies that promote the intervention of childhood abuse and neglect. This setting, paired with the tailored support of Certified Child Life Specialists (CCLS), is an under-researched yet promising combination of services that can encourage the healing process for these children and their families. This study aims to understand the role of CCLSs in a CAC and how their …

Cross-Group Friendships And Skin Tone Perceptions, Jhenifa Parker Jan 2022

Cross-Group Friendships And Skin Tone Perceptions, Jhenifa Parker

EWU Masters Thesis Collection

George Allport (1954) coined the term contact hypothesis to explain the relationship between intragroup friendships/interactions and perceptions toward that group. Allport’s hypothesis had been scrutinized as an intervention for reducing prejudices and biases against groups who collectively experience discrimination. This theory was mainly tested in terms of cross-group friendships between individuals of a different ethnicity, racial group, physical ability, and so on; however, very little research has explored this hypothesis in the context of skin tone perceptions. Colorism has had an historical and pervasive impact on individuals categorized as racial/ethnic minorities. This study attempted to bridge the gaps in research …

The Role Of Appraisal Politics On Appraisal Systems And Employee Silence Within The Public Sector In South Korea, Jin-Woong Yoo Jan 2022

The Role Of Appraisal Politics On Appraisal Systems And Employee Silence Within The Public Sector In South Korea, Jin-Woong Yoo

Plymouth Business School Theses

Purpose: There has been much discussion about employee appraisals within the public sector in South Korea, owing to the lack of accuracy in performance ratings (Ahn & Cho 2018). Despite the awareness that the inaccuracy in performance ratings can be considered to be the result of perceived appraisal politics (Poon 2004; Silva 2018; Dhiman 2020), precious few scholars in South Korea posed the questions respecting the determinants and the effect of perceived appraisal politics within the public sector (Ahn & Cho 2015; Kwon 2020). Hence, this doctoral research is to explore the full mediating role of perceived appraisal politics toward …

Why The Innocent Plead Guilty: Examining The Individual Factors Contributing To False Guilty Pleas, Joseph C. Korevec

All-Inclusive List of Electronic Theses and Dissertations

The plea-bargaining system was designed to reduce the time and costs associated with the criminal justice process. Despite the well-meaning intentions behind the process, plea bargaining in practice has resulted in innocent individuals being found guilty and/or imprisoned in the name of procedural expediency. Previous research on plea bargaining has focused primarily on the final plea decision as it relates to economic decision-making and demographic differences between defendants final plea decision. Additional related research on false confessions further attempts to identify extralegal aspects of the process that may influence a persons likelihood to confess. However, no research has attempted to …

Articles

Approximately 1.5 million individuals in Ontario are supplied by private water wells (private groundwater supplies). Unlike municipal supplies, private well water quality remains unregulated, with owners responsible for testing, treating, and maintaining their own water supplies. The COVID-19 global pandemic and associated non-pharmaceutical interventions (NPIs) have impacted many environmental (e.g., surface water and air quality) and human (e.g., healthcare, transportation) systems over the past 15-months (January 2020 to March 2021). To date, the impact of these interventions on private groundwater systems remains largely unknown. Accordingly, the current study aimed to investigate the impact of a province-wide COVID-19 lockdown (late-March 2020) …
