Evaluating The Uptake Of Cotesting And Guideline Adherent Cervical Cancer Screening And Reported Barriers To Guideline Adherence In Academic And Community Practice Settings: A Mixed Methods Study, Shahnaz Khan

Doctor of Philosophy in Translational Health Sciences Dissertations

Background: Clinical practice screening guidelines recommend cotesting, a test that combines DNA Human Papillomavirus (HPV) testing with cervical cytology (also known as Pap testing) every 5-years, as a highly effective and preferred method for cervical cancer prevention among average-risk women aged 30-65. Up to date empirical data on the current uptake of this evidence-based intervention is sparse and does not allow for a complete understanding of the actual use of cotesting at the extended screening interval in practice among patients and providers in different types of practice settings. The 2012 national cervical cancer screening guidelines have further expanded in 2018 …

Assessing The Performing Arts Experience At A Stem-Based Institution, Benjamin Willmott

Theses

Past studies examined the role of performing arts within a STEM-based curriculum, but there has been little research to date on how to fully integrate the two into one unified program at the higher education level. A qualitative study was conducted utilizing a phenomenological approach vis-à-vis four focus groups with students engaged in the Performing Arts Scholarship Program at Rochester Institute of Technology in Rochester, NY. The commitment-trust theory of relationship marketing as well as self-efficacy theory were considered to ground the theoretical framework surrounding the success of the program and the experiences of a sample of 951 Performing Arts …

Methane Emissions From Agricultural Ponds Are Underestimated In National Greenhouse Gas Inventories, Martino E. Malerba, Tertius De Kluyver, Nicholas J. Wright, Lukas Schuster, Peter I. Macreadie

Climate Science Research Articles

Agricultural ponds have some of the highest methane emissions per area among freshwater systems, and these anthropogenic emissions should be included in national greenhouse gas inventories. Here we deliver a continental-scale assessment of methane emissions from agricultural ponds in the United States and Australia. We source maps of agricultural ponds, compile a meta-analysis for their emissions and use published data to correct for temperature and the relative contributions of two methane fluxes (diffusion and ebullition). In the United States, 2.56 million agricultural ponds cover 420.9 kha and emit about 95.8 kt year−1 of methane. In Australia, 1.76 million agricultural ponds …

Violence Risk Assessment Of Sovereign Citizens: An Exploratory Examination Of The Hcr-20 Version 3 And The Trap-18, Lee Vargen, Darin Challacombe

Psychology Faculty Publications

Sovereign Citizens comprise an understudied right-wing extremist movement in the United States who have grown in notoriety in recent years due to several high- profile instances of violence. Despite this, little empirical research has been conducted on Sovereign Citizens, including research on assessing their risk for violence. In this study, we sought to replicate and extend a prior study on Sovereign Citizen violence. Using open-source data, we added several new cases to a pre-existing dataset of violent and non-violent Sovereign Citizen incidents, yielding a total sample of 107 cases. We scored each case using the HCR-20V3 and TRAP-18 risk assessment …

The Economics Of Altruism: An Exploration Of Self And Collective Identity, Catherine Krempasky Dec 2022

The Economics Of Altruism: An Exploration Of Self And Collective Identity, Catherine Krempasky

Honors Projects

There is a belief that students in college often pursue an undergraduate business degree due to the money that comes with the industry. Whereas students pursuing an undergraduate degree in health and human services are believed to be more altruistic, pursuing jobs such as social work, nursing, criminal justice, and other careers that give back to communities despite their often lower-than-average salaries. While this difference in altruism is a common belief, it has rarely been a proven one. Therefore, this study seeks to examine the difference in altruism between students from the Schmidthorst College of Business and the College of …

Educators’ Perspectives Of Student Outcomes, Rikki Jean Cook Dec 2022

Educators’ Perspectives Of Student Outcomes, Rikki Jean Cook

Doctoral Dissertations and Projects

Individual experiences inform psychological adjustment, academic achievement, and trait-specific behaviors during adolescence. The formation of their identity is further dependent upon social and emotional interactions such as those experienced in the social learning environment. During the COVID-19 pandemic, mandated social distancing resulted in the closure of public schools state-wide, forcing students and educators to utilize online educational environments with no preparatory or transitionary periods to allow for adequate adjustment. It is necessary to assess and work toward an understanding of the consequences of this environmental shift, and of the adolescents’ modified social interactions. This descriptive qualitative phenomenological study explores the …
