Theses
Leadership is searching for strategies to assist geo-based communities, cities, large and small towns, and neighborhoods in achieving independent and more decentralized, sustainable environmental practices. By employing a paradigm that encourages peer-to-peer fund raising and rewards participants by actively encouraging more civic engagement, the F3rn platform responds to this demand and helps to build a stronger local circular economy.
The F3rn Defi Platform has made it possible to create a global ecosystem for recycling plastic waste. This ecosystem uses Algorand blockchain technology to provide unbanked people with access to financial services, job opportunities for the extremely poor through financial incentives, …

Plastic pollution has become one of the most pressing environmental issues. Plastic bottles take up to 450 years to decompose in landfill. The other issues caused by plastic waste such as incineration, microplastic and many more are equally terrifying. This project means to create more social awareness. A call for more people to take action and make a difference. Serious overproduction of plastic waste and other Non-Degradable Substance overwhelms the world’s ability to deal with them. Uncontrolled waste production will cause great trouble for us and our children and grandchildren. This project is in three parts. An infographic introduces some …

Prevalence And Risk Factors Of Voice Disorder Symptoms In University Professors: A Pilot Study In Nebraska, Lucia Scheffel, Shari L. Deveney
Journal of Curriculum, Teaching, Learning and Leadership in Education
Although many studies note positive correlations between teaching professionals and voice disorder development, much of what is known is based on reports of elementary and secondary educators, not university professors. Few studies have sought to determine voice disorder prevalence and risk for university professors even though, as professional voice users, they are likely at high risk for voice disorder development. In the present study, 408 university professors responded to questions regarding general health, voice symptomology, and engagement in behaviors associated with voice quality and health. Almost 18% of respondents reported at least 1 consistent voice disorder symptom. Of these, hoarseness …

Learning To Lead: Lessons Taken From The Wisest People We Know, Christine Kenney, Aviva Dorfman, Sapna V. Thwaite
Journal of Curriculum, Teaching, Learning and Leadership in Education
How we engage and interact with young children and what we know about supporting them as they grow into the best versions of themselves is a window into what we also know about adults as they grow into the best leaders they can be. How we support and teach children has informative parallels for what leaders in education might learn and draw upon in their interactions and engagements with the people with whom they work. The goal of this paper is to introduce four principles of early childhood education (emotions and feelings are important, relationships are vital, process orientation is …

Customer complaints in cloud computing can originate from components of the cloud infrastructure platform or from components of third-party software. Further, cloud infrastructure components causing issues can affect customers generally or only customers under certain computing environments or using certain third-party software. Pinpointing the origin of a given customer complaint using targeted testing of components in isolation is computationally infeasible. This disclosure describes techniques that correlate test signals across multiple sources to reliably categorize issues in cloud computing to identify the origin of bad rollouts in a timely and cost-efficient manner. An issue that affects a plurality of workloads can …

Benefit-Cost Analysis Of Green Infrastructure Investments: Application To Small Urban Projects In Hinesville, Ga, Craig Landry, J Scott Pippin, Mohammadreza Zarei
Journal of Ocean and Coastal Economics
Small scale urban green infrastructure projects can provide local ecological services that should be accounted for in project assessment. Benefits assessment can be expensive and time consuming; benefit transfer provides an economical alternative, but the quality of the analysis depends upon available data. A best-case scenario for many applications of benefit transfer is to utilize a conforming meta-analysis. In this paper, we use the meta-analysis of Bockarjova, et al. (2020) to predict ecological benefits of small scale urban green infrastructure investments in Hinesville, GA. In doing so, we implement a censoring procedure on the benefit transfer function to permit analysis …
Potential Risks Inherent In Robotic Process Automation, Colin L. Robinson, David Y. Chan
Potential Risks Inherent In Robotic Process Automation, Colin L. Robinson, David Y. Chan
Journal of Vincentian Social Action
Robotic process automation (RPA) uses automation technologies to perform tasks typically performed by humans. Although such technology has been instrumental in expediting business operations and lowering costs, it has also created several risks that warrant scrutiny. When discussing the drawbacks of automation, many will point to the number of jobs lost to the influx of automation. However, there are technology risks that organizations must consider such as fraud and cybersecurity. Fraudsters may utilize RPA to commit more novel and subtle technological and cyber security fraud. Organizations may implement internal control measures to prevent or mitigate such schemes, segregation of duties, …

Consumer Boycotts In The Time Of War Crisis: An Efficient Citizenship Strategy Or A Temporary Spurt Of Solidarity, Jolanta Zralek
Journal of Vincentian Social Action
By drawing from the theory of consumer citizenship, collective activism, and consumer boycotts, this article strives to understand the nature of the current calls for consumer resistance and the following consumers’ actions that resulted from the Russian invasion of Ukraine. In particular, by utilizing Friedman’s (1991) taxonomy of boycotts, we aimed to identify the character, motives, and tools of ongoing boycotts and thus estimated their actual and probable effectiveness. The main research questions in this paper concern what type of consumer boycotts we currently observe, what the aims and motives are of current boycotting, and whether the noticed boycotting attempts …

Leveraging Next-Gen Technology For Supply Chain Security, Thomas Drape, Reginald P. Parker
Journal of Vincentian Social Action
Global supply chain disruptions continue as part of both a national and global discussion. There is a need for a greater focus on supply chain security as part of this discussion as there is an increasing amount of counterfeit parts and goods within global supply chains. While counterfeit activity is an economic burden to companies and the global market, there are also legitimate concerns on consumer safety, consumer trust and company brand management.
The aim for this paper is to identify the concern and extent of the counterfeit problem and identify the use of next-gen technologies to provide brand protection …

Journal of Vincentian Social Action
To some degree, all social behaviors may be affected by cultural influences. So which national cultures could be positive influences or negative influences on the prevention of a contagion? (Roser et al., 2020). This paper explores regression models for predicting initial Covid-19 cases per capita by country utilizing only Hofstede’s six Cultural Dimensions (Hofstede et al., 2010).
Regression techniques were applied to develop predictive models for initial Covid-19 rates. Two proposed models were found that explained 54% and 60% of the variability in numbers of initial Covid-19 cases by country: The first model included only Individualism, and the second included …

Using two surveys, this article examines employee opinions on working from home during the Covid-19 pandemic. In March 2020 we chronicled the experience and reactions of 478 managers and professionals to the mandate they work at home. We found that a large portion of the respondents felt no significant loss in productivity and no reduction in job satisfaction. Most of the challenges they faced had involved efforts required to establish a facilitating home working environment and disruptions in the ease of collaboration with others. The opportunities overwhelmingly focused on the benefits of having more time to rebalance their work and …

Selective Printheads Servicing Based On Printmode And Drop Detection Analysis, Hp Inc
Defensive Publications Series
Current disclosure will present a method to improve the efficiency and the effectiveness of Drop Detection (DD) functionality and related servicing. This improvement is based on a predictive approach using as reference the printmode nozzle usage strategy. It is very common, in large format printers (middle and low volume) for the printheads (PHs) to have a fixed position in the carriage. Thus, depending on the printmode selected, the printer uses just a small part of the available nozzles of the printhead(s). It is also usual that before printing a plot, the printer performs a drop detection to record which nozzles …

Liberatory School Counseling Practices To Promote Freedom Dreaming For Black Youth, Renae D. Mayes, Natalie E. Edirmanasinghe, Kara Ieva, Ahmad R. W. Washington
College of Education Departmental Research
The American School Counseling Association calls for professional school counselors to support the holistic development and success of all students. However, the field of school counseling is riddled with practices that have harmed and dehumanized Black students. For example, school counselors engage in practices (e.g., social–emotional learning and vocational guidance), which work to reinforce white supremacy and dehumanize Black students. Further, school counselors may also contribute to the ways that the basic and unique needs of Black students are overlooked, leading to the continued systemic adultification of Black students. What is needed is a radical imagination of school counseling, which …

This paper describes a novel synthetic approach for the conversion of zero-valent copper metal into a conductive two-dimensional layered metal–organic framework (MOF) based on 2,3,6,7,10,11-hexahydroxytriphenylene (HHTP) to form Cu3(HHTP)2. This process enables patterning of Cu3(HHTP)2 onto a variety of flexible and porous woven (cotton, silk, nylon, nylon/cotton blend, and polyester) and non-woven (weighing paper and filter paper) substrates with microscale spatial resolution. The method produces conductive textiles with sheet resistances of 0.1–10.1 MΩ/cm2, depending on the substrate, and uniform conformal coatings of MOFs on textile swatches with strong interfacial contact capable of withstanding chemical and physical stresses, such as detergent …

The United State's legal system has failed Native American women for centuries. Without change, they will continue to be failed by the country's legal system until there are hardly any Native American women left for it to fail. The federal government must provide tribal law enforcement with the necessary tools and ability to properly police their reservations in order to help the women suffering from the government's historically ingrained racism. Forming A "Brain Print:" Using Cognitive Neuroscience And Brain Imaging As An Objective Measure Of Criminal Insanity, Christos D. Strubakos
Lincoln Memorial University Law Review Archive
Fiction popularized the concept of criminal insanity. Yet, despite its popularity in the virtual world, it is rarely used in real life. The chief reason for this is that mental disorders that may inhibit a defendant's ability to form reasonable cognitive representations of reality often do not impact his ability to form a key element of a crime: the requisite mental state. Thus, the legal definition of criminal insanity refers to a mental defect that affects a defendant's ability to appreciate her actions at the time of the crime or to understand her actions are wrong. Further complicating matters is …
