Background/aim: Dapagliflozin (DAPA), sodium-glucose cotransporter 2 (SGLT2) inhibitor, is an insulin-independent antidiabetic drug used to control hyperglycaemia by promoting glucose excretion from the kidney. Its adverse effects include orthostatic hypotension, dehydration and urinary tract and genital infections caused by glycosuria. DAPA is subjected to constant additional monitoring, as drugrelated adverse reactions are frequently updated in line with the results of case studies, clinical trials and in vivo studies. Some antidiabetic drugs have shown potential harmful effects on the male reproductive system; however, the effects of DAPA have not been sufficiently studied in this capacity. Aiming to fill this gap in …

Background/aim: Discrimination of consecutive sensory stimuli is imperative for proper sensory perception and behavioral response. We aimed to investigate the emergence of paired somatosensory responses in relation to the interstimulus interval (ISI) change. Materials and methods: Paired stimulus with 35 ms, 50 ms, 80 ms, 140 ms, and 500 ms ISI was applied to the median nerve and evoked responses were recorded from the primary somatosensory cortex in rats. Early and late components of both responses were analyzed in different frequency bands. Results: The amplitudes were comparable for the 1st responses (S1), while the amplitude of the 2nd responses (S2), …

Background/aim: The purpose of this study was to investigate the use of tissues with multiple traumas, scarred pedicles, and medial scarring as a flap. Materials and methods: Forty-eight rats were randomly divided into four equal groups. The modified McFarlane flap was chosen as the flap model. In Group 1 (control), a dorsal skin flap was elevated and then sutured back into original position. In the other groups, a two-phase procedure was used. In Group 2 (pedicle incision), scar tissue was created with a skin incision at the prospective pedicle site of the flap and then sutured to its original site. …

Androgenic Hormones In Crustacean Aquaculture: A Review, Muzaffer Mustafa Harlioğlu, Ardavan Farhadi̇
Turkish Journal of Zoology
Increased demands of the seafood market have led to the rapid growth in crustacean aquaculture production in various parts of the world. Therefore, an expansion in the knowledge of the reproductive biology of crustaceans has become more important. Hormones released from the androgenic gland (AG) in crustaceans are liable for both the separation of primary and secondary sexual features and reproductive behavior. AG removal in male crustaceans causes a transformation of the intersex animals towards the females and a degeneration of spermatids and reproductive organs. AG implantation and injection of AG extracts are common approaches for crustacean masculinization. In this …
