Library Philosophy and Practice (e-journal)
This study tries to examine research on Islamic digital libraries in reputable journals. This study uses descriptive statistical analysis based on 47 publications of selected articles or papers related to Islamic digital libraries which are processed with VOSviewer software. This study finds that research that examines the theme of Islamic digital libraries is still very minimal. The library is a milestone in the history of Islamic civilization and progress in ancient times. This study also found that digital libraries that provide facilities regarding Islamic fields and studies must be developed in relation to the increasingly sophisticated era.

Library Services For Students With Disabilities: Barriers And Way Forward., Tania Farooq, Shazia Manzoor
Library Philosophy and Practice (e-journal)
Libraries form an integral part of any society and provide an impetus for the academic and intellectual growth of the society. They are considered as the repositories of knowledge and should provide information to all without any discrimination on any grounds. Yet, students with disabilities form a vulnerable group who face discrimination and restrictions while accessing the library services. In this paper we have focused on some of the barriers that students with disabilities face while accessing the library services. These have been identified as a) Inaccessible Formats, Materials and Web-Pages b) Inaccessible Libraries c) Lack of Trained Staff in …

Open Access And Education Resources (Oaer) And The Analysis Of University And Library Websites In Pakistan, Nooruddin Merchant Mr., Shahira Ishaq Ms.
Library Philosophy and Practice (e-journal)
The abrupt transition to online teaching and learning during COVID-19 has necessitated the need of providing information sources and textbooks online. The Open Access and Education Resources (OAER) have the potential to fill the gap which may have occurred due to fiscal constraints and budget cuts within Higher Education Institutions in developing countries. This study highlights the importance of OAER movement, its emergence as a strong information resource and its contribution in teaching and learning in higher education. The study also examines the current state and utilization of OAER resources in Pakistani higher education institutions. The authors have used two …

Effect Of Five Different Rest Periods On Tiller Regrowth Of Ryegrass, R. W. Coelho, W. R. Ocumpaugh
IGC Proceedings (1977-2023)
Five rest periods were imposed from April to May on a mixed pasture of two ryegrass (Lolium multiflorum Lam.) varieties and white clover (Trifolium repens L.). The rest period starting dates were: April 4, April 18, May 2, May 16, and May 30, for rest periods 1, 2, 3, 4, and 5, respectively. The total area allocated to the experiment was 1.1 ha, which was divided into 22 pastures. The experimental design used was a split-plot. Rest period was assigned to the main plot, grass to the subplot and legume to the subsubplot. The pastures were “mob-grazed” by …

Aboveground Standing Crop Of An Ungrazed Elyonurus Muticus Grassland Under Annual Burning In The Pantanal, Brazil, E. L. Cardoso, S. M. A. Crispim, C. A. G. Rodrigues
IGC Proceedings (1977-2023)
This study was conducted in the Pantanal of Mato Grosso do Sul state, Brazil, from September 1995 to July 1997. The objective was to evaluate the effect of annual burning on grasses and forbs biomass and standing dead in an ungrazed grassland of Elyonurus muticus. In two areas, one free of burning (control) and another area with annual burning, grasses, forbs aboveground biomass, and standing dead were collected. The experimental design was completely randomized with 10 replications. Burning modified the grasses and forbs biomass dynamics when compared to the area free of burning. After the first burning the grasses …
Contract Grazing Of Young Beef Cattle On Ryegrass In The Southeastern Usa, David I. Bransby
Contract Grazing Of Young Beef Cattle On Ryegrass In The Southeastern Usa, David I. Bransby
IGC Proceedings (1977-2023)
The objective of this study was to evaluate contract grazing (in which the landowner grazes cattle owned by someone else for a specified fee) as an alternative to traditional ownership of the cattle, in order to improve profitability of grazing young beef cattle on annual ryegrass under limited availability of operating capital in the southeastern USA. Production data from a two-year grazing experiment were used as a basis for an economic analysis which assumed market prices for the beef industry in the region. Return/ha over animal and pasture costs was $312.20 for contract grazing, and $477.50 for purchased cattle. However, …
Horses Grazing Management To Promote Distribution Of Lotus Tenuis (Waldst. Et Kit) In A Temperate Grassland, O. E. Ansín
Horses Grazing Management To Promote Distribution Of Lotus Tenuis (Waldst. Et Kit) In A Temperate Grassland, O. E. Ansín
IGC Proceedings (1977-2023)
In a temperate grassland of the Argentine Pampa, the birdsfoot trefoil (Lotus tenuis Waldst. et Kit) distribution was analyzed as a consequence of the grazing method used. In a plot of 40 ha occupied by native grassland an area of 16 ha was implanted with reed canary grass (Phalaris aquatica L.) and L. tenuis. This area was divided into two parts that contained the same pasture and native grassland surfaces, being grazed by horses. One, under continuous grazing and another one, under a controlled grazing. In the continuous grazing the whole year the animals had permanently access …

Water Utility Services: Understanding The Tension Between Viability And Affordability, Daniel Van Abs
Water Utility Services: Understanding The Tension Between Viability And Affordability, Daniel Van Abs
Sustainability Seminar Series
Nationally, the cost of drinking water and sewer utility services has been increasing faster than the consumer price index (inflation) since 1980, propelled by more stringent environmental standards, service area expansion, and repairs for aging infrastructure. These pressures are not abating, and in many ways are increasing. The result is that utilities need more revenue, but an increasing number of households face utility costs that are unaffordable. Shutting off these customers is counterproductive for those low-income households (somewhat like a debtors prison, where you suffer for an inability to pay), society at large, and even the utilities (which face public …

Digitizing The Utah Code Annotated, Valeri Craigle
Sandbox Series
When Utah’s three law libraries closed their doors in March 2020 due to the Coronavirus pandemic, legal practitioners, researchers, and self-represented litigants lost access to the superseded Utah Code Annotated (UCA), which existed only in print form at these three libraries. Access to the UCA was restored in early 2021 through an LSTA grant-funded project that digitized UCA volumes and pocket parts from 1943-1995 and disseminated these materials via an open access Digital Commons collection.

Journal of Applied Research on Children: Informing Policy for Children at Risk
Background: While literature on the overall health burden of high temperature exposures on children continues to grow, little is known about whether children with chronic diseases are particularly vulnerable to the adverse health impacts of extreme heat.
Methods: We used New York Statewide Planning and Research Cooperative System (SPARCS) data on children aged 0-18 years admitted to emergency department and hospitals during the warm months (May-September) from 2005 to 2011. We identified children with specific chronic diseases or conditions that plausibly enhance susceptibility to heat (i.e., asthma, obesity, cerebral palsy, cystic fibrosis, sickle cell disease, sickle cell trait, and mental …

A New Guide To Sources Of Spanish Florida History, D. Lorne Mcwatters
Florida Historical Quarterly
Research into Spanish Borderlands history received major impetus from a recent National Endowment for the Humanities grant to the P. K. Yonge Library of Florida History, University of Florida, Gainesville. In August 1977, the Endowment awarded $127,000 to the Yonge Library to initiate a three-year project to prepare a guide to the Florida Borderlands collection. The Spanish Florida Borderlands Project represents the first concerted effort to organize and make these materials accessible.
Seminole Folktales, Hedvig Tetens Evans
Seminole Folktales, Hedvig Tetens Evans
Florida Historical Quarterly
In Florida in the early 1950s when these stories were gathered, folktales were still being kept alive among some of the oldest Seminole Indians. All of the following tales were collected at the Brighton Reservation which is located in the center of the state northwest of Lake Okeechobee. It is one of three federal Indian reservations in Florida. The Seminole words that are used are in the Muskogee (Cow Creek) dialect. This is different from the Hitchiti dialect used by the Miccosukees who live on the Tamiami Trail west of Miami.
Torment Of Pestilence: Yellow Fever Epidemics In Pensacola, George F. Pearce
Torment Of Pestilence: Yellow Fever Epidemics In Pensacola, George F. Pearce
Florida Historical Quarterly
For more than a century, yellow fever epidemics intermittently swept over Pensacola, Florida, producing a high mortality, disrupting its economic and social life, dividing community leaders and medical authorities over courses of action in combatting them, causing untold numbers to flee, some permanently, and keeping those who remained in a state of demoralizing terror. The approach of summer each year invariably brought with it the fear of a repetition of the dreadful experience. This atmosphere of apprehension and utter helplessness was nourished by ignorance about the origin, transmission, and prevention of the disease. It was not until 1900 that medical …

Colored Town: Miami's Black Community, 1896-1930, Paul S. George
Florida Historical Quarterly
At the time of Miami’s incorporation in 1896, the fortunes of black Americans had declined to their lowest level since the Civil War. The heady illusions and notable accomplishments of the freedmen during Reconstruction had succumbed to the harsh realities of economic dependency and the restoration of white Democratic rule in the South. Increasingly, blacks found themselves scapegoats for political and economic tensions and targets of virulent new doctrines of racial inferiority, resulting in widespread disfranchisement, segregation (Jim Crow) legislation, and increasing white intimidation and violence in Florida and elsewhere in the South. The problems worsened in the early decades …
