An Analysis Of Two Medieval Conducti In The Roman De Fauvel, Christina Lopez, Nathan Wylie
An Analysis Of Two Medieval Conducti In The Roman De Fauvel, Christina Lopez, Nathan Wylie
2021 Festschrift: The Interpolated Roman de Fauvel in Context
The Roman de Fauvel has great importance to literary history and music history. The musical interpolations within BN fr.146 further the poetic narrative, while simultaneously conceiving a revolutionary music style, the Ars nova. In this study, we analyze two different conducti, to see how the genre developed, what role it played in BN fr.146, and how the interpolated conducti compared with the liturgical conducti of the era. When analyzing a conductus, we considered four open-ended guiding questions: What is it? What is it about? What are some noteworthy elements? Why is it important?
Life And Health Concerns Of A European Monastic Scribe During The 14th Century, Jared Reiling, Christopher O'Neill, Nick Curatolo
Life And Health Concerns Of A European Monastic Scribe During The 14th Century, Jared Reiling, Christopher O'Neill, Nick Curatolo
2021 Festschrift: The Interpolated Roman de Fauvel in Context
Writing in a quiet, candle-lit room may sound hygge to some, but monks during the 14th century would describe their work on the scriptorium as cold, depressing, tedious, mundane, and exhausting. The copying of all texts, including biblical and musical, was done by hand with monks working around the clock copying, illuminating manuscripts, and binding books. With the regimented schedule of monastic life, the Church worked scribes till exhaustion which created health problems and aggravated underlying conditions. Though cataracts were a common problem, commoners performed surgery on each other to restore sight, but it only made the situation worse.

Do It By The Book - The Development And Manufacturing Of Books In The Middle Ages, Casey Cromp, Annaliese Croasdale, Emma Pilmer, Lauren Diciaula
2021 Festschrift: The Interpolated Roman de Fauvel in Context
This paper discusses the book-making progress in the Middle Ages that was used across Europe. This process includes the making of paper, the making of the inks used, bookbinding, and how books were printed. Each is an important aspect of how early manuscripts were created. Without these processes, there would not be written documentation of early literature or music. This paper provides a deeper understanding of the work that was implemented into creating early books, and gives insight as to what the book-making process consisted of before the development of present-day technologies.

Non-Parametric Tests For Testing Of Scale Parameters, Manish Goyal, Narinder Kumar
Non-Parametric Tests For Testing Of Scale Parameters, Manish Goyal, Narinder Kumar
Journal of Modern Applied Statistical Methods
One of the fundamental problems in testing of equality of populations is of testing the equality of scale parameters. The subsequent usages for scale are dispersion, spread and variability. In this paper, we proposed non-parametric tests based on U-Statistics for the testing of equality of scale parameters. The null distribution of proposed tests is developed and its Pitman efficiency is worked out to compare proposed tests with respect to some existing tests. Simulation study is carried out to compute the asymptotic power of proposed tests. An illustrative example is also provided.

International Maritime Lecturers' Association (IMLA) 2021 Joint Conference With IMEC32, ICERS15 and INSLC21
The main problem of working in multilingual crew onboard ships is that it is a double-edged sword. While it can boost the number of ideas achieved due to various perspectives coming together to solve a problem, it can also lead to higher levels of conflict other than what may be in conventional crews. If crew members are unable to set aside their differences and communicate effectively, that generates mutual understanding, the solution of bringing together all the most excellent minds in the world will not have the ability to solve that problem. When seafarers with a single cultural perspective on …

Optimum Implementation Of Compound Compression Of A Computer Screen For Real-Time Transmission In Low Network Bandwidth Environments, Conor Paxton
Masters
Remote working is becoming increasingly more prevalent in recent times. A large part of remote working involves sharing computer screens between servers and clients. The image content that is presented when sharing computer screens consists of both natural camera captured image data as well as computer generated graphics and text. The attributes of natural camera captured image data differ greatly to the attributes of computer generated image data. An image containing a mixture of both natural camera captured image and computer generated image data is known as a compound image. The research presented in this thesis focuses on the challenge …

The Principal Erdős–Gallai Differences Of A Degree Sequence, Michael D. Barrus
The Principal Erdős–Gallai Differences Of A Degree Sequence, Michael D. Barrus
Mathematics Faculty Publications
The Erdős–Gallai criteria for recognizing degree sequences of simple graphs involve a system of inequalities. Given a fixed degree sequence, we consider the list of differences of the two sides of these inequalities. These differences have appeared in varying contexts, including characterizations of the split and threshold graphs, and we survey their uses here. Then, enlarging upon properties of these graph families, we show that both the last term and the maximum term of the principal Erdős–Gallai differences of a degree sequence are preserved under graph complementation and are monotonic under the majorization order and Rao's order on degree sequences.
Ketone Body Metabolism In The Ischemic Heart, Stephen C. Kolwicz Jr.
Ketone Body Metabolism In The Ischemic Heart, Stephen C. Kolwicz Jr.
Health Sciences Faculty Publications
Ketone bodies have been identified as an important, alternative fuel source in heart failure. In addition, the use of ketone bodies as a fuel source has been suggested to be a potential ergogenic aid for endurance exercise performance. These findings have certainly renewed interest in the use of ketogenic diets and exogenous supplementation in an effort to improve overall health and disease. However, given the prevalence of ischemic heart disease and myocardial infarctions, these strategies may not be ideal for individuals with coronary artery disease. Although research studies have clearly defined changes in fatty acid and glucose metabolism during ischemia …
