Berdasarkan kurva kalibrasi, diperoleh …

As every jurist knows, there is a vast body of law about Christmas. For instance, every municipal bureaucrat knows that it’s quite alright to display the Holy Child en crèche so long as He’s adequately trivialized by “Santa’s sleigh; a live 40–foot Christmas tree strung with lights; statues of carolers in old-fashioned dress; candy-striped poles; a ‘talking’ wishing well; a large banner proclaiming ‘SEASONS GREETINGS’; a miniature ‘village’ with several houses and a church; and various ‘cut-out’ figures, including those of a clown, a dancing elephant, a robot, and a teddy bear.” There are cases about dangerous Christmas ornaments, whether …
Current Progress And Future Directions For Theory And Research On Savoring, Fred Bryant
Current Progress And Future Directions For Theory And Research On Savoring, Fred Bryant
Psychology: Faculty Publications and Other Works
As research on savoring has increased dramatically since publication of the book Savoring: A New Model of Positive Experience (Bryant and Veroff, 2007), savoring has gradually become a core concept in positive psychology. I begin by reviewing the evolution of this concept, the development of instruments for assessing savoring ability and savoring strategies, and the wide range of applications of savoring in the psychosocial and health sciences. I then consider important directions for future theory and research. To advance our understanding of how naturalistic savoring unfolds over time, future work should integrate the perceptual judgments involved in not only the …

Effects Of Tendon Viscoelasticity On The Distribution Of Forces Across Sutures In A Model Tendon-To-Bone Repair, Yuxuan Huang
McKelvey School of Engineering Graduate Student Theses & Dissertations
Tears to the rotator cuff often require surgical repair. These repairs often culminate in re-tearing when sutures break through the tendon in the weeks following repair. Numerous studies have been performed to identify suturing strategies that reduce this risk by balancing forces across sutures. However, the structural engineering basis for these approaches is still emerging, and the effects of tendon mechanics on load balancing is still unclear. Specifically, the effects of the viscoelastic nature of tendon on load sharing have not been established. With the aim of providing insight into this problem, this thesis studies how tendon viscoelasticity, tendon stiffness, …

Water Droplet Condensation On Lubricant-Infused Surfaces In A Vacuum Chamber, Wonsang Lee, Jianxing Sun, Patricia Weisensee
Mechanical Engineering and Materials Science Independent Study
The infused lubricant on lubricant infused surfaces (LISs) creates the ideal properties for heat transfer condensation due to its chemically homogenous and atomically flat surface. The purpose of this independent study project was to continue the research on lubricant-infused surfaces to find the optimal oil film thickness for condensation. The optimal oil film thickness is determined by its water transfer rate, with reasonable thermal resistance and high droplet mobility to achieve high heat transfer performance. A lot of time was spent designing, building, and testing the vacuum chamber where this experiment will be conducted. The vacuum chamber will take in …

The quality of young children's peer relationships is important for their development, and it is assumed that parenting and self-regulation skills shape children's behavior when interacting with peers. In this multi-informant-multi-method study, we examined the direct and mediated associations between preschool parenting, children's behavioral self-regulation, and peer aggression and peer relationship problems in elementary school-aged children and extended previous work by examining both positive and negative parenting of both mothers and fathers. In a large community sample (n = 698) of parents and children who were between 1 and 6 years old, we obtained information on observed maternal sensitivity, mother- …

Library Philosophy and Practice (e-journal)
The history of readers’ advisory services is both valuable and misinterpreted. Examining the practices and motivations in the implementation of readers’ advisory in the 1920s-1930s points to marked differences and subtle similarities to the readers’ advisory services we know today. Delving into historically and culturally significant events during this time period points to education as the main priority and purpose of RA.

Covid-19: Coping Strategies Predicting Mental Health Outcomes, Crystal Lim
Honors Theses
The rates of COVID-19 cases and deaths caused are increasing. Studies have been reporting the inclining rate of psychological distress during the pandemic, which calls for attention to how the pandemic has impacted mental health outcomes. Coping strategies are helpful when it comes to predicting mental health outcomes. However, limited studies looked at coping strategies predicting mental health outcomes longitudinally. The study hypothesized that psychological distress would decrease during mid-pandemic and adaptive coping strategies such as active coping, acceptance, positive reframing, instrumental support, emotional support, religion, humor, and planning decrease psychological distress while maladaptive included denial and venting, behavioral disengagements, …

Somatic mutations are rare in pediatric acute myeloid leukemia (pAML), indicating that alternate strategies are needed to identify targetable dependencies. We performed the first enhancer mapping of pAML in 22 patient samples. Generally, pAML samples were distinct from adult AML samples, and MLL (KMT2A)-rearranged samples were also distinct from non-KMT2A-rearranged samples. Focusing specifically on superenhancers (SEs), we identified SEs associated with many known leukemia regulators. The retinoic acid receptor alpha (RARA) gene was differentially regulated in our cohort, and a RARA-associated SE was detected in 64% of the study cohort across all cytogenetic and molecular subtypes tested. RARA SE+ pAML …

Inhibition Of Nadph Oxidase Blocks Netosis And Reduces Thrombosis In Heparin-Induced Thrombocytopenia, Halina H L Leung, Jose Perdomo, Zohra Ahmadi, Feng Yan, Steven E. Mckenzie, Beng H Chong
Department of Medicine Faculty Papers
Heparin-induced thrombocytopenia (HIT) is associated with severe and potentially lethal thrombotic complications. NETosis was recently shown to be an important driver of thrombosis in HIT. We investigated the role of reactive oxygen species (ROS) and nicotinamide adenine dinucleotide phosphate (NADPH) oxidase 2 (NOX2) and their contributions to thrombus development in HIT. We showed that neutrophil activation by HIT immune complexes induced ROS-dependent NETosis. Analysis of thrombi formed in a microfluidics system showed ROS production in both platelets and neutrophils, and abundant neutrophil extracellular traps (NETs) and ROS distributed throughout the clot. Neutrophil-targeted ROS inhibition was sufficient to block HIT-induced NETosis …
Biodiversity And Fire In Shortgrass Steppe, Paulette L. Ford
Biodiversity And Fire In Shortgrass Steppe, Paulette L. Ford
IGC Proceedings (1977-2023)
Effects of fire at two levels of intensity on beetle diversity in shortgrass steppe were examined. The experimental design was completely randomized, with 3 treatments and 4 replicates per treatment. Treatments were two levels of fire 1) dormant-season fire (relatively hot), and 2) growing-season fire (relatively cool), and unburned plots. The response variables were arthropod species richness and abundance. The intermediate disturbance hypothesis predicts that maximum species richness occurs at intermediate levels of disturbance. Data obtained in this study support that prediction. Species richness was higher on plots of intermediate fire intensity than the more intensely burned plots, and almost …
Mechanization: Planning And Selection Of Equipment, C. A. Rotz
Mechanization: Planning And Selection Of Equipment, C. A. Rotz
IGC Proceedings (1977-2023)
The planning and selection of equipment for harvest and handling of forage crops can greatly impact the performance and profitability of a farm. The type and size of equipment used affects the harvested yield and nutritive value of the forage crop as well as production costs. Through interactions with other parts of the farm, these effects can impact market value of the forage, animal intake and performance, delays in other farm operations, other production costs, and ultimately farm profit. Standard procedures and relationships have been developed for determining the most appropriate equipment for a given production system. Because of the …

Conserved Forage (Silage And Hay): Progress And Priorities, R. E. Muck, K. J. Shinners
IGC Proceedings (1977-2023)
Forage conservation permits a better supply of quality feed when forage production is low. While haymaking and ensiling have been practiced for generations, research is still needed to 1) understand the processes affecting quality during harvesting and storage and 2) develop practical means to minimize losses and enhance quality.
Several trends in harvesting forages for silage are notable. Kernel processing of maize, once confined to Europe, has become popular in North America. Self-propelled forage harvesters have a larger share of the market due to more contract harvesting and larger farms. Larger harvesters, rakes and mergers help improve productivity and forage …
