The Effect Of Rangeland Quality On The Mohair Quality Of Angora Goats Fed On The Natural Rangelands, Betül Zehra Sariçi̇çek
Turkish Journal of Veterinary & Animal Sciences
The aim of this study is to determine the effect of the rangeland quality of Ankara goats fed on some natural rangeland in Ankara on the mohair quality. The research was carried out in 3 different quality natural rangelands in Ankara province. Crude protein, ether extract, Ca, Fe, N, energy contents and digestibility, in vitro gas production, and relative feed values of good quality rangeland plants were the highest compared to other rangelands, but the crude fiber, acid detergent fiber, and neutral detergent fiber were the lowest (p < 0.05). In the study were used a total of 120 animals (20 males, 20 females in each farm) from 3 farms where Angora goats are raised in the region of rangelands. The mohair quality was determined in mohair samples taken from 6 month old, 1.5, and 2.5-yearold animals. Rangeland quality significantly affected mohair lengths, fineness, elasticity, tenacity, and clean mohair yield, in males and females (p < 0.05). The highest values were obtained from goats fed good quality rangeland (p < 0.05). The effect of age on these features was also important. The mohair quality (length, elasticity, tenacity) increased with increasing age (p < 0.05). The effect of the rangeland quality on the nozzle number was not significant, but the effect of age was significant. and, the nozzles number increased with increasing age. The nozzle depth was affected by the rangeland quality and age. The nozzle depth has increased due to the increase in rangeland quality and age. While the mohair Ca, Mg, S, Fe, and N content of male and female goats were higher in goats fed on good quality rangeland, these were lower in goats fed low-quality rangeland (p < 0.05). While mohair Na content positively affected rangeland quality in females (p < 0.01), was insignificant in males.

Cheyletiellosis is a highly contagious infestation caused by Cheyletiella mites, particularly in pets. This clinical case report was performed to give information about canine cheyletiellosis in 45-days-old Poodle puppies showing mainly pruritus and dandruff symptoms. Mites were detected in stereo microscopic examination of hair and skin scraping samples collected from dogs brought to a private veterinary clinic in Kocaeli province of Turkey. All collected materials were preserved in eppendorf tubes containing 70% ethanol and sent to the parasitology laboratory for species identification. Mite preparations for microscopic examination were prepared, and the species causing infestations in puppies was identified as Cheyletiella …

Effect Of Biopreservative Cultures On The Shelf Life Of Modified Atmosphere Packaged Chicken Cocktail Sausage, Sevgi̇ Ataş, Gökhan Kürşad İnci̇li̇, Hali̇l Durmuşoğlu, Mehmet Çalicioğlu
Turkish Journal of Veterinary & Animal Sciences
The present study was undertaken to extend the shelf life of modified atmosphere packaged chicken cocktail sausages by using biopreservative cultures (Lactobacillus sakei (B-2) and Lactobacillus curvatus (B-LC-48)). According to the results, cocktail sausages in control group stored either at 4 °C or 10 °C were spoiled as of day 28 due to a decrease in average flavor score and general acceptance score and increases in mesophilic and psychrotrophic colony counts (p < 0.05). In bioprotective cultures treated groups, no spoilage was detected throughout the 60-day storage at 4 °C, whereas those products stored at 10 °C spoiled as of day 42. Results of this study indicated that the bioprotective cultures tested were able to control the spoilage bacteria by establishing bacterial predominance starting from the first day of the shelf life (p < 0.05). It was concluded that these cultures can be useful in chicken cocktail sausages production, especially when a proper cold chain cannot be guaranteed during transportation and at retail.

The animal fibres such as mohair, cashmere and cashgora have a complex structure and affected by genetic variation of keratin associated protein genes as KAP 1.1 (Keratin Associated Protein 1.1, formerly known as B2A), KAP1.3 (Keratin Associated Protein 1.3, formerly known as B2C) and K33 (Keratin Intermediate Filaments Type I, formerly known as KRT1.2). Keratin-associated proteins play a significant role in identifying structural and mechanical properties of the hair and wool fibres. This study was conducted to detect genetic variation at the KAP1.1, KAP1.3 and K33 genes in indigenous Turkish goat populations using DNA sequencing method. The DNA of 100 …
