Effect Of Eurycoma Longifolia And Eccentric Exercise On Quadriceps Strength In Elite Rugby Player, Ahmad Zawawi Zakaria Jan 2021

Effect Of Eurycoma Longifolia And Eccentric Exercise On Quadriceps Strength In Elite Rugby Player, Ahmad Zawawi Zakaria

Student Works (2020-2029)

Optimizing performance by resistance training over a limited amount of time was imperative in a training year plan. Superior effect of eccentric training has been documented but less known its influence on elite athletes which incorporated submaximal and supramaximal intensity eccentric that was essential for muscle strength and hypertrophy. Correspondingly, Eurycoma longifolia Jack (ElJ) supplementation has been shown to stimulate the production of the non-prohibited androgenic hormones, which was important for athletic performance in terms of muscular strength and size. However, investigation was not sufficiently vigorous on such effect of a supplement in elite athletes. Therefore, the major aim of …

Political Systems And Revolution: The Cases Of Egypt And Tunisia, Ibrahim S.I Rabaia Jan 2021

Political Systems And Revolution: The Cases Of Egypt And Tunisia, Ibrahim S.I Rabaia

Student Works (2020-2029)

Revolution in MENA is a long-term process needing a long time to correct the structural failures of the existing political systems. In other words, revolutions were created to change the status quo, pave the way to a breakthrough in the political system, and open the political sphere by introducing a more inclusive and dynamic process for entering these systems. The mismatch between inputs and outcomes in the Egyptian and Tunisian political systems produced failures in dealing with the political, economic, and social demands of the revolutionary powers in both countries. Such a failure increased the chances of success for the …

"We Can't Breathe." Like George Floyd, Black Families In New York City Have A Knee On Their Necks, Shanée Brown Jan 2021

"We Can't Breathe." Like George Floyd, Black Families In New York City Have A Knee On Their Necks, Shanée Brown

Scholarly Works

While watching the murder of George Floyd, one thing should have remained imprinted in everyone's mind: he was a father. This racist officer permanently separated a father from his children when he recklessly, yet intentionally placed his knee on Mr. Floyd's neck for eight minutes and forty-six seconds. When the Administration for Children's Services ("ACS") removes Black children from their homes for unjust reasons, it places its knee on the necks of Black families.

Breathing as a family involves parents and children inhaling and exhaling the love shown to each other. To separate a family means to obstruct that family's …

Climate Change Is A Drag: A Mini-Collection Exploring The Intersection Of Drag And Sustainability, Joelle Tangen

Honors Program: Senior Projects (Public)

The goal for the outcome of this project is to look at the market where drag and sustainability intersect by focusing on a specific member of this subset, Pattie Gonia, and analyzing their current work to inform a mini-collection of three garments for the same target market. First, observational research was done on Pattie Gonia’s previous work to identify the prevailing themes and styles of the garments. Three central ideas were then chosen to inform the three garments, including a look based on a common piece of outdoor clothing or gear, a look based on an environmental problem, and a …

Esperanza Rising And Identity: Exploring Literature And Self In Upper Elementary School, Emma Fuller Jan 2021

Esperanza Rising And Identity: Exploring Literature And Self In Upper Elementary School, Emma Fuller

Honors Program: Senior Projects (Public)

Upper elementary students benefit from exposure to windows and mirrors in literature. The term “mirrors” refers to when students can relate to characters and situations, and see their own lives valued in an academic context. Mirrors are important for representation in schools because it allows students to reflect on their own learning. “Windows” allow students to see a perspective into other people’s lives. They are important because they encourage reflection on different ideas and empathy among students. One of many literary works with strong “windows” and “mirrors” is Pam Munoz Ryan’s Esperanza Rising. In this Senior Project, I focused on …

Diagnosis Of Early Delayed Graft Function (Dgf) Using Timp-2*Igfpb-7 Product In Transplant Recipients: Preliminary Results, Russell Leong, Cassandra Rodd, Kellyann M. Gomes, Solomiia Savedchuk, Paul S. Kellerman

Conference Presentation Abstracts

Background: DGF is acute kidney injury (AKI) defined as need for dialysis within one week of renal transplant. AKI is defined by a change in serum creatinine (SCr), however early recognition is limited by delay in creatinine rise. Accurate early biomarkers may lead to prevention or treatment of established AKI. The product of two novel biomarkers of cell cycle arrest, tissue Inhibitor of metalloproteinase-2 (TIMP-2) and insulin-like growth factor binding protein (IGFBP-7) have shown promise in predicting AKI. In prior studies, TIMP-2*IGFPB-7 ≤0.3 had high negative predictive value, and ≥2 high positive predictive value for AKI. Aims - 1) Investigate …

Programmed To Protect And Serve: The Dawn Of Drones And Robots In Law Enforcement, Nanci K. Carr Jan 2021

Programmed To Protect And Serve: The Dawn Of Drones And Robots In Law Enforcement, Nanci K. Carr

Journal of Air Law and Commerce

No longer does the field of law enforcement rely solely on human cognition and capability as drones have become first responders, responding to emergency calls with a drone rather than a human officer. Drone technology can transform police work, just as it has package delivery and military strategy. These drone officers allow for higher law enforcement efficiency, safer communities, and even saved lives. However, they also raise civil liberty concerns given that the drones have the power to track vehicles and people without consent, and they can collect and store video records of everyday life, reducing expectations of privacy. This …

A Primer On Opposing Construction Of Wind Farms Near Public-Use Airports, Alan Armstrong Jan 2021

A Primer On Opposing Construction Of Wind Farms Near Public-Use Airports, Alan Armstrong

Journal of Air Law and Commerce

We are witnessing an explosion in the construction of wind turbine generators, cell phone towers, and television/radio broadcast towers around the United States. The statutes, rules, regulations, and police guidance addressing when and where such structures can be erected near public-use airports are complex and intricate. The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) focuses more on subjective than objective criteria in assessing whether an obstruction to air navigation is a hazard to air navigation.

To the extent the FAA conducts studies to determine whether an obstruction is a hazard, the courts are not uniform in assessing the effects of FAA studies. In …

Immunity Doesn’T Fly: The Case For Federal Responsibility For Torts Committed By Transportation Security Officers, Courtney Rimann Jan 2021

Immunity Doesn’T Fly: The Case For Federal Responsibility For Torts Committed By Transportation Security Officers, Courtney Rimann

Journal of Air Law and Commerce

Transportation Security Officers (TSOs) are the Transportation Security Administration’s first line of defense against terrorism in U.S. airways. The American flying public puts their safety, and their luggage, in the hands of these officers, who execute searches that range from metal detectors to physical pat-downs. Since the federal government has mandated searches and screening for airport security, passengers should be able to seek recovery from the federal government where a TSO commits certain intentional torts in the course of duty. Currently, only the Courts of Appeals for the Third Circuit and Eighth Circuit have cleared the runway for such recovery …

"The" Rule: Modernizing The Potent, But Overlooked, Rule Of Witness Sequestration, Daniel J. Capra, Liesa L. Richter

Faculty Articles

Starting with its illustration in the Apocrypha and continuing into the modern day both in courtrooms and in ubiquitous criminal procedurals, one evidence rule has proven so powerful that it has become known as "THE" Rule of Evidence. The rule of witness sequestrationdemands that multiple witnesses to the same events be examined separately from one another to prevent them from, consciously or subconsciously, tailoring their testimony to ensure that it remains consistent. Witness sequestration is conceptually simplistic and famously mighty. Yet, this bedrock protection against inaccurate trial testimony is imperiled by conflicting interpretations of Federal Rule of Evidence 615, the …

Successful drilling operations are dependent on the properties of the drilling fluid used to drill wells. Barite is used as a weighting agent during the preparation of drilling fluid. Over the years, oil and gas industry in Nigeria has been depending mainly on imported barite for drilling operations, whereas the country has huge deposits of barite. There is the need to assess the properties of the locally sourced barite for their suitability in drilling fluid formulation. This study presents the local processing methods of barite and examines the crude and on-the-site processed barite’s physio-chemical properties. These parameters were compared with …

Performance Analysis Of Iot-Based Healthcare Heterogeneous Delay-Sensitive Multi-Server Priority Queuing System, Barbara Kabwiga Asingwire, Alexander Ngenzi, Louis Sibomana, Charles Kabiri

All Rsif Scholars' Publications

Previous studies have considered scheduling schemes for Internet of Things (IoT)-based healthcare systems like First Come First Served (FCFS), and Shortest Job First (SJF). However, these scheduling schemes have limitations that range from large requests starving short requests, process starvation that results in long time to complete if short processes are continuously added, and performing poorly under overloaded conditions. To address the mentioned challenges, this paper proposes an analytical model of a prioritized scheme that provides service differentiation in terms of delay sensitive packets receiving service before delay tolerant packets and also in terms of packet size with the short …

All Rsif Scholars' Publications

Xanthomonas wilt of banana (XW) is a major disease affecting banana throughout East and Central Africa (ECA). Initial control was through complete diseased mat uprooting (CDMU), which had limited adoption due to high labour demands and cost. Further research demonstrated single dis- eased stem removal (SDSR) was an effective, less labour intensive and less costly alternative to CDMU. A comparative assessment of the two con- trol practices was needed to foster uptake by policy makers, especially in countries like Rwanda where SDSR had not been tested or scaled up. To test SDSR in Rwanda, a study was conducted in farmers’ …
