Circus and danced movement induce a slow metamorphosis of humans and organic matter, as performers confront nature, accompany it, dodge it, collide, and merge with it. Nothing here has a beginning or an end, but is part of a continuum.

CAN MAN tells the story of a man tasked with identifying a room full of unlabeled cans without opening them. I explore the challenges of making a film with the production guidelines set forth during the COVID-19 pandemic and how it impacted the final film. I also discuss all that I've learned in the past five years I spent studying in the UNO Film and Theatre Department.

Although the field of museology has discussed many concepts found in other positive disciplines, such as flow in positive psychology, the field itself has not yet developed a purposeful framework for positive museology. A long history of research in museum studies and on museal endeavors reveals aspects of a positive approach already exist but have yet to be woven together into a synthetic whole. In 2020-2021, during the COVID-19 pandemic, museums themselves showed their positive strengths and virtues through documents such as social media and field-wide communication, revealing their capacity for a positive approach. Danielle Roberts’ work explores personal narratives. The spaces she paints radiate, simultaneously dark and luminescent. Resembling the kind of archetypes of place used in film her cinematic compositions invite the viewer into the frame. Her figures capture feelings of alienation illuminated by the unnatural existential glow of constructed contemporary light.

In this dissertation on rethinking the rhetorical dimensions of public refusals, I attempt to enhance the heuristic value of compositionist John Schilb’s neglected but promising concept of rhetorical refusal with (1) an amplification of his higher principle criterion using rhetorical studies of decorum and (2) the scholarly deployment of strategic silence, journalism ethics, controversy and melodrama, irony, and prophetic rhetoric. Background: Goal-directed fluid therapy (GDFT) reduces complications in patients undergoing major general surgery. There are no reports of cardiac output evaluation being used to optimise the fluid administration for patients with acute pancreatitis (AP) in a general surgery ward. Method: 50 patients with AP were randomised to either ward-based GDFT (n=25) with intravenous (IV) fluids administered based on stroke volume optimisation protocol or standard care (SC) (n=25), but with blinded cardiac output evaluation, for 48-hours following hospital admission. Primary outcome was feasibility. Results: 50 of 116 eligible patients (43.1%) were recruited over 20 months demonstrating feasibility. 36 (72%) completed the …

Conventionally, tracheostomy includes surgical creation of tracheo-cutaneous communication. It is done either to bypass the upper airway obstruction or to facilitate optimal mechanical ventilation and early weaning off the ventilator support in neurologically unstable patients. For many years now, percutaneous tracheostomy has been proposed as an alternative to open surgical tracheostomy in ventilator-dependent patients. This review briefly narrates the principles and procedure of percutaneous tracheostomy. In addition, the article sheds light on a few critical problems that one could encounter during the process and discusses countermeasures to overcome those difficulties. In this dissertation, I focus on popular ludic and cultural practices that shaped the urban spaces of Uruguay and Argentina at the end of the nineteenth century and the beginning of the twentieth. I argue that by inhabiting the public sphere in close dialogue with modernization and urbanization, popular entertainment became a main protagonist within everyday life. Cultural practices such as carnival, theater, soccer, radio, and cinema, presented intersections between each other. These intersections generated what I term the ludic urban sphere, to underscore not just the overwhelming presence of play and entertainment as central elements in the urban landscape, …

While the greater Miami area today is the nexus of Florida’s continuing motion picture industry, this was not always the case. Historically, Jacksonville, and to a lesser extent Tampa, were the leading film centers of the state prior to 1920. This reflected their early importance as commercial and transportation hubs, but these advantages began to be outweighed as other areas within Florida also began to develop as popular location sites.

The Civil War was more than dramatic sieges, heroic charges, and bloody encounters. There were numerous isolated and little-publicized acts of valor and triumph on both sides. If such affairs did not directly influence the outcome of the war, they hid a special poignance of their own. For Southerners who increasingly learned to endure the painful news of costly mistakes, defeats, and reversals, such individual triumphs were particularly welcome. One example of courage and success occurred on June 2, 1862, in a remote theatre of the conflict: Florida.
