Optimal Tile-Based Dna Self-Assembly Designs For Lattice Graphs And Platonic Solids, Leyda Almodovar, Joanna Ellis-Monaghan, Amanda Harsy, Cory Johnson, Jessica Sorrells
Mathematics Faculty Publications
A design goal in self-assembly of DNA nanostructures is to find minimal sets of branched junction molecules that will self-assemble into targeted structures. This process can be modeled using techniques from graph theory. This paper is a collection of proofs for a set of DNA complexes which can be represented by specific graphs, namely Platonic solids, square lattice graphs, and triangular lattice graphs. This work supplements the results presented in https://arxiv.org/abs/2108.00035

The Political Face Of Antitrust, Spencer Weber Waller
The Political Face Of Antitrust, Spencer Weber Waller
Faculty Publications & Other Works
The last twenty years have brought antitrust back to the fore as a political issue of greater salience. Several booms and busts in the economy have highlighted the issue of corporate power in the economy and the political system. The growing influence and aggressiveness of the European Union and other jurisdictions' competition laws have highlighted the relative retreat in the United States. Political movements in the United States have brought issues of corporate power and its abuse back into the public limelight and with them a greater political salience for antitrust in the election cycle of 2020.
Educational Intervention To Change Knowledge And Attitudes Regarding Sexual Behaviors To Reduce Rates Of Sexually Transmitted Infections Among University Of Kentucky’S Sorority Life Students., Julianna Maita
Theses and Dissertations--Public Health (M.P.H. & Dr.P.H.)
Sexually transmitted infections disproportionally affect young adults. Within this age group, women are at an increased risk for contracting and STI and face more severe long-term adverse consequences than men. College aged individuals are at an increased risk for contracting an STI due to risky sexual behaviors such as unprotected sex with multiple partners. College students involved in Greek Life have been found to engage in risker sexual behaviors than non-Greek life students. These individuals perceive themselves to be at a higher risk for contracting an STI and have an increased number of unprotected sexual encounters under the influence of …

Understanding Resilience Among Individuals With Adverse Childhood Experiences (Aces), Meghan Larson
Understanding Resilience Among Individuals With Adverse Childhood Experiences (Aces), Meghan Larson
Walden Dissertations and Doctoral Studies
Adverse childhood experiences (ACEs), such as abuse, neglect, and dysfunction in a child’s home are considered a public health crisis due to their correlation to health disparities and psychosocial problems in adulthood such as substance use, relationships, education, and maintaining employment. However, some individuals are resilient and demonstrate the ability to adapt and function well despite experiencing adverse events. To better understand resilience when ACEs are present, I conducted a basic qualitative research study to explore the lived experiences of individuals in Tennessee with elevated ACE and resilience scores. A purposeful sample of 12 participants who scored high on ratings …
Barriers To Sex Offender Reintegration, Brittney Wolf
Barriers To Sex Offender Reintegration, Brittney Wolf
Walden Dissertations and Doctoral Studies
Barriers to successful offender reintegration are important to address in treatment approach, and most of the information known about risk to reoffend is created by researchers, treatment providers, and victim experiences. Exploring and learning about the barriers experienced by sex offenders during the reintegration process can provide additional insight into sex offender treatment approaches, reentry processes, community beliefs, and legislation. The purpose of this qualitative study was to identify barriers that sex offenders experience during the reintegration process that may lead them to reoffending. The risk-need-responsivity framework was used to guide the interpretation of identified barriers. The sample consisted of …

Less Is More: Course Redesign And The Development Of An Atmospheric Science Process Skills Assessment, Dawn M. Kopacz, Zachary J. Handlos
International Journal for the Scholarship of Teaching & Learning
General education science courses strive to promote scientific literacy and the development of scientific process skills. However, research shows that many general education courses are still designed to stress content mastery. In this study, the number of topics in five semester-long introductory atmospheric science courses was reduced to increase time for the development of scientific process skills, a critical component of scientific literacy. The Atmospheric and Climate Science Literacy Frameworks and a general science education skills rubric were used to guide the course redesign and development of course activities. Details of the course structure and sample course activities are described. …

Diabetes Management And Self-Perception Of Health Among Adults In The United States, Moses Ajoku
Diabetes Management And Self-Perception Of Health Among Adults In The United States, Moses Ajoku
Walden Dissertations and Doctoral Studies
The burden and complications of diabetes have been a public health concern and societal challenge for decades, and the rate of prevalence is projected to increase in the future. The study aims to examine the association between blood glucose monitoring, glycated hemoglobin test, and self-perceived health status among diabetic adults in the United States. Guided by the chronic care model, the study used data from the 2019 Behavioral Risk Factor Surveillance System to investigate diabetes management practices among diabetic adults in the United States. Quantitative and cross-sectional methods were used to assess the associations between diabetes management practices and self-perceived …
Association Between Food Insecurity And Influenza Outcome In The United States., Sabrina Fiona Pink
Association Between Food Insecurity And Influenza Outcome In The United States., Sabrina Fiona Pink
Walden Dissertations and Doctoral Studies
AbstractThe influenza virus is one of the most commonly occurring respiratory viral infections in the world. The outer capsule of the virus contains 18H proteins and 11N proteins, which allows the virus to reform in over 100 different strands and outperform the vaccine. Despite efforts to improve access to care and reduce vaccine inequities; the Center for Disease Control and Prevention estimates 9-45 million documented influenza-related illnesses, 140,000 to 810,000 hospitalization, and 64,000 deaths yearly. The purpose of this study is to investigate whether food insecurity, access to care and other social determinants of health such as age, race, and …
Invariant Structural Features Of Retrograde Amnesia Affected Memory, Daniel K. Burch
Invariant Structural Features Of Retrograde Amnesia Affected Memory, Daniel K. Burch
Walden Dissertations and Doctoral Studies
Traumatized individuals may use one or several emotional defensive strategies to cope with their experience; one method is via autobiographical amnesia which may influence the efficacy of amnesiac patients’ psychological adjustment during a sensitive period. Little research has addressed the potential of how emotionally invariant structural features may impact the reconsolidation of autobiographical memory, which in turn may support patients to complete successfully psychotherapeutic treatment or intervention. This phenomenological study addressed how lived experiences (i.e., invariant emotional and behavioral conscious states) may play into patients’ transformational memory of some or all of the traumatizing event details. To answer these questions, …
Preauthorizations In Orthopaedic Surgery: An Analysis Of A Single Institution’S Spine Center, Kareem Jamal Kebaish
Preauthorizations In Orthopaedic Surgery: An Analysis Of A Single Institution’S Spine Center, Kareem Jamal Kebaish
Yale Medicine Thesis Digital Library
Introduction
Preauthorizations are frequently required by commercial insurers before patients can undergo magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) of the spine. In addition to the administrative burden, such processes can lead to delays in care. The current study assessed the rates and eventual disposition of preauthorizations required prior to spine MRIs ordered from an academic spine center.
Methods
Patients from a single academic institution’s spine center who were covered by commercial insurance and referred for a spine MRI between January 2013 and December 2019 were included in the analysis. The requirement for preauthorization and eventual disposition of each of these studies was …
