A New Implicit-Explicit Local Differential Method For Boundary Value Problems, Hüseyi̇n Tunç, Murat Sari
A New Implicit-Explicit Local Differential Method For Boundary Value Problems, Hüseyi̇n Tunç, Murat Sari
Turkish Journal of Mathematics
In this study, an effective numerical method based on Taylor expansions is presented for boundary value problems. This method is arbitrary directional and called as implicit-explicit local differential transform method (IELDTM). With the completion of this study, a reliable numerical method is derived by optimizing the required degrees of freedom. It is shown that the order refinement procedure of the IELDTM does not affect the degrees of freedom. A priori error analysis of the current method is constructed and order conditions are presented in a detailed analysis. The theoretical order expectations are verified for nonlinear BVPs. Stability of the IELDTM …
Existence Of Nonnegative Solutions For Discrete Robin Boundary Value Problems With Sign-Changing Weight, Yan Zhu
Turkish Journal of Mathematics
In this paper,~we are concerned with the following discrete problem first $$\left\{ \begin{array}{ll} -\Delta^{2}u(t-1)=\lambda p(t)f(u(t)), &t\in[1,N-1]_{\mathbb{Z}},\\ \Delta u(0)=u(N)=0,\\ \end{array} \right. $$ where $N>2$~is an integer,~$\lambda>0$~is a parameter,~$p:[1,N-1]_{\mathbb{Z}}\rightarrow\mathbb{R}$~is a sign-changing function,~$f:[0,+\infty)\rightarrow[0,+\infty)$~is a continuous and nondecreasing function.~$\Delta u(t)=u(t+1)-u(t)$,~$\Delta^{2}u(t)=\Delta(\Delta u(t))$.~By using the iterative method and Schauder's fixed point theorem,~we will show the existence of nonnegative solutions to the above problem. Furthermore, we obtain the existence of nonnegative solutions for discrete Robin systems with indefinite weights.

On The Spectral And Scattering Properties Of Eigenparameter Dependent Discrete Impulsive Sturm-Liouville Equations, Yelda Aygar Küçükevci̇li̇oğlu, Elgi̇z Bayram, Güher Gülçehre Özbey
Turkish Journal of Mathematics
This work develops scattering and spectral analysis of a discrete impulsive Sturm-Liouville equation with spectral parameter in boundary condition. Giving the Jost solution and scattering solutions of this problem, we find scattering function of the problem. Discussing the properties of scattering function, scattering solutions, and asymptotic behavior of the Jost solution, we find the Green function, resolvent operator, continuous and point spectrum of the problem. Finally, we give an example in which the main results are made explicit.

Soft $\Beta$-Rough Sets And Their Application To Determine Covid-19, Mostafa K. El Bably, Abd El Fattah A. El Atik
Turkish Journal of Mathematics
Soft rough set theory has been presented as a basic mathematical model for decision-making for many real-life data. However, soft rough sets are based on a possible fusion of rough sets and soft sets which were proposed by Feng et al. [20]. The main contribution of the present article is to introduce a modification and a generalization for Feng's approximations, namely, soft $\beta$-rough approximations, and some of their properties will be studied. A comparison between the suggested approximations and the previous one [20] will be discussed. Some examples are prepared to display the validness of these proposals. Finally, we put …

Genetic Diversity Analysis Reveals Weak Population Structure In Invasive Trianthema Portulacastrum L. At Fayoum Depression, Egypt, Faten Ellmouni, Dirk Albach, Mai Sayed Fouad, Marwa Fakhr
Turkish Journal of Botany
Trianthema portulacastrum L. (Aizoaceae) is a common weed associated with cultivated crops. It is an exotic weed that originated in South Africa and is spreading all over the world. Thirty-five accessions were collected from six populations at Fayoum depression (FD), Egypt. Molecular analyses of start codon targeted (SCoT) markers were performed to identify genotypic variation among collected populations. The effectiveness of employing SCoT markers was demonstrated by the high percentage of polymorphisms. These markers revealed high genetic diversity, as well as high levels of genetic differentiation (GST), elevated gene flow (Nm) (0.195 and 2.052, respectively), high variation among a population …

In this study, Lythrum salicaria plant was tested in hydroponic culture to demonstrate its zinc accumulating capacity and tolerance to different zinc levels. Lythrum salicaria seedlings were grown in 10% Hoagland solution containing 0, 5, 10, 20, 30, 40, 50, 75, and 100 mg/L zinc, and 30 mg/L zinc with different pH levels (5, 6, and 7). Following this, the seedlings were harvested after 1st, 2nd, 4th and 7th days. Zinc caused significant decreases in the relative values of the mean root-shoot length and fresh weight of the plant (92 to 75%; 100 to 92%; 64.2 to 41.2%, respectively), and …
Synergism And Antagonism In Plant Acclimation To Abiotic Stress Combinations, Karl-Josef Dietz
Synergism And Antagonism In Plant Acclimation To Abiotic Stress Combinations, Karl-Josef Dietz
Turkish Journal of Botany
Acclimation of plants to their environment involves mechanisms at all molecular levels and only the complete temporal and spatial pattern adequately describes the acclimation state. The diversity of physiological states realized in plants increases by the essentially infinite combinations of abiotic and biotic stresses, considering duration, impact order, and strength. The interference between stressors involves phenomena of synergism, antagonism, and indifference. This review exemplarily sketches principles of interference considering posttranslational modifications, the formation of molecular assemblies in regulosomes, the regulation of gene expression, and the vast number of other posttranscriptional controls e.g., in RNA processing and recruitment to ribosomes. Small …

Physiological, Biochemical, And Metabolic Responses Of Abiotic Plant Stress: Salinity And Drought, Kiarash Jamshidi Goharrizi, Michael R. Hamblin, Soraya Karami, Maryam Nazari
Turkish Journal of Botany
The most important types of abiotic stress that affect agricultural crops throughout the world are drought and salinity. These stresses will continue to worsen as the current climate crisis progresses. Plants have evolved a complex set of mechanisms in order to protect themselves from salt and drought. At the macrobiological level, these include alterations in growth rate, water balance, antioxidant defenses, and photosynthesis. Altered metabolites include proline, carbohydrates, glycine betaine, gamma-aminobutyric acid, and polyamines. It is not surprising, thus, that one of the most important research areas of plant biology is the study of plant responses to abiotic stress and …

The Trade-Off Between Uvb Sensitivity And Tolerance Against Other Stresses In African Ricespecies, Gideon Sadikiel Mmbando, Jun Hidema
Turkish Journal of Botany
Climate change and ozone depletion have caused increased ultraviolet B (UVB; 280-315nm) radiation levels on earth, which has been predicted to cause decreased growth and yield of various crops, including rice, the most important staple food worldwide. UVB radiation sensitivity varies extensively in Asian rice (Oryza sativa L.) and African rice (Oryza glaberrima Steud. and Oryza barthii A. Chev.) cultivars, and the activity of cyclobutane pyrimidine dimer (CPD) photolyase that repairs UVB-induced CPD is an essential factor underlying UVB sensitivity in rice. Unlike Asian varieties, African rice possesses different origins, and it is cultivated in the African continent under environmental …

Australian Journal of Teacher Education
Teachers are responsible for children at school during peak ultraviolet (UV) times of the day. It is paramount that teachers have knowledge and understanding of UV to effectively protect themselves and their students. The aim of this pilot study was to investigate the effect of a short intervention on preservice teachers’ sun protective behaviours, knowledge and perceived skill to teach sun safety. Participants (n =161; median age=20 years) attended a 45-minute preservice teacher sun safety intervention and completed pre- and post-test surveys. Post-intervention, most participants indicated they felt: i) more informed about the dangers of UV and risks of developing …

Sleep In Adolescents Attending Australian Boarding Schools: A Review And Interim Recommendations, Madeline Sprajcer, David Mander, Gabrielle Rigney, Tessa Benveniste
Australian Journal of Teacher Education
Boarding schools, by definition, house students in residence either on campus or close by in residential facilities - where the sleep environment is likely to differ from their home environment. For boarders, being in the boarding environment occurs alongside a convergence of psychosocial and physiological factors likely to impact adolescent sleep. This paper comprises a review of the literature on sleep and boarding students in the Australian context. We also propose recommendations aligned with the scientific evidence base that can be used to promote healthy sleep in Australian boarding school students, focusing on staff training and sleep knowledge, daily routines, …
Secondary Curriculum Literacy And Teacher Word-Knowledge: Further Findings From A Western Australian Ite Cohort Study, Brian R. Moon, Barbara R. Harris, Anne-Maree Hays
Secondary Curriculum Literacy And Teacher Word-Knowledge: Further Findings From A Western Australian Ite Cohort Study, Brian R. Moon, Barbara R. Harris, Anne-Maree Hays
Australian Journal of Teacher Education
The Australian Government, in its Professional Standards for Teachers and Australian Curriculum framework, requires that all secondary teachers actively teach the specific literacy of their learning area. Yet achievement of that goal hinges on teachers having first acquired the pre-requisite literate competencies during their own schooling. There are reasons to doubt that this is the case for some graduate teachers, which means attempts to raise standards in schools are beset by a troubling circularity. Here we illustrate the problem with further findings from a Western Australian ITE Cohort Study (n=393), focussing this time on the word knowledge of secondary teaching …

Developing Preservice Teacher Conceptions Of Effective Teachers Using Classroom Scenarios To Practice Difficult Conversations, Denise Lindstrom, Gwendolyn Jones, Joshua Hertlein, Meredith Thompson
Australian Journal of Teacher Education
Faculty from three different teacher preparation programs implemented classroom scenarios to help preservice teachers practice holding difficult conversations with students. The goal was to enhance critical reflection and discussion around creating culturally responsive classrooms to change preservice teacher conceptions of effective teachers' qualities. Results indicate that preservice teacher conceptions of effective teachers shifted from a focus on personal attributes to teaching skills. This study addresses the need for practice-based teacher education that has advanced in parallel with efforts to find new ways to the practical knowledge needed to be culturally responsive teachers.

The Role Of The Teacher As Assessor: Developing Student Teacher’S Assessment Identity., Audrey Doyle, Marie Conroy Johnson, Enda Donlon, Elaine Mcdonald, Pj Sexton
Australian Journal of Teacher Education
The closure of schools across the globe due to the Covid-19 pandemic had the potential to have a catastrophic impact on a fundamental pillar of initial teacher education: school placement. This paper maps a new “site” of professional practice for “school placement” called “Teacher Online Programme” (TOP) using Xu and Brown’s (2016) conceptual framework of teacher assessment literacy in practice. Its main focus lies in the integration of the assessment baseline knowledge into the programme under the seven elements proposed by the framework. A case study methodology informed the approach taken. Data was collected and analysed in three phases: the …

The Uk’S Project Faraday And Secondary Stem Education, Geoffrey W. Lummis, Julie Boston, Paula Mildenhall, Stephen Winn
Australian Journal of Teacher Education
This ethnographic study reports on the findings from seven English secondary schools that participated in Project Faraday. The project was funded by the Department for Children, Schools and Families to build innovative learning environments to encourage students into upper secondary inquiry-based STEM. Despite the innovative classrooms, the schools emphasised A-Level university entrance science. Technicians prepared for specific science subjects, although teachers acknowledged the value of inquiry-based pedagogies. UK policies prioritising A-Level assessment were found to be impeding inquiry-based STEM, although wealthy schools had the resources to facilitating both A-Level science and inquiry-based STEM through clubs and co-curricular programs. Our data …

Pluteus and Volvopluteus are two closely related genera of Pluteaceae that comprise saprotrophic fungi. Although the genera have been well-studied in Europe and North and South America, the diversity of Pluteus, mainly Pluteus sect. Pluteus, and Volvopluteus in Turkey is poorly known due to insufficient morphological descriptions and a lack of DNA sequence data. In this study, the diversity of Pluteus sect. Pluteus and Volvopluteus in Turkey is evaluated by employing both morphological features and phylogenetic approaches. A general phylogeny of Pluteus sect. Pluteus based on sequences of nuc rDNA internal transcribed spacer (ITS1-5.8S-ITS2 = ITS) region is presented and …

Clustered regularly interspaced short palindromic repeats/CRISPR-associated proteins (CRISPR/Cas) is an acquired immune system found in bacteria and archaea that can specifically silence or degrade a foreign single or double strand nucleic acid to protect it from infection. In recent years, the CRISPR/Cas9 system has rapidly been evolved into a genome editing technology, in which the Cas9 endonuclease can be targeted to specific DNA sequences by guide RNAs (gRNAs) that are easily programmable. Due to simplicity, specificity and high efficiency, CRISPR/Cas9 is gradually replacing other gene editing technologies and has been implemented in basic and applied plant sciences to boost yield, …
