Research On Cgf-Oriented Virtual Human Perceptual Attention Model, Weilong Yang, Xu Kai, Xie Xu, Sun Lin
Journal of System Simulation
Abstract: Perception model is an important research field of CGF behavior modeling. As the input of the reasoning module, the information obtained from the perception model has an important influence on the fidelity of the simulation. The CGF perception model is researched, and the attention mechanism, effective time of attention model is analyzed, compared with the traditional model of perception. By modeling the knowledge base and information feedback, a virtual human perception framework based on attention mechanism is proposed, and the experiment is carried out in the simulation environment.

Overview Of Cgf-Oriented Cognitive Architecture, Xu Kai, Junjie Zeng, Weilong Yang, Qin Long, Quanjun Yin
Journal of System Simulation
Abstract: In order to further formalize and boost standardized behavioral model development of Computer Generated Forces (CGF), the CGF-oriented cognitive architecture is reviewed and the implementation details of one of the CGF cognitive behaviors, i.e. plan recognition, upon standard cognitive architecture are designed. The results show that the well-designed architecture has a strong support for complex behavior modeling. Four specific suggestions, including requirement analysis, design implementation, theoretical principle and cooperation mechanism, for architecture design and complex behavior modeling are provided.

The fibronectin type III (FN3) monobody domain is a promising non-antibody scaffold, which features a less complex architecture than an antibody while maintaining analogous binding loops. We previously developed FN3Con, a hyperstable monobody derivative with diagnostic and therapeutic potential. Prestabilization of the scaffold mitigates the stability–function trade-off commonly associated with evolving a protein domain toward biological activity. Here, we aimed to examine if the FN3Con monobody could take on antibody-like binding to therapeutic targets, while retaining its extreme stability. We targeted the first of the Adnectin derivative of monobodies to reach clinical trials, which was engineered by directed evolution for …

Developing Ocean Negative Carbon Emission Technology To Support National Carbon Neutralization., Nianzhi Jiao
Bulletin of Chinese Academy of Sciences (Chinese Version)
Carbon neutrality is the right means to cope with global warming. The basic approaches to achieve carbon neutralization include reducing CO2 emissions to the atmosphere and increasing carbon sinks or negative emissions (absorption of atmospheric CO2). As a developing country and a big emitter, China should try its best to increase carbon sinks while reducing emissions as much as possible. The ocean is the largest active carbon pool on Earth, with great potentials for carbon negative emission. We have established marine carbon sequestration theory, which has laid solid foundation for negative emission and set up the linkage between science and …

Factors Affecting Outbreaks And Prevention And Control Strategies Of Wildlife Infectious Diseases, Zhibin Zhang
Bulletin of Chinese Academy of Sciences (Chinese Version)
Recently, wildlife infectious diseases have become a more and more serious problem in the world which imposes a big threat to bio-safety and eco-safety of worldwide. Accelerated climate change and human activities are key driving forces in causing more frequent occurrences of wildlife infectious diseases. Climate change could create favorable conditions for large-scale outbreak or invasion of wildlife infectious diseases by altering range shift or habitat of wildlife infectious diseases or their host/vectors. Human disturbance increases interspecific transmission of pathogens across people, wild and domestic animals, as well as their spread velocity facilitated by the modern transportation systems, and then …

Navigating The Blue Economy, Edward Canuel
Navigating The Blue Economy, Edward Canuel
William & Mary Environmental Law and Policy Review
The time has come, the Walrus said,
To talk of many things:
Of shoes—and ships—and sealing-wax—
Of cabbages—and kings—
And why the sea is boiling hot—
And whether pigs have wings.
And like the conversation of the Walrus and Carpenter walking along the “wet as wet could be” sea, the blue economy offers us the opportunity to talk of many things. Part I of this Article analyzes what the blue economy is and its relevance. Governance mechanisms, including ecosystem-based management and marine spatial planning are introduced and reviewed. The section discusses the benefits associated with such mechanisms, including streamlined decision-making, …
Molecular Characterization Of Tick Galectin In Context Of Α-Gal Syndrome, Sumar Beauti
Molecular Characterization Of Tick Galectin In Context Of Α-Gal Syndrome, Sumar Beauti
Mississippi Undergraduate Honors Conference
α-Gal Syndrome (AGS) is a tick-borne delayed hypersensitivity reaction that occurs 3-6 hours after red meat consumption. It is induced by oligosaccharide galactose-α-1,3-galactose (α-gal) found in the Lone Star tick, Amblyomma americanum, and all mammalian-derived foods. α-gal specific IgE (sIgE) antibodies are produced after α-gal transmission from the tick bite and activates after subsequent red meat consumption. Previously, an immune-affinity approach utilized α-Gal antibody to isolate and identify covalently linked tick saliva antigens to α-gal followed by Liquid Chromatography-tandem Mass Spectrometry (LS-MS/MS) analysis. The identified antigen included tick salivary Galectin, a carbohydrate-binding protein involved in many physiological functions such as …

Identifying Receptors For Neuropeptides And Peptide Hormones: Challenges And Recent Progress, Md Shadman Ridwan Abid, Somayeh Mousavi, James W. Checco
Department of Chemistry: Faculty Publications
Intercellular signaling events mediated by neuropeptides and peptide hormones represent important targets for both basic science and drug discovery. For many bioactive peptides, the protein receptors that transmit information across the receiving cell membrane are not known, severely limiting these signaling pathways as potential therapeutic targets. Identifying the receptor(s) for a given peptide of interest is complicated by several factors. Most notably, cell-cell signaling peptides are generated through dynamic biosynthetic pathways, can act on many different families of receptor proteins, and can participate in complex ligand-receptor interactions that extend beyond a simple one-to-one archetype. Here, we discuss recent methodological advances …

Faculty Research 2021
Recent technological advances have revolutionized the study of tissue biology and garnered a greater appreciation for tissue complexity. In order to understand cardiac development, heart tissue homeostasis, and the effects of stress and injury on the cardiovascular system, it is essential to characterize the heart at high cellular resolution. Single-cell profiling provides a more precise definition of tissue composition, cell differentiation trajectories, and intercellular communication, compared to classical bulk approaches. Here, we aim to review how recent single-cell multi-omic studies have changed our understanding of cell dynamics during cardiac development, and in the healthy and diseased adult myocardium.

Zoonotic Diseases: New Directions In Human–Animal Pathology, Robin Bendrey, Debra Martin
Anthropology Faculty Research
Zoonotic diseases—human diseases of animal origin—represent one of the world's greatest health challenges, both today and in the past. Since the Neolithic, zoonotic diseases have been one of the major factors shaping and influencing human adaptation. Archaeology is ideally situated to provide the long view on human–animal–pathogen relationships through combining cultural, environmental and biological datasets, yet long-term studies of linked human and animal records have often been overlooked and undertheorized. The seven papers in this special issue “Zoonotic diseases: New directions in human–animal pathology” cover a range of diseases caused by bacterial, viral, and parasitic pathogens, from case studies drawn …

Protease Oma1 Modulates Mitochondrial Bioenergetics And Ultrastructure Through Dynamic Association With Micos Complex, Martonio Ponte Viana, Roman M. Levytskyy, Ruchika Anand, Andreas S. Reichert, Oleh Khalimonchuk
Department of Biochemistry: Faculty Publications
Remodeling of mitochondrial ultrastructure is a process that is critical for organelle physiology and apoptosis. Although the key players in this process—mitochondrial contact site and cristae junction organizing system (MICOS) and Optic Atrophy 1 (OPA1)—have been characterized, the mechanisms behind its regulation remain incompletely defined. Here, we found that in addition to its role in mitochondrial division, metallopeptidase OMA1 is required for the maintenance of intermembrane connectivity through dynamic association with MICOS. This association is independent of OPA1, mediated via the MICOS subunit MIC60, and is important for stability of MICOS and the intermembrane contacts. The OMA1-MICOS relay is required …

The excessive use and disposal of plastic packaging materials have drawn increasing concerns from the society because of the detrimental effect on environment and ecosystems. As the most widely used fruit packing material, polyethylene (PE) film is not suitable for long-term preservation of some tropical fruits, such as mangos, due to its inferior gas permeability. Cellulose based film can be made from renewable resources and is biodegradable and environmental-friendly, which makes it a promising alternative to PE as a packaging material. In this study, cellulose film synthesized from delignified banana stem fibers via an ionic liquid 1-Allyl-3-methylimidazolium chloride ([AMIm][Cl]) were …

Oxidation Chemistry Of Catechol Utilized In Designing Stimuli-Responsive Adhesives And Antipathogenic Biomaterials, Rattapol Pinnataip, Bruce Lee
Michigan Tech Publications, Part 1
Mussel foot proteins (Mfps) contain a large amount of the catecholic amino acid, DOPA, allowing the marine organism to anchor themselves onto various surfaces in a turbulent and wet environment. Modification of polymers with catechol imparts these materials with a strong, wet adhesive property. The oxidation chemistry and oxidation state of catechol are critical to the design of synthetic adhesives and biomaterials. In this Mini-Review, the effect of catechol oxidation state on adhesion, oxidation-mediated catechol cross-linking, and the generation of reactive oxygen species (ROS) during catechol oxidation are reviewed. Finally, the tuning of catechol oxidation state in designing stimuli-responsive adhesives …
