Buah carica merupakan jenis buah khas tropis namun memiliki kendala dalam produksi benihnya. Benih carica memiliki daya kecambah rendah disebabkan oleh adanya lapisan sarcotesta yang menjadi penghambat dalam proses perkecambahan. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui pengaruh penghilangan lapisan sarcotesta terhadap viabilitas benih carica dan menentukan suhu optimum untuk mematahkan dormansi benih dan mempertahankan viabilitas benih carica. Penelitian ini dilaksanakan menggunakan Rancangan Acak Kelompok yang terdiri daridua faktor, yaitu faktor penghilangan lapisan sarcotesta terdiri atas benih tanpa sarcotesta dan ber-sarcotesta, sertafaktor inkubasi suhu, yang terdiri atas inkubasi 15 ºC, 25 ºC, 35 ºC, dan 45 0C. The availability of water is a limiting resource for many wildlife species in arid and semi- arid environments. Free water is essential for critical life stages for numerous species, including migration, reproduction, survival, and habitat selection. Riparian areas in the desert occur relatively infrequently, but support a disproportionally large percentage of plant and wildlife species found in arid environments. Our study covered two aspects of water use in the west desert of Utah. Spring Regrowth And Steer Performance On Tifton 85 And Coastal Bermudagrass Pastures Following Sod-Seeding With Ryegrass, G. M. Hill, R. N. Gates

Effects of autumn sod-seeded ryegrass (Lolium multiflorum; cv. Passerel; 37.7 kg/ha) in bermudagrass pastures (Cynodon spp.; cv. Coastal and cv. Tifton 85) on grazing steer performance were determined. Ryegrass was sod-seeded in three of six .81 ha pastures of each bermudagrass. Forage height was adjusted to10 cm during spring. Stocking rates were unaffected by ryegrass in Tifton 85 pastures, but they were higher (P < .05) for Tifton 85 than Coastal. Ryegrass increased tester steer average daily gains by 34% (.86 vs .64 kg/day; P < .01), and gain/ha by 26% (387 vs 306 kg/ha; P < .05). Higher stocking rates resulted in 22% more grazing days (515 vs 421 days/ha; P < .01), and 30% higher gain/ha (391 vs 301 kg/ha; P < .05) for Tifton 85 than Coastal pastures. Ryegrass did not affect stocking rates or steer performance on Tifton 85, but it depressed both on Coastal pastures.

Intensive Grazing Systems For Beef Cattle Production, F. P. Fontenot, V. G. Allen, M. A. Cochran, N. B. Frank

The objective of this study was to compare grazing systems that used rotational and continuous stocking for beef cows-calves and stocker cattle grazing fescue (Festuca arundinacea) and clover (Trifolium repens). For each system seven cows/calves and seven stocker steers were used within each of two replicates. The cows and stockers grazed stockpiled forage and were fed hay in winter, and grazed growing forage during spring and summer. Cows in the rotational system gained at a faster rate (P< . 05) from October to April than those in the continuous system. Daily gains of calves were higher (P< . 05) for the continuous system. Rate of gain during the last 28 days was higher (P< . 05) for the stockers in the rotational system. Average hay yields were not different for the two stocking systems, but more (P< . 05) hay was fed to the cattle in the continuous system. The system that used continuous stocking was more easily managed and required less labor and facilities.

This study describes the effectiveness of an early childhood family education (ECFE) program built on a two-generation and strengths-based model to support dual language learners (DLLs) and their families. The researchers investigated the extent to which participation in the ECFE program influenced adult caregivers (n = 15) and the preschool-aged Latinx DLLs (n = 32) who participated, specifically regarding change related to the children’s language and literacy skills and pre-academic skills, families’ perceptions of their home literacy environments, caregivers’ perceptions of their own literacy skills, and caregivers’ actions regarding early literacy at home. Particulate matter was measured inside and outside eight homes within urban areas of Al- Mukalla city, Yemen by Gravimetric analysis using Tuff-Plus 3 Air Sampler. Sources observation and health risk assessment were done using survey. Meteorological parameters and outdoor sources as well as indoor sources of particulate matter were the main producer of indoor particulate matter air pollution, where wind speed and direction showed significant effect on PM10 I/O ratio and positive effect of relative humidity, while negative effect was from temperature. Two hundreds and fifty eight fish of P. affinis samples were randomly collected from Hadhramout coast, Gulf of Aden during period of March 2012 until April 2013. Generally, the best growth performance of P. affinis was occurred from May to September related to available nourishment, upwelled bottom nutrient. The topological characteristics of the mouth cavity of the carnivorous fish Pagellus affinis was studied by using a light microscope. The results revealed that all the teeth of P. affinis are pointed and canine-like, papilliform teeth present on the premaxillae and the anterior regions of the dentaries are associated with seizing, grasping and holding of prey. The morphology and distribution of different taste buds of P. affinis were predominantly localized at the anterior and tongue regions of the mouth cavity. Removal of eriochrome black-T (EB-T) dye from aqueous solutions was performed by adsorption onto Yemeni palmdate stones. The adsorption isotherm was found to follow the Langmuir model. Two simplified kinetic models including pseudo-first order and pseudo-second order equation were selected to follow the adsorption processes. Kinetic studies showed that the adsorption followed pseudo-first order kinetic model. Various thermodynamic parameters such as Δ𝐻 = -3465.3 J/mole and Δ𝑆 = -10.1 J/K/mole. Δ𝐺 was found to be -4495.5, -2195.2, -2235.7 and -45.39 J/mole at 298, 318, 328 and 338 K respectively, the maximum adsorption capacity was equal to 142 mg/g. The results …

A Comprehensive survey study of Red palm weevil (Rhynchophorus ferrugineus) (RPW) was conducted during the year 2017 in seven villages of Seiyun, Shibam and Al-Qateen Districts in Wadi Hadhramout. A 4477 palmswere surveyed of these trees 322 palms (4.27%) were found infested by Red palmweevil. The results showed a level of old infestation between 25 – 34% and a level of new infestation between 31 – 37%. A new sugar sensor based on metal oxide is presented here. The variation on the sensor resistance is studied against different glucose and fructose concentrations (1 - 360 mg/dl). The study is done for three different resistive films (i) pristine palladium oxide (PdOx); (ii) tin oxide (SnO2) and (iii) palladium doped tin oxide (Pd-SnO2). The chemical reactions of glucose and fructose with surface species were studied. This Retrospective study was done during the year 2009 to determine the seroprevalence of hepatitis B virus (HBV), hepatitis C virus (HCV) and human immunodeficiency virus (HIV), among blood donors in Al-Mukalla hospitals blood banks – Hadhramout-Yemen. Data was collected from blood banks, recorded and grouped according to their serology results. A total of 4526 blood donors were registered during the study period. 252 of them (5.3%) were hepatitis B surface antigen (HBsAg) positive, 29 (0.6%) were anti-hepatitis C virus (anti- HCV) positive and 4 (0.09%) were- anti- human immunodeficiency virus(Anti- HIV) positive. A laboratory experiment was conducted in the Department of Biology, Faculty of Education (Saber) – Aden University, to evaluate the effect of Five different concentrations of mannitol solution (i,e., control, 0.5%, 1.0%, 1.5% and 2.0%) on germination and growth of three cultivars of Sorghum bicolor L. i.e., "HAIQ", "BAINI" and "SAIF". The results showed significant differences between the three cultivars for all studied parameters except for the root dry weight mg./seedling. High-throughput, nondestructive, and precise measurement of seeds is critical for the evaluation of seed quality and the improvement of agricultural productions. To this end, we have developed a novel end-to-end platform named HyperSeed to provide hyperspectral information for seeds. As a test case, the hyperspectral images of rice seeds are obtained from a high-performance line-scan image spectrograph covering the spectral range from 600 to 1700 nm. The acquired images are processed via a graphical user interface (GUI)-based open-source software for background removal and seed segmentation. High-throughput, nondestructive, and precise measurement of seeds is critical for the evaluation of seed quality and the improvement of agricultural productions. To this end, we have developed a novel end-to-end platform named HyperSeed to provide hyperspectral information for seeds. As a test case, the hyperspectral images of rice seeds are obtained from a high-performance line-scan image spectrograph covering the spectral range from 600 to 1700 nm. The acquired images are processed via a graphical user interface (GUI)-based open-source software for background removal and seed segmentation. Melanoma is the least common but deadliest type of skin cancer. Melanomagenesis is driven by a series of mutations and epigenetic alterations in oncogenes and tumor suppressor genes that allow melanomas to grow, evolve, and metastasize. Epigenetic alterations can also lead to immune evasion and development of resistance to therapies. Although the standard of care for melanoma patients includes surgery, targeted therapies, and immune checkpoint blockade, other therapeutic approaches like radiation therapy, chemotherapy, and immune cell-based therapies are used for patients with advanced disease or unresponsive to the conventional first-line therapies. Identifying the leading health and lifestyle factors for the risk of incident dementia and Alzheimer's disease has yet to translate to risk reduction. To understand why, we examined the discrepancies between observational and clinical trial evidence for seven modifiable risk factors: type 2 diabetes, dyslipidemia, hypertension, estrogens, inflammation, omega-3 fatty acids, and hyperhomocysteinemia. Sample heterogeneity and paucity of intervention details (dose, timing, formulation) were common themes. Epidemiological evidence is more mature for some interventions (eg, non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs [NSAIDs]) than others. Trial data are promising for anti-hypertensives and B vitamin supplementation. Taken together, these risk factors highlight a future need …

The expansion of urban landscapes has both negative and positive effects on wildlife. Understanding how different species respond to urbanization is key to assessing how urban landscapes influence regional wildlife behavior and ecosystem structure. Gulls are often described as strong urban adapters, but few studies have explored species-specific differences in habitat use. Here, we use GPS tracking in conjunction with stable isotope analysis (SIA) to quantify the habitat use and trophic ecology of great black-backed gulls (Larus marinus) and herring gulls (L. argentatus) in an urbanized area.
