Embracing Online Engagement With Undergraduate Supervisors: Collective Perspectives On The Online Pivot, Roisin Donnelly, Yurgos Politis
Embracing Online Engagement With Undergraduate Supervisors: Collective Perspectives On The Online Pivot, Roisin Donnelly, Yurgos Politis
Journal Articles
The sudden national move to online/remote teaching and learning has presented a unique dual opportunity to explore the strategic value and importance of embracing learning technology toincrease the proportion of the undergraduate (UG) supervision community actively developing their practice. We have delivered a redesigned module as part of an accredited professional development (PD) masters programme, which offers online practices and approaches sought by UG supervisors. This paper proposes an experiential and reflective contribution by educational developers in supporting the PD of UG supervisors. Our aim is to boost institutional informal conversations on UG supervision through formal engagement strategies in the …
Principals' Perceptions Of The Need For Formal Novice Principal Mentorship: A Qualitative Case Study, Kimberly Nicole Quinn
Principals' Perceptions Of The Need For Formal Novice Principal Mentorship: A Qualitative Case Study, Kimberly Nicole Quinn
Electronic Theses and Dissertations Archive
Although 21 states are currently designating a portion of their Every Student Succeeds Act funds specifically for novice principal induction and support, Tennessee is not currently one of these states. This dissertation uses a qualitative case study approach to interview Tennessee principals serving in years four to five, who did not have formal mentorship support during their novice years, to gather their experiences and support needs during this time. The researcher reviews the current literature on novice principal mentorship programs across the country through the lens of Krams Mentoring Model and Suchmans Program Theory before connecting the literature with the …

Theses: Doctorates and Masters
Beholding a comic is ideally, a pleasure. The work informs, entertains and stimulates the mind in some way. There is no gainsaying which works will affect which beholders howsoever it does, yet the expectation of pleasure from a work of comics makes beholders seek it. Making the comic is also a pleasure, even if the process can be long-winded, winding and difficult. The maker wants to give others the same pleasure they drew from beholding comics, but in their way, making their vision of Batman, Lieutenant Blueberry or, their own story worlds. What this research seeks to explain are many …
Communications In The Time Of A Pandemic: The Readability Of Documents For Public Consumption, Catherine Ferguson, Margaret Merga, Stephen Winn
Communications In The Time Of A Pandemic: The Readability Of Documents For Public Consumption, Catherine Ferguson, Margaret Merga, Stephen Winn
Research outputs 2014 to 2021
© 2021 The Authors Objective: Government communications in a crisis can influence public health outcomes. This research aimed to investigate if written communications of the most commonly sought sources of COVID-19 information available on the internet have readability levels commensurate with those of the general public. Methods: Online documents from the World Health Organization (WHO), and the governments of Australia, the UK and the US were assessed for readability using an online instrument that calculated scores for the Flesch Reading Ease Score, the SMOG Index and the Readability Consensus Grade Level. Results: Similar to the previous research, most documents assessed …
The Outcomes Of Fifth-Grade Emergent Bi/Multilinguals’ Introduction To A Visual Metalanguage When Constructing Scientific Explanations In Hong Kong, Melanie Williams, Kok-Sing Tang
The Outcomes Of Fifth-Grade Emergent Bi/Multilinguals’ Introduction To A Visual Metalanguage When Constructing Scientific Explanations In Hong Kong, Melanie Williams, Kok-Sing Tang
Research outputs 2014 to 2021
The visual mode provides emergent bi/multilinguals an essential resource to construct scientific explanations. Yet, while a metalanguage is used to describe the written mode of scientific language such as, claim, evidence, reason; there is little research that makes students aware of the metalanguage of a visual mode. We propose an introduction to the visual metalanguage will ensure emergent bi/multilinguals better access to the visual mode. This study employs an instrumental case study to examine the introduction of visual metalanguage to a fifth-grade science class. Two cameras record ten emergent bi/multilinguals as they construct scientific explanations in nine lessons. We use …
Detection And Recognition Of Moving Video Objects: Kalman Filtering With Deep Learning, Hind Rustum Mohammed, Zahir M. Hussain
Detection And Recognition Of Moving Video Objects: Kalman Filtering With Deep Learning, Hind Rustum Mohammed, Zahir M. Hussain
Research outputs 2014 to 2021
© 2021. All rights reserved. Research in object recognition has lately found that Deep Convolutional Neuronal Networks (CNN) provide a breakthrough in detection scores, especially in video applications. This paper presents an approach for object recognition in videos by combining Kalman filter with CNN. Kalman filter is first applied for detection, removing the background and then cropping object. Kalman filtering achieves three important functions: predicting the future location of the object, reducing noise and interference from incorrect detections, and associating multi-objects to tracks. After detection and cropping the moving object, a CNN model will predict the category of object. The …
