Executive Deviance As A Sociopolitical Force In Dismissals, Jeremy J. Foreman, Brian P. Soebbing, Chad S. Seifried Jan 2021

Executive Deviance As A Sociopolitical Force In Dismissals, Jeremy J. Foreman, Brian P. Soebbing, Chad S. Seifried

Faculty Publications

The seminal model of CEO dismissals utilizes four sociopolitical forces that operate together in determining whether a CEO will be dismissed. Missing from the sociopolitical forces of CEO dismissals is executive deviance. We propose the inclusion of executive deviance as the fifth sociopolitical force in CEO dismissals, which is not limited to the deviant actions of the executive, but also the executive’s subordinates. Within the comprehensive CEO dismissal framework, the effect of executive deviance on head coach dismissals in the National Football League (NFL) from the 2000–2001 to 2015–2016 season is examined using four levels of executive deviance: (a) deviance …

Perceptions On Implementing A Comprehensive Athletic Website And Online Streaming Service For Kentucky High Schools, Steve Chen, Adrienne Hall, Anna K. Gdovka, Eric Street

Atlantic Marketing Journal

Student participation in interscholastic athletics reached record levels in 2019-20 for the third consecutive year in Kentucky (KHSAA, 2020). Sport marketers have strongly advocated social media as a powerful and effective tool to promote sporting events at all levels. However, existing studies rarely focus on the trend for promoting interscholastic sports through social media platforms. This study examined the potential of an interactive website and online streaming service focusing on interscholastic sports may provide to high schools in Kentucky. After evaluating more than 102 high school athletic websites, the authors found schools were in need to improve the current website …

Configuring Perceived Fit To Mitigate Consumer Animosity In The Context Of Cross-Border Sport Sponsorships., Robert Angell, Paul Bottomley, Ružica Brečić, Jelena Filipović, Matthew Gorton, Maria Logkizidou, John White

Plymouth Business School

Abstract Research question: While cross-border sport sponsorships are widespread, such partnerships introduce a notable complication – consumers in one country may dislike the sponsor’s country of origin (COO). This raises the question as to whether animosity towards a sponsor’s COO negatively affects sponsorship outcomes, and if so, how it can be addressed. For the latter, we examine holistic sponsor-object fit as well as a set of its constituent elements. Research methods: Data collection pertained to a brand engaged in a hypothetical sponsorship. Study 1 involves a Serbian brand sponsoring the Croatia national football team and for Study 2 German sponsors …

Parent And Teacher Perceptions Of Adolescent Use Of Mobile Technology For Diabetes Care In Kenya, Francis Kanyugi

Walden Dissertations and Doctoral Studies

Mobile technology use provides an opportunity for the self-management of health among adolescents, serving as a lifestyle intervention tool to promote well-being and attenuate chronic conditions. However, little is known about how parents and teachers perceive how adolescents with chronic illness use mobile technology. This basic qualitative study aimed to explore teachers’ and parents’ perceptions regarding the use of mobile technology by adolescents who have diabetes in Kenya. This study’s conceptual framework was the unified theory of acceptance and use of technology. Data were collected from semistructured interviews with six teachers and eight parents from two counties in Kenya. The …

The Decision To Play: College Football In The Era Of Covid-19, Jason Tabit Jan 2021

The Decision To Play: College Football In The Era Of Covid-19, Jason Tabit

Undergraduate Honors Theses

COVID-19 upended life around the world, including on college campuses across the U.S. where institutions restructured their class modalities, campus life, extracurricular activities, and intercollegiate athletics - including college football. We examine the factors that led universities to make their decisions to play or not play college football during fall 2020, hypothesizing that the decision to play would be consistent with the decision about class modality for health and safety reasons, and that monetary and political motivations would also play a significant role. We collected data for 249 institutions and used logistic regression techniques to test our hypotheses. We ultimately …

I Want To Vs. I Can't: A Case Study On Motives And Constraints For Chinese College Students Attending Or Media Viewing The 2018 Winter Olympics, Jeeyoon Kim, Haozhou Pu

Global Sport Business Journal

This case study aims to understand what motives and constraints affect Chinese college student’s intention to attend or media view the 2018 Winter Olympics. Grounded on ‘negotiation of motives and constraints’, key internal and external motives and intrapersonal, interpersonal, and structural constraints were identified through thought-listing procedures (n=35); their influences on attendance and media viewing intentions were tested based on online surveys (n=313) and structural equation modeling. Highlighting key findings, motives of social influence and interest in winter sport had strong effects on both intentions. Structural constraints such as lack of time were more likely to affect both intentions than …

Policy Considerations Regarding Student Loan Debt And Higher Education, Todd R. Niemczyk Esq. Jan 2021

Policy Considerations Regarding Student Loan Debt And Higher Education, Todd R. Niemczyk Esq.

UNF Graduate Theses and Dissertations

Within the last 30 years, the policy considerations regarding student loan debt and higher education have become a series of strong opinions, heated debate, and partisan politics. Key stakeholders including the United States Government, both for-profit and traditional higher- educations institutions, financial organizations, special interest groups, and students all have interests. More so, all branches of Government, the Legislative, Judicial, and Executive, are areas where policy is both born and challenged. Some are aligned, and some are competing such that crafting sound policy regarding the lending and management of student loan debt has created a difficult situation that may well …

An Assessment Study Of Student Experiences In A University Conduct Process, Lucas Jay Morrill

UNF Graduate Theses and Dissertations

This study implements a quantitative assessment survey to explore how experiences of students who participated in a conduct hearing process during the 2020 fall academic semester align with the conduct process learning outcomes of a private liberal arts institution located in northeast Florida (Northeast University). Survey descriptive statistics indicate Northeast University’s conduct process facilitated student understanding of university policies, understanding of their impact on the campus community, and facilitated a process that resulted in a student’s intention to no longer violate university policy again in the future. Data collected also presents trends for students held responsible for COVID-19 related policy …

The Sport Fan Motivation Scale (Wann, Schrader, & Wilson, 1999) was slightly modified in this study to determine fan attendance motives at summer collegiate baseball games. The participants of this study (n = 70) were season ticket holders and multi-game pack purchasers of the St. Cloud Rox baseball organization, a summer collegiate baseball team in the Northwood’s League. Results revealed that sport marketers may want to focus a majority of their attention to entertainment, considering …

Making Old Cool: An Examination Of Retro Branding In Sport, Olzhas Taniyev, Brian S. Gordon Jan 2021

Making Old Cool: An Examination Of Retro Branding In Sport, Olzhas Taniyev, Brian S. Gordon

Global Sport Business Journal

While there has been a “nostalgia boom” in the sport industry from the standpoint of apparel and branding, the interpretation of retro design components by sport consumers has been neglected by sport management scholars. The primary aim of this study was to decipher distinct patterns in retro design specifications and how sport consumers respond to these retro branding elements. Concentrating on specific details of retro branding (e.g., aspects of team logo and uniform design elements), the present study enhances the understanding of retro branding tactics utilized by sport organizations and how retro product offerings are perceived by the consumer. Sixteen …
