Counseling Lgbt Military Clients Using The Multicultural And Social Justice Counseling Competencies Framework, Rebekah F. Cole

Journal of Sustainable Social Impact

When working with LGBT service member clients, counselors should use the Multicultural and Social Justice Counseling Competencies as a framework to guide their practice as they navigate the intersection between the military culture and LGBT culture. This framework addresses four domains that are foundational for multicultural and social justice competency: (a) counselor self-awareness, (b) the client worldview, (c) the counseling relationship, and (d) counseling and advocacy interventions. Included in the framework are the following aspirational competencies within each domain: attitudes and beliefs, knowledge, skills, and action. Best practices for culturally competent, social-justice-focused work with LGBT service members within each of …

Different Strokes: A Critical Race Discourse Analysis Of The Experiences Of Four Black Women Rowing For A Predominantly White Institution (Pwi), Carol Schoenecker

Electronic Theses and Dissertations

Collegiate athletics has the remarkable ability to serve as a catalyst for positive and widespread social change and identity formation. For Black women, the formation of identity comes with the added intersections of race and gender in addition to sport. Collegiate rowing is one of the most heavily scholarshipped sports coming out of the passing of Title IX legislation in 1972 and requires no previous rowing experience for participation (Garran, 2012). Despite the opportunity for rowing to serve as an access point for innumerable young athletes to obtain financial and social support through a pathway to higher education, there remains …

Money Matters: Factors Associated With Receipt Of Financial Aid Among Youth Who Have Experienced Foster Care, Jacob P. Gross, Jennifer M. Geiger, Greg King, Samuel King Aug 2021

Money Matters: Factors Associated With Receipt Of Financial Aid Among Youth Who Have Experienced Foster Care, Jacob P. Gross, Jennifer M. Geiger, Greg King, Samuel King

Journal of Student Financial Aid

Despite high aspirations, youth formerly in foster care may face significant barriers (e.g., academic preparedness, adult mentoring) to obtaining a postsecondary credential. Better understanding the relationship between affordability and postsecondary access for youth formerly in foster care (YFFC) merits attention from researchers because finances often present a barrier to success for this population of students. This exploratory study asks the question: What factors influenced whether YFFC received financial aid and do those factors change over time? Using event history analysis and national longitudinal on foster care and youth outcomes, we explore what factors impact whether a YFFC receives financial aid.

Neutrosophic Matrix Games To Solve Project Management Conflicts, Roberto Carlos Jiménez Martínez, César Elías Paucar Paucar, José Ignacio Cruz Arboleda, Miguel Ángel Guambo Llerena, Erick González Caballero

Neutrosophic Sets and Systems

A project is an effort made by a group of actors during a certain period to obtain a product, service, or result. Project management is the application of knowledge, skills, tools, and techniques to plan and execute activities to achieve the project requirements. Project management implies the need for negotiation between the parties because there may be a contradiction between the parties involved, that is, e.g. between the one who provides the knowledge or goods and the client who receives the final product or knowledge. That is why we propose a neutrosophic solution to manage the contradictions in the negotiation …

Peer-To-Peer Emotional Support For Second Victims Of Hospital Adverse Events, Jessica L. Van Leuven Aug 2021

Peer-To-Peer Emotional Support For Second Victims Of Hospital Adverse Events, Jessica L. Van Leuven

Master's Projects and Capstones

Abstract

Problem: Psychological impact of trauma on healthcare workers is profound, and if left unaddressed can debilitate its victims, depress morale, and undermine safety culture. When adverse events occur and focus is placed on providing care and support to patients and their families, the emotional support needs of healthcare workers must also be acknowledged.

Context: Frontline workers in the oncology unit of the medical center that is the setting for this project experience emotional distress as “second victims” of adverse patient events. Close relationships develop between providers and patients during long-term treatments. When unanticipated or adverse patient events there can …

“I’M Not Staying In The Hospital Tonight”: How Emergency Departments Can Leverage Health And Social Services At Home To Support Care Transitions For Older Patients, Emily Franzosa, Ula Hwang, Maya Genovesi, Orna Intrator, Thomas Edes, Michael Malone Aug 2021

“I’M Not Staying In The Hospital Tonight”: How Emergency Departments Can Leverage Health And Social Services At Home To Support Care Transitions For Older Patients, Emily Franzosa, Ula Hwang, Maya Genovesi, Orna Intrator, Thomas Edes, Michael Malone

Journal of Geriatric Emergency Medicine

When hospital admission is less than desirable and sending a patient home alone feels unsafe, connecting patients to health and social services at home are a valuable third option for emergency providers. Coordinating home support services from the ED is effective care delivery and aligns with health systems’ goals of decreasing avoidable admissions, and developing capacity to assess and refer patients to home support from the ED is part of good emergency care. Change also doesn’t have to happen overnight. Taking small steps now to improve older patients' transitions to home can help EDs build toward high-quality, patient-centered care for …

Workload, Megan Paul Aug 2021

Workload, Megan Paul

Umbrella Summaries

What is workload?

There is no one, universally accepted definition of workload. A broad definition is that it is “an all-encompassing term that includes any variable reflecting the amount or difficulty of one’s work” (Bowling & Kirkendall, 2012, p. 222). Quantitative workload is the label for the amount of work done, and qualitative workload is the label for the difficulty of work (Bowling & Kirkendall, 2012). Further, there is a distinction between mental and physical workload and between objective and perceived workload (Bowling & Kirkendall, 2012). A variety of approaches have been used to measure objective workload. A common one …

Construct Validity Of The General Outcomes Of Bystander Action Scale: When Bystander Consequences Predict Future Bystander Behavior, Alison Krauss Aug 2021

Construct Validity Of The General Outcomes Of Bystander Action Scale: When Bystander Consequences Predict Future Bystander Behavior, Alison Krauss

Psychology Theses and Dissertations

Sexual and physical relationship violence are prevalent public health concerns on college campuses. Bystander training programs have recently been introduced as a means to prevent or intervene upon such violence, and generally lead to increases in prosocial bystander behavior. However, little is known about the consequences of engaging in prosocial bystander behavior. The General Outcomes of Bystander Action Scale (GOBAS) has been proposed to examine such consequences, and preliminary evidence points to some validity of this scale. The current research aims to add upon this research by replicating the factor structure of the GOBAS and providing evidence of criterion validity. …

Targeted Provider Education And Pre-Visit Planning Increase Rates Of Formal Depression Screening In Childhood-Onset Sle., Evan Mulvihill, Rebecca Furru, Alana Goldstein-Leever, Kyla Driest, Stephanie Lemle, Darby Macdonald, Emily Frost, Vidya Sivaraman

Department of Pediatrics Faculty Papers

BACKGROUND: Despite being at high risk for depression, patients with childhood-onset systemic lupus erythematosus (c-SLE) are infrequently and inconsistently screened for depression by their pediatric rheumatologists. We aimed to systematically increase rates of formal depression screening for c-SLE patients in an academic Pediatric Rheumatology clinic.

METHODS: Our multi-disciplinary quality improvement (QI) team used electronic health record (EHR) documentation to retroactively calculate baseline rates of documented depression screening using the Patient Health Questionnaire-9 (PHQ-9). We then engaged key stakeholders to develop a clinical workflow for formal depression screening in the clinic. We also provided education to providers regarding mental health disorders …

Comparative Analysis Of Definitions Of A Polysemantic Word Proverb In The Reference Books, Shuhratjon Boykhanov, Abdumajit Mamadaliev

Mental Enlightenment Scientific-Methodological Journal

In writing a research paper or learning a foreign language, it is normally used in reference books to provide a definition of a particular term. If the term is well explained and defined, there will be no question. However, all reference books do not always add even frequently used words and their multiple meanings to the word lists. Consequently, it will engender difficulty among language. Similar limitations were found in analysing the definition of the word proverb and its meanings and equivalents in Russian, and Uzbek Dictionaries. Qualitative analysis revealed that there were some gaps, such as limited word meaning …
