Background There is global interest in the reconfiguration of community mental health services, including primary care, to improve clinical and cost effectiveness. Aims This study seeks to describe patterns of service use, continuity of care, health risks, physical healthcare monitoring and the balance between primary and secondary mental healthcare for people with severe mental illness in receipt of secondary mental healthcare in the UK. Method We conducted an epidemiological medical records review in three UK sites. We identified 297 cases randomly selected from the three participating mental health services. Data were manually extracted from electronic patient medical records from both …

The Remote Assessment Of Parkinsonism Supporting The Ongoing Development Of Interventions In Gaucher Disease, Abigail Louise Higgins, Marco Toffoli, Stephen Mullin, Chiao Yin Lee, Sofia Koletsi, Micol Avenali, Fabio Blandini, Anthony H.V. Schapira Jan 2021

The Remote Assessment Of Parkinsonism Supporting The Ongoing Development Of Interventions In Gaucher Disease, Abigail Louise Higgins, Marco Toffoli, Stephen Mullin, Chiao Yin Lee, Sofia Koletsi, Micol Avenali, Fabio Blandini, Anthony H.V. Schapira

Mutations in GBA which are causative of Gaucher disease in their biallelic form, are the most common genetic risk factor for Parkinson's disease (PD). The diagnosis of PD relies upon clinically defined motor features which appear after irreversible neurodegeneration. Prodromal symptoms of PD may provide a means to predict latent pathology, years before the onset of motor features. Previous work has reported prodromal features of PD in GBA mutation carriers, however this has been insufficiently sensitive to identify those that will develop PD. The Remote Assessment of Parkinsonism Supporting Ongoing Development of Interventions in Gaucher Disease (RAPSODI GD) study assesses …

A Multicentre Prospective Double Blinded Randomised Controlled Trial Of Intravenous Iron (Ferric Derisomaltose (Fdi)) In Iron Deficient But Not Anaemic Patients With Chronic Kidney Disease On Functional Status, S. Bhandari, V. Allgar, A. Lamplugh, I. Macdougall, P. A. Kalra Jan 2021

A. Kalra

Abstract Background Iron deficiency (ID) is common in patients with chronic kidney disease (CKD). Intravenous (IV) iron in heart failure leads to improvement in exercise capacity and improvement in quality-of-life measurements; however, data in patients with CKD are lacking. Methods The Iron and the Heart Study was a prospective double blinded randomised study in non-anaemic CKD stages 3b-5 patients with ID which investigated whether 1000 mg of IV iron (ferric derisomaltose (FDI)) could improve exercise capacity in comparison to placebo measured at 1 and 3 months post infusion. Secondary objectives included effects on haematinic profiles and haemoglobin, safety analysis and …

An Analytical Model For Loop Tiling Transformation, V Kelefouras Jan 2021

An Analytical Model For Loop Tiling Transformation, V Kelefouras

School of Engineering, Computing and Mathematics

Loop tiling is a well-known loop transformation that enhances data locality in memory hierarchy. In this paper, we initially reveal two important inefficiencies of current analytical loop tiling models and we provide the theoretical background on how current analytical models can address these inefficiencies. To this end, we propose a new analytical model which is more accurate that the existing ones. We showcase, both theoretically and experimentally, that the proposed model can accurately estimate the number of cache misses for every generated tile size and as a result more efficient tile sizes are opted. Our evaluation results provide high cache …

Prosthetic Realities, Prosthetic Futures: Challenging The Status Quo Of External Breast Prosthesis Design, Rosie Brave Jan 2021

Prosthetic Realities, Prosthetic Futures: Challenging The Status Quo Of External Breast Prosthesis Design, Rosie Brave

School of Art, Design and Architecture Theses

This practice-based research identifies the need and opportunity to update the design approach used in the production of external breast prostheses (EBP) for women post mastectomy. Spurred by accounts of some women’s negative experiences with their EBP, this research took influence from colour psychology, emotional design and consumer psychology to explore the potential to create a satisfying and transformative product and user-experience. Drawing on grounded theory, design ethnography and human-centred design practices, an iterative, empathic and participant-centred design process and methodology emerged. Insights from interviews, cultural probes, co-design activities and solo practice were combined to inform the making of speculative …

Developing Port Sustainability Awareness And Management: Systems, Processes And Planning, Ridvan Anil Karacay Jan 2021

Developing Port Sustainability Awareness And Management: Systems, Processes And Planning, Ridvan Anil Karacay

Plymouth Business School Theses

The Port Sustainability Management System (PSMS) is a well-known sustainability management system for smaller ports. Attempting to update and modify the PSMS for more global use, involves standardising requirements and needs and addressing certain areas where necessary. The primary aim of this thesis is to review the suitability of an existing bespoke PSMS with a view to facilitating additional applications in the port industry to enable wider perspectives for self-evaluation in terms of port size, type and governance. In addition, it aims to address the lack of a holistic approach in port sustainability management systems. The potential impact of this …

A comprehensive in situ dataset of chlorophyll a (Chl a; N = 18,001), net primary production (NPP; N = 165) and net community production (NCP; N = 95), were used to evaluate the performance of Moderate Resolution Imaging Spectroradiometer on Aqua (MODIS-A) algorithms for these parameters, in the South Atlantic Ocean, to facilitate the accurate generation of satellite NCP time series. For Chl a, five algorithms were tested using MODIS-A data, and OC3-CI performed best, which was subsequently used to compute NPP. Of three NPP algorithms tested, a Wavelength Resolved Model (WRM) was the most accurate, and was therefore used …
