Cucumber (Cucumis sativus L.). was known for lowering blood pressure agents. Some researches show that Cucumber had a similar mechanism with a loop diuretic (Furosemide), exceeding sodium and potassium excretion. However, a part of Cucumber that gives a better effect on managing water and sodium balance remains unknown. This study was to explain the differences potential diuretic among parts of Cucumber (Cucumis sativus L.). This study was using a post-test only control group designed in animals. There were 44 male Mus musculus tested in this study. All of the animal testings was divided into 9 different treatment groups and 2 …
Metabolic Control Of Stem Cell Ageing And Longevity Through Caloric Restriction, Valerie Navarrete
Metabolic Control Of Stem Cell Ageing And Longevity Through Caloric Restriction, Valerie Navarrete
The Yale Undergraduate Research Journal
While prior studies have identified recurring genetic patterns, gaps of knowledge still remain in existing aging mechanisms; where they originate, and how they offer insight to environmental disruptions that dictate health over time. Given the inescapability of age-related deterioration and pathology, stitching together current literature may help demystify the biological process common to all living mammals. The physiological disruption of aged tissue reflects a cellular dependence on environmental cues and historical wear. Retaining the capacity to differentiate into any cell type, a stem cell best parallels a call-and-response relationship between organ and cell. As the longest living proliferative cell in …

Fusion And Beyond: Satellite Cell Contributions To Loading-Induced Skeletal Muscle Adaptation, Kevin A. Murach, Christopher S. Fry, Esther E. Dupont-Versteegden, John J. Mccarthy, Charlotte A. Peterson
Center for Muscle Biology Faculty Publications
Satellite cells support adult skeletal muscle fiber adaptations to loading in numerous ways. The fusion of satellite cells, driven by cell-autonomous and/or extrinsic factors, contributes new myonuclei to muscle fibers, associates with load-induced hypertrophy, and may support focal membrane damage repair and long-term myonuclear transcriptional output. Recent studies have also revealed that satellite cells communicate within their niche to mediate muscle remodeling in response to resistance exercise, regulating the activity of numerous cell types through various mechanisms such as secretory signaling and cell–cell contact. Muscular adaptation to resistance and endurance activity can be initiated and sustained for a period of …

Countermovement Jump Variables And Estimated Peak Power In Female Children With Dynamic Knee Valgus, Mahdis Dadfar, Mehrshad Alipour, Rahman Sheikhhoseini
ISBS Proceedings Archive
The purpose of the current study was to evaluate countermovement jump biomechanical variables and to estimate peak power using different approaches in female children with dynamic knee valgus. Twenty-six female children, aged 10-14, with dynamic knee valgus were recruited. A Kistler force plate was used to record the kinetic data during three CMJ trials. Less peak power (estimated using allometric method) and greater landing force during countermovement jump were significantly correlated with valgus angle in female children (P= 0.033, R= -0.419, and P= 0.0.43, R= 0.413, respectively). Estimated peak power results using Sayers and Harman methods were significantly different from …

Lower Body Musculotendon Unit Function During Bounding, Hurdle Jumping And Running, Danielle Trowell, Aaron Fox, Natalie Saunders, Bill Vicenzino, Jason Bonacci
ISBS Proceedings Archive
To facilitate exercise prescription, this study compared the function of six lower limb musculotendon units during plyometric exercises with running. Fourteen distance runners performed overground running (3.89 m/s), bounding, and hurdle jumps. Computational simulations were used to compare musculotendon unit function, peak powers, and total work. Compared to running, the hurdle jumps had greater gluteus maximus peak power absorption (12.1%; SMD 0.65), and gluteus maximus (15.7%; SMD 0.51) and soleus (16.5%; SMD 0.92) total negative work. Hurdle jumps may be an appropriate exercise when higher eccentric loads of the gluteus maximus and soleus are required. Compared to running, bounding had …

Forearm Loading And Symmetry During Artistics Gymnastics Vault Training Sessions., Rhiannon A. Campbell
ISBS Proceedings Archive
Vaulting places considerable load on the upper limbs which can be associated with pain and injury. This study aims to use forearm-mounted IMUs to quantify forearm segmental loading and symmetry when performing foundation to advanced-level vaults. Twelve artistic gymnasts (female, n= 6; male, n= 6) wore bilateral forearm-mounted IMUs while completing their vault training sessions. The peak resultant acceleration (PRA) for the leading and non-leading forearms during hand contact was calculated. Descriptive statistics (median and IQR) and symmetry index scores (SI%) were calculated between the lead and non-lead forearms. High asymmetrical loading during vault contact was identified for some Yurchenko …

IGC Proceedings (1977-2023)
This trial was conducted to evaluate growth dynamics and defoliation frequency of Italian ryegrass (Lolium multiflorum) and Paspalum urvillei in a lowland area under three levels of P and K. Using randomization tests we observed that, in a general way, fertilizer treatments were not the determinant factors of leaf appearance and elongation rates for both species. Only the leaf appearance rate of Paspalum urvillei at 100 % of recommendation level and the elongation rate for Italian ryegrass, in the same treatment, was different. Probably other factors, like drainage, are contributing to these results. I. ryegrass phyllochron ranged from …

Food contact materials (FCMs) are materials that come in contact with food products such as food packaging which play a significant role in the food quality and safety. Plastic, which is a major food packaging material, harms the eco-system, wildlife, and the environment. As a result, numerous researches have been in progress on alternative polymers, which has similar properties as plastic but is also environmentally friendly (biodegradable). In recent years, the utilization of seaweed polysaccharides has piqued interest due to its biodegradability, non-toxicity, antioxidant capabilities, and excellent film formation ability. However, it has a number of drawbacks such as low …

To save the lives of Nepalese women and girls, a comprehensive approach should be adopted, which will necessarily require the active participation of the government, non-governmental organizations, as well as the citizens in promoting education, eradicating poverty, and enforcing stronger laws and border security. Each year, thousands of Nepalese women and girls become the victim of modern-day slavery, and this has been a steady growing criminal industry. Women’s rights in Nepal have been ignored due to issues such as illiteracy, poverty, unemployment, political instability, and corruptions. Despite the government of Nepal being well aware of this issue, its initiatives and …

Alfie Scholars Conferences
We should make great efforts to achieve equal treatment in the healthcare sector despite the color, gender, and socio-economy of a person. With the ongoing high cases, the COVID-19 pandemic has further revealed the racial inequality that has been in existence in the health care system for such a long time, the history of health inequality, and the statistical data relating to the population and particular groups affected. I will tell my experience at the start as a healthcare worker with some of the feedback I have gotten from people from these affected communities, and I will provide the reasons …
