Adult Perspectives Of Kaleidoscope Connect: A Social Emotional Program Aimed At Promoting Resilience Among Youth, Samantha Cody Russell
Graduate Student Theses, Dissertations, & Professional Papers
Purpose. The current study explored the perspectives of adults who participate in Kaleidoscope Connect, and specifically, to understand how effective adults perceive the program in its attempt to promote resilience, school safety, and the psychological well-being of youth.
Background. Youth who encounter stressful life circumstances or experience trauma often experience negative life outcomes, such as lower academic achievement, mental illness, and perpetrating violence (Liu, Reed & Girard, 2016). Research, however, has demonstrated that some youth who have these experiences have more positive outcomes, including psychological health, strong academic achievement, and financial stability (Zolkoski & Bullock, 2012). Resilience is a dynamic …
Promoting Well-Being Among College Students: The Effects Of A Positive Psychology Course, Daniel Jm Salois
Promoting Well-Being Among College Students: The Effects Of A Positive Psychology Course, Daniel Jm Salois
Graduate Student Theses, Dissertations, & Professional Papers
College students report high rates of mental distress, including depression, high stress, anxiety, lack of social support, and physical ailments. College campuses use a variety of approaches to address the well-being of students. However, existing interventions have mixed results and do not always reach all students who may need mental health support. Positive psychology courses and positive psychology interventions have shown promise in promoting well-being. In this quantitative, quasi-experimental, pretest-posttest archival study, I examined the effects of a semester-long happiness and positive psychology course (COUN 195) on students’ well-being and mental health. This innovative happiness course included didactic lectures, small …

A Study On Family Engagement And Covid-19 Experiences At The Hsu Children's Center, Elizabeth Rice
Cal Poly Humboldt theses and projects
This study surveyed the diverse families at the HSU Children’s Center who have children ranging in age from infancy to preschool. Since the COVID-19 pandemic, the way the Children’s Center operates has changed in profound ways. The families are no longer able to enter the classrooms to drop off or pick up their children, thereby limiting the daily communication and interactions with staff on how their children are doing. Families opportunities to engage and interact with other families has also been altered, resulting in a sense of loss of community and support among parents.
The purpose of this study was …

The Lived Experience Of African American Young Adult Men With Hiv And Self-Care Collaborative Management, Barbara A. Moore
Walden Dissertations and Doctoral Studies
AbstractAfrican American young adult (AAYA) men living with HIV often lack interventions that address the influence that HIV has on their quality of life, especially their relationships. Self-care collaborative management (SCCM) concerns related to disclosure and stigmatization complicate social, psychological, and SCCM behaviors. Intervention programs addressing these concerns should be based on relevant, accurate information, but this information is lacking for AAYAs. The purpose of this research was to explore and describe the lived experiences of male AAYAs with HIV and their use of SCCM. The study method was qualitative; Husserl’s transcendental phenomenology was the design. The individual family self-management …

The Impact Of Effective Patient Advocacy In Ghana Health Care Reform, Gladys Opong-Tetteh
Walden Dissertations and Doctoral Studies
AbstractPatient advocacy has become a vital concept for healthcare providers all over the world. There is evidence that the concept of patient advocacy is not new in Ghana. However, the degree of its practice continues to be negative and quite narrow in Ghana and even in Africa as a whole. It has also been argued that effective patience advocacy practice is either scarce or non-existent in Ghana. To address this issue, an assessment of the medical policies in Ghana was conducted, informed by the applied psychology theoretical framework. This study focused on using phenomenological inquiry to better understand patients’ experiences …
