Mechanism For The Unfolding Of The Top7 Protein In Steered Molecular Dynamics Simulations As Revealed By Mutual Information Analysis, Ognjen Perišić, Willy Wriggers
Mechanical & Aerospace Engineering Faculty Publications
We employed mutual information (MI) analysis to detect motions affecting the mechanical resistance of the human-engineered protein Top7. The results are based on the MI analysis of pair contact correlations measured in steered molecular dynamics (SMD) trajectories and their statistical dependence on global unfolding. This study is the first application of the MI analysis to SMD forced unfolding, and we furnish specific SMD recommendations for the utility of parameters and options in the TimeScapes package. The MI analysis provided a global overview of the effect of perturbation on the stability of the protein. We also employed a more conventional trajectory …

Risk Factors For Poor Outcomes Among Patients With Extensively Drug-Resistant Tuberculosis (Xdr-Tb): A Scoping Review., Karan Varshney, Beverly Anaele, Matthew Molaei, Rosemary Frasso, Vittorio Maio
College of Population Health Faculty Papers
In recent years, there has been an upsurge in cases of drug-resistant TB, and strains of TB resistant to all forms of treatment have begun to emerge; the highest level of resistance is classified as extensively drug-resistant tuberculosis (XDR-TB). There is an urgent need to prevent poor outcomes (death/default/failed treatment) of XDR-TB, and knowing the risk factors can inform such efforts. The objective of this scoping review was to therefore identify risk factors for poor outcomes among XDR-TB patients. We searched three scientific databases, PubMed, Scopus, and ProQuest, and identified 25 articles that examined relevant risk factors. Across the included …
The Reconstruction Of Hatchery Creek: Effects On Macroinvertebrate And Fish Community Dynamics, Patrick Vrablik
The Reconstruction Of Hatchery Creek: Effects On Macroinvertebrate And Fish Community Dynamics, Patrick Vrablik
Murray State Theses and Dissertations
Hatchery Creek is a restored stream in Jamestown, KY that drains Wolf Creek National Fish Hatchery. The previous degraded channel of Hatchery Creek caused large sediment plumes in the Lower Cumberland River and was restored to decrease sediment loss and provide the opportunity for a self-sustaining trout population. I predicted that the increased amount of habitat would increase taxa richness, abundance and biomass of macroinvertebrates. Macroinvertebrates were monitored in three periods; the degraded period, a one-year recovery period, and a restored period using surber and kicknet samples in order to determine biomass, abundance, diversity, taxa richness, and macroinvertebrate biotic index. …
Factors That Influence Entrepreneurship And Digital Talent In The Rural Heartland: Missouri, Kansas, Oklahoma, And Arkansas, Chett Daniel
Factors That Influence Entrepreneurship And Digital Talent In The Rural Heartland: Missouri, Kansas, Oklahoma, And Arkansas, Chett Daniel
Murray State Theses and Dissertations
The current state of many rural communities demands new, more relevant economic development strategies. Traditional models of rural economic development often rely on farming, natural resource extraction, and industrial type jobs that rely on lower cost labor usually focused on manufacturing of product or food. Farm jobs declined decades ago. Offshoring, and more recently automation is rapidly reducing the number of jobs available in rural areas. Jobs and economic vitality are critical to sustaining or growing communities. While traditional methods of industry attraction are still viable strategies to spur economic activity, rural areas must develop concurrent economic strategies driven by …

Using Evidence-Based Approaches To Increase Cervical Cancer Screening Understanding And Uptake Among African American Women, Rosita Atilus
Electronic Theses and Dissertations 2020 - Present
Cervical cancer screening and prevention is an important aspect of primary care. Primary care providers (PCPs) have the role of either performing the initial screening test or referring to gynecologists for testing and follow-up care if needed. The PCPs have the opportunity to to discuss the importance of cervical cancer screening at each encounter. This is of particular importance for African-American (AA) women. According to Gopalini et al. (2020) AA women have significantly higher cervical cancer incidence and mortality rates than Non-Hispanic Whites. This quality improvement project was conducted to increase the understanding of cervical cancer screening and uptake among …

Improving The Health Of Patients With Non-Alcoholic Fatty Liver Disease By Engaging Providers To Implement Evidence-Based Nutrition: The Mediterranean Diet, Andrea Dinetta
Electronic Theses and Dissertations 2020 - Present
Non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) is a hidden epidemic that is rising to alarming levels worldwide. With no definitive guidelines established for treating this disease, many providers resort to advising their patients to “lose weight” without specific dietary guidance. Providers are lacking the education and tools needed to implement evidence-based treatment that already exists in peer reviewed research. The Mediterranean Diet (MedDiet) is one such evidence-based treatment that can be implemented in a healthcare setting. The goal of this project is to reduce the morbidity associated with NAFLD by giving providers the tools necessary to implement the MedDiet as a …
