Biosynthesis, Characterization And Antiproliferative Activity Of Green Synthesized Gold Nanoparticles Using Lantadene A Extracted From Lantana Camara, Dawood Ali Salim Dawood, Lee Suan Chua Ph.D, Tian Swee Tan Ph.D, Ahmed F. Alshemary Ph.D
Karbala International Journal of Modern Science
This study was focused on the biosynthesis of gold nanoparticles loaded with lantadene A (LA-AuNPs) from Lantana camara extract and the antiproliferative effects on prostate cancer cells (LNCaP). The synthesized LA-AuNPs had smooth surface, and nearly spherical in shape (67.94 nm) with the zeta potential (-30.11±0.83 mV). LAAuNPs showed a dose dependent cytotoxic activity with IC50, 126.82 µg/mL against LNCaP, but non-cytotoxic to normal prostate cells. The intrinsic pathway of apoptosis was caused by the increase of caspases-3/7 and -9 activity and cell cycle arrest at the G0/G1 phase. Therefore, LA-AuNPs could be a potent lead to inhibit LNCaP

A New England Emigrant Aid Company Agent In Postwar Florida: Selected Letters Of James F. B. Marshall, 1867, Patricia P. Clark
Florida Historical Quarterly
When the New England Emigrant Aid Company, seeking to revitalize its colonizing enterprises after the Civil War, considered Florida as a prime location for northern settlers, the officers sent James F. B. Marshall on a scouting tour of the state. A native New Englander, former Hawaiian businessman, and paymaster general of Massachusetts troops, Marshall had volunteered for the assignment shortly after his election to the company’s board of directors in November 1866. Before he left Boston for a New York departure on December 18, Marshall was given a letter of instructions drafted by President John Murray Forbes and Vice President …

Developing Core-Shell Silver/Polymeric Nano-Composites As Drug Nano-Carriers For Breast Cancer Therapy, Nancy Mohamed El-Baz
Archived Theses and Dissertations
In an attempt to find an effective cancer therapy, nanotherapeutics comes onto the scene as a new therapeutic approach, which is emerging both nanotechnology and biotechnology. Nanotherapeutics offer tremendous advantages over conventional cancer therapy including prolonged drug systemic circulation half-life, targeted drug delivery and nanoparticles-based combination therapy, which result in improving drug pharmacokinetic profile and efficacy/toxicity balance. Recently, ongoing studies regarding cancer therapy are focusing on the anticancer action of various inorganic nanoparticles such as gold (AuNPs) and silver (AgNPs) nanoparticles. In fact, AgNPs have proven a potent anticancer action on different cancer types.

Covid Primary Care Remobilization Through Schedule Improvement And Care Team Optimization, Christine Cote, Catherine Boucher-Cornelio, Jordan S. Peck
Southern Maine Health Care
In March 2020 Southern Maine Health Care (SMHC) suspended non-urgent services in order to respond to the emerging COVID-19 crisis. By July 2020 the system was prepared to re-open core services. Significant losses in staffing and a high backlog of demand required our primary care practices to think differently about operations in order to increase capacity while not burning out team members. A pilot team from our Saco Family Medicine Practice was selected to perform rapid tests of change with the goal of returning to pre-COVID visit rates (~16 visits per provider per day).

Pranayama Breathing Detection With Deep Learning, Bikash Shrestha

Yoga, a complementary health approach, according to a 2017 National Health Interview Survey by the Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), is a choice of around 14.3% adults in the US. Kapalbhati pranayama, a yoga practice of alternating fast exhales and longer passive inhales, is understood to improve our health. Incorrect and irregular practices, however, can cause injuries and adverse effects. To avoid these undesired effects, it is essential to maintain a pace fit for the practitioner. In the absence of any tools to observe a pace of practice, this work develops a deep learning method that listens to …

Primary Localized Amyloidosis Of The Ureter With Osseous Metaplasia Presenting As A Suspicious Ureteral Mass, Nada Shaker, Zofia Tynski, Madeline Hudlak, Roy R Brown, Shadi Qasem, Anil Parwani
Pathology and Laboratory Medicine Faculty Publications
Primary amyloidosis of the ureter is a rare disease that is difficult to distinguish from urothelial carcinoma. Only 50 cases of primary ureter amyloidosis have been reported since it was first described in 1937. Of these, only five cases of ureter amyloidosis with osseous metaplasia were reported. In this study, we report the clinical presentation of ureter primary amyloidosis that presented as a mass with osseous metaplasia. The aim of this study is to provide clinicians with knowledge about the clinical/radiologic manifestation that raise the suspicion of amyloidosis, bearing in mind the importance of differentiating it from other "malignant" processes.

Somites are important mesoderm structures that form in regularly timed intervals from the anterior end of the paraxial mesoderm at the end of gastrulation during embryogenesis. Cells of the ventromedial portion of the somite, the sclerotome, undergo epithelial to mesenchymal transition, surround the notochord, and give rise to connective tissues of the axial skeleton including the vertebrae, tendons, and ligaments. We are interested in understanding how the sclerotome is compartmentalized into the region that makes tendons. Genes expressed in the sclerotome, twist1 and twist2, are likely involved in the downstream differentiation of sclerotome to tendon progenitors. Previous studies have shown …

Natural Sciences and Mathematics | Faculty Scholarship
Innovative drug treatments for malaria, optimally with novel targets, are needed to combat the threat of parasite drug resistance. As drug development efforts continue, there may be a role for a host-targeting, repurposed cancer drug administered together with an artemisinin combination therapy that was shown to improve the speed of recovery from a malaria infection.

The literature demonstrates many benefits of interprofessional education (IPE) simulations in various types of formats that facilitate greater student knowledge and understanding of professions outside their own (O’Hara et al., 2018; Clauser et al., 2020; Cooper, Spencer-Dawe & Mclean, 2005; Djukic et al., 2015; Lazinski et al., 2021). The goals of my doctoral capstone experience (DCE) were to: 1) Develop IPE curriculum and active learning sessions along with assessment plans for professional programs on the Nova Southeastern University (NSU) – Tampa Bay Regional Campus with emphasis on advocacy for the occupational therapy (OT) profession, 2) Lead educational opportunities for students …

Knowledge Of The Lgbtqia+ Community By Occupational Therapy Practitioners And Students, Emily A. Quick
Department of Occupational Therapy Entry-Level Capstone Projects
The field of occupational therapy allows for unique client-therapist relationships through its holistic, client-centered approach to therapy. Sexual orientation and gender identity are frequently overlooked client personal factors. Members of the LGBTQIA+ community have their own health risks and health disparities that are frequently not taught in a typical classroom setting. The research focus area was chosen to attempt to fill the gap in the literature of occupational therapists and occupational therapy students’ knowledge of LGBTQIA+ culture through semi-structured interviews. The education focus area was chosen to get a better understanding of the dissemination of information to occupational therapy students. …
