Health, Productivity, And Engagement: Using Modular Product Design To Integrally Improve The Workplace Environment, Xinyue Guo
Theses
With the fast pace of city life and workplace stress, there are growing concerns in relation to well-being and staying healthy. As a space that has relatively undefined functions in a work environment, breakrooms are increasingly expected to contribute to reducing these concerns. However, the vast majority of workplace breakrooms that exist are insufficiently designed achieving only basic functions such as sitting and eating. This thesis questions why existing workplace breakrooms are so neglected, when they have great potential to play a much more important role in the workplace. Firstly, this thesis discusses current literature and qualitative research on the …

Tisagenlecleucel is indicated for pediatric and young adult patients with relapsed/refractory (r/r) B-cell acute lymphoblastic leukemia (B-ALL) and adult patients with r/r diffuse large B-cell lymphoma (DLBCL). The tisagenlecleucel chimeric antigen receptor (CAR) contains a murine single-chain variable fragment domain; we examined the effects of humoral and cellular immune responses to tisagenlecleucel on clinical outcomes using 2 validated assays. Data were pooled from the ELIANA (registered at www.clinicaltrials.gov as #NCT02435849) and ENSIGN (#NCT02228096) trials in r/r B-ALL (N = 143) and the JULIET trial (#NCT02445248) in r/r DLBCL (N = 115). Humoral responses were determined …
Vigilance Experiences: Cancer Patients, Families, And Nurses, Wendy C. Kooken
Vigilance Experiences: Cancer Patients, Families, And Nurses, Wendy C. Kooken
Dissertations
Cancer disease, treatment, and errors in health care put patients at increased risk for poor outcomes. To improve outcomes and protect patients, researchers recommend increased vigilance; yet, research on vigilance in health care is minimal. There are even fewer studies on patients, family members, and nurses' experiences of vigilance, although such studies could contribute to understanding mechanisms that foster vigilance within and across groups.
The purpose of this study was twofold: Aim 1 was to describe the experiences of vigilance as perceived at the individual levels of patients receiving treatment for cancer, family members of a patient with cancer, and …

"All For The Family:" A Case Study On The Migration Of Philippine Educated Nurses To Ontario Through The Live-In Caregiver Program, Oluwabukola Oladunni Salami
Dissertations
Despite evidence that suggests that nurses migrate to Ontario through the Live-in Caregiver Program, no research has been conducted on this group of nurses in Ontario. This study addresses that gap utilizing the transnational feminist concept of "global care chains" in a single holistic case study design to explore the experience of nurses who migrate to Ontario through the Live-in Caregiver Program (2001-2011), and examine the diverse perspectives of stakeholders on issues of rights and obligations of these nurses. Fifteen live-in caregivers and nine policy stakeholders were interviewed, and an analysis undertaken of immigration and nursing policy documents. Findings indicate …

Utilization Of Evidence-Based Telehealth For Routine Follow-Up Visits In A Va Outpatient Clinic, Alysha M. Degrove, Glynnis M. Winfree
DNP and Student Works
Telehealth is a growing alternate/adjunctive setting for health care delivery and with its rapid growth it is important to make sure telehealth is not only convenient but is meeting the needs of the patients. The question PICOT presented is: in geriatric patients (P), what is the effect of telehealth (I) compared to face-to-face clinic visits (C) on efficacy and satisfaction in patient care (O)? Based on the available research, there is a moderate to high level of evidence to support the use of telemedicine in the primary care setting and can be especially useful in settings where there is an …

Latinas In The Pipeline To Baccalaureate-Prepared Nursing: Challenges And Supports In Persistence To Degree And Professional Licensure, Cheryl A. Sheils
Dissertations
The United States is rapidly becoming a more racially diverse nation. Racial minority groups are projected to make up 47% of the total population in 2050 and if current population trends continue, they are projected to surpass the non-minority population by the end of the twenty-first century. Furthermore, the Latino population, already the nation's largest minority group, is expected to triple in size and is projected to account for 29% of the total U.S. population by 2050. Unfortunately, the educational pipeline has created a shortage of Latinos in higher education. At the same time, the United States is suffering from …

Current Progress And Future Directions For Theory And Research On Savoring, Fred Bryant
Current Progress And Future Directions For Theory And Research On Savoring, Fred Bryant
Psychology: Faculty Publications and Other Works
As research on savoring has increased dramatically since publication of the book Savoring: A New Model of Positive Experience (Bryant and Veroff, 2007), savoring has gradually become a core concept in positive psychology. I begin by reviewing the evolution of this concept, the development of instruments for assessing savoring ability and savoring strategies, and the wide range of applications of savoring in the psychosocial and health sciences. I then consider important directions for future theory and research. To advance our understanding of how naturalistic savoring unfolds over time, future work should integrate the perceptual judgments involved in not only the …

Pun Monster: How To Effectively Maintain Fitness And Improve Socialization, Yue Yuan
Theses
With the global outbreak of the COVID-19 in 2020, national governments have introduced policies of home quarantine and closing public places, and following social distances. As people spent more time at home, lifestyles changed dramatically, people spent more time looking at their phones and computers, and eating habits changed. This has brought about weight gain and increased anxiety and stress. People have started to do fitness activities at home, but have encountered various problems such as lack of motivation to exercise and lack of peers to supervise each other. The purpose of this paper is to investigate the key factors …

The G7 Summit 2021: Time For Our World Leaders To Step Up To The Challenge Of Anti-Microbial Resistance, Lt Joshi
Peninsula Dental School
In June 2021, I wrote a strongly worded opinion piece published in the New Statesman about the G7 Summit and antimicrobial resistance (AMR) [1]. The piece highlighted that AMR should be addressed in the G7 Summit agenda and that our world leaders must recognize that research and investment into feasible solutions are urgently needed. This personal view adds to that original article. The G7 Summit took place in Carbis Bay, Cornwall, UK on the 11–13 June 2021 and the UK took Presidency of the G7 group of nations [2]. The G7 comprises seven member countries, namely the UK, the USA, …

Somatic mutations are rare in pediatric acute myeloid leukemia (pAML), indicating that alternate strategies are needed to identify targetable dependencies. We performed the first enhancer mapping of pAML in 22 patient samples. Generally, pAML samples were distinct from adult AML samples, and MLL (KMT2A)-rearranged samples were also distinct from non-KMT2A-rearranged samples. Focusing specifically on superenhancers (SEs), we identified SEs associated with many known leukemia regulators. The retinoic acid receptor alpha (RARA) gene was differentially regulated in our cohort, and a RARA-associated SE was detected in 64% of the study cohort across all cytogenetic and molecular subtypes tested. RARA SE+ pAML …

Community College Nursing Students' Experience Of Repeating A Course After Academic Failure, Lisa S. Lewis
Dissertations
This narrative inquiry study looked at community college nursing student repeaters, those who have failed a required nursing course and then gone on to repeat the course. Nursing student repeaters are a population at especially high risk for attrition, and about whom little is known. The community college setting is an important site of nursing education, where approximately half of new nurses do their pre-licensure schooling and where attrition is a particular problem. Fourteen nursing student repeaters were interviewed and eleven of them provided a letter of advice to a future nursing student repeater. While each participant had a unique …

Conserved Forage (Silage And Hay): Progress And Priorities, R. E. Muck, K. J. Shinners
IGC Proceedings (1977-2023)
Forage conservation permits a better supply of quality feed when forage production is low. While haymaking and ensiling have been practiced for generations, research is still needed to 1) understand the processes affecting quality during harvesting and storage and 2) develop practical means to minimize losses and enhance quality.
Several trends in harvesting forages for silage are notable. Kernel processing of maize, once confined to Europe, has become popular in North America. Self-propelled forage harvesters have a larger share of the market due to more contract harvesting and larger farms. Larger harvesters, rakes and mergers help improve productivity and forage …

In 1870, a few Swedes led by Dr. William A. Henschen and his brother Esaias settled on Henry S. Sanford’s lands lying on the south shore of Lake Monroe. Other Swedes were not long in following them to central Florida. Sanford, in need of labor for the development of his new town and the care of his groves, employed Henschen as his agent to return to Sweden to recruit immigrants. In May 1871, Henschen returned with the first of two groups of Swedes. Many of their countrymen, hearing of the Swedish colony at New Uppsala near Sanford, came and established …

John Ellis, Royal Agent For West Florida, Roy A. Rauschenberg
John Ellis, Royal Agent For West Florida, Roy A. Rauschenberg
Florida Historical Quarterly
When Britain acquired West Florida in 1763, John Ellis was appointed royal agent for West Florida. Found only in Nova Scotia, Georgia, and East and West Florida, royal or crown agents were used in underdeveloped but strategically important colonies that lacked the revenue to finance their own government. In these cases the crown assumed the financial load, and the agent was the London-based fiscal officer— the comptroller— supervising the crown’s allocations to the colony. Though easily confused with the better known and more widely used colonial agent, the royal agent was an entirely different kind of office. The royal agent …
