Economics and Finance in Indonesia
This study provides empirical findings on the relationship between deforestation and income in 32 provinces in Indonesia. To enrich the discussion on deforestation, this study investigates the impact of the factors of population, roundwood production, land area, and main crop production on deforestation. The selected main crops in Indonesia are oil palm, coffee, coconut, rubber, and cacao. The results confirm the existence of the EKC relationship between deforestation and income in Indonesia. The study also finds that oil palm production positively affects tree cover loss, but the production of natural rubber has the opposite impact on deforestation.

Demography, Growth And Robots In Advanced And Emerging Economies, Matteo Lanzafame
Fondazione Eni Enrico Mattei Working Papers
This paper provides estimates of the impact of demographic change on labor productivity growth, relying on annual data over 1961-2018 for a panel f 90 advanced and emerging economies. We find that increases in both the young and old population shares have significantly negative effects on labor productivity growth, working via various channels – including physical and human capital accumulation. Splitting the analysis for advanced and emerging economies shows that population ageing has a greater effect on emerging economies than on advanced economies. Extending the benchmark model to include a proxy for the robotization of production, we find evidence indicating …

This research presents a methodology for detecting a single damaged member in a truss bridge and estimating the severity of the damage using static vertical deflection influence …
The Attraction Of Fear And The Potential Therapeutic Value Of Horror Films, Mari-Peyton Kouchinsky
The Attraction Of Fear And The Potential Therapeutic Value Of Horror Films, Mari-Peyton Kouchinsky
Educational Specialist, 2020-current
Cinematic horror has historically had a negative reputation among its peers even though it is a genre that commercially and financially thrives. There are many different perspectives as to what motivates an individual to willingly expose themselves to horror movies, ranging from psychological and metaphorical confrontation with repressed or socially unacceptable behaviors to fulfilling a somatic, thrill-seeking desire. Whatever the motivation, there is potential for harnessing both the psychological and physical reactions for therapeutic intervention. This paper aims to provide counselors with a synthesis of information on the potential therapeutic value of cinematherapy with horror movies, focusing on the relationship …

Developing Iot-Based Geophysical Micro-Observatories Utilizing Cloud Computing, Joshua Sylvester
Computer Science and Engineering Theses and Dissertations
Instrumentation for collecting geophysical data, specifically heat flow, in lake and marine environments has been in existence for over fifty years. Despite this, the costs associated with data collection and the technological limitations of existing instrumentation can be preventative when conducting geophysical studies. Furthermore, the success rate of such studies is limited by the lack of real time data transmission capabilities when instruments are deployed for extended periods of time. As a solution to this problem we have created cost-effective and lightweight IoT-driven instrumentation and combined it with cloud computing technology facilitating real time data transmission to the cloud. Furthermore, …
Exact Inference For Meta-Analysis Of Rare Events And Its Application In Human Genetics, Yanqiu Shao
Exact Inference For Meta-Analysis Of Rare Events And Its Application In Human Genetics, Yanqiu Shao
Statistical Science Theses and Dissertations
Meta-analysis is a statistical approach that integrates data from multiple studies. By aggregating information, it enhances the power to detect the effects of interest and provides an estimate of the effect size with both accuracy and precision. Both fixed-effect and random-effect models are developed and widely used in biomedical research including clinical trials and genomic studies. In the case of rare events data, conventional meta-analysis methods that rely on large sample approximation may not be able to make reliable inferences. There have been various approaches proposed to deal with this situation, in particular, rare binary adverse events in clinical studies. …
