Diligence And Belated Appeals: Ark R. App P.-Civ. 4(B)(3) In Theory And Practice, Johnathan D. Horton
Arkansas Law Review
A series of Arkansas appellate decisions addresses a recurring issue—the entry of a final order without notice to one or more litigants. Appellate deadlines run from the date of entry of a final order, so the lack of notice typically results in the inability to perfect an appeal, as a party unaware of the entry of a final order is unlikely to timely perfect an appeal. This troublesome issue has arisen in Arkansas with sufficient frequency to merit a specific provision in the Arkansas Rules of Appellate Procedure—Civil.4 If a party can satisfy its requirements, Rule 4(b)(3) of the Arkansas …

Demand Forecasting For Lucky Cement, Muhammad Arsalan Rashid
CBER Conference
As we know that demand is the Quantities of a good or service that people are ready to buy at various prices within some given time, other factors besides price held constant I tried to forecast the sales for next years. I removed seasonality factors and applied other determinants to predict the demand. By using values of independent variables in my Regression, the Annual Sales of Lucky Cement for period 2020-2021 is found to be around 7.9 Million Tons.

An Investigation Of Parent Distributions And Long-Term Trends Of Average Maximum And Minimum Temperature In The Limpopo Province Of South Africa, Anna M. Seimela, Daniel Maposa
An Investigation Of Parent Distributions And Long-Term Trends Of Average Maximum And Minimum Temperature In The Limpopo Province Of South Africa, Anna M. Seimela, Daniel Maposa
Journal of Statistics Applications & Probability
In studying natural hazards or disasters that occur due to temperature extremes such as heat waves and cold waves, it is crucial to understand the underlying distributions of the maximum and minimum temperatures at a particular site or region. The present study intends to investigate the parent distributions of maximum and minimum temperatures at various sites in the Limpopo province of South Africa. The parent distributions were investigated at four meteorological stations in Limpopo province, namely: Mara (1949-2018), Messina (1934-2009), Polokwane (1932-2018) and Thabazimbi (1994-2018). Four candidate parent distributions; normal, lognormal, gamma and Weibull distributions, were fitted to the average …

Estimation Of Parameters Of Inverse Lomax Distribution Under Type-Ii Censoring Scheme, Ankita Sharma, Parmil Kumar
Journal of Statistics Applications & Probability
In this paper, Bayesian and E-Bayesian estimation of unknown parameters of Inverse Lomax probability distribution based on Type-II censored samples has been obtained under De Groot Loss Function (DLF), Al-Bayyati Loss function (ABLF), Entropy Loss Function (ELF), Linex Loss Function (LLF) and Minimum Expected Loss Function (MELF). To derive these estimators, we have considered a conjugate gamma prior and uniform hyperprior distributions. The Monte Carlo simulation method has been used to generate a Type-II censored data from Inverse Lomax probability distribution. The performance of the estimators has been tested and compared by computing mean square error (MSE). Further, the relationship …
Size- Biased Poisson-Ishita Distribution And Its Applications To Thunderstorm Events, Kamlesh Kumar Shukla, Rama Shanker
Size- Biased Poisson-Ishita Distribution And Its Applications To Thunderstorm Events, Kamlesh Kumar Shukla, Rama Shanker
Journal of Statistics Applications & Probability
In the present paper, a size-biased Poisson-Ishita distribution (SBPID) has been proposed, which is the size- biasing of the Poisson-Ishita distribution (PID) introduced by Shukla and Shanker (2019). The moments about origin and moments about mean have been obtained and hence expressions for coefficient of variation, skewness, kurtosis and index of dispersion have been derived and their behavior explained graphically. The estimation of its parameter has been discussed using method of moments and maximum likelihood estimation. The applications of SBPID have been explained through real datasets relating to thunderstorm events. The goodness of fit of SBPID has been found satisfactory …

Forecasting the risk of pathogen spillover from reservoir populations of wild or domestic animals is essential for the effective deployment of interventions such as wildlife vaccination or culling. Due to the sporadic nature of spillover events and limited availability of data, developing and validating robust, spatially explicit, predictions is challenging. Recent efforts have begun to make progress in this direction by capitalizing on machine learning methodologies. An important weakness of existing approaches, however, is that they generally rely on combining human and reservoir infection data during the training process and thus conflate risk attributable to the prevalence of the pathogen …

External Disruptions To Qualitative Data Collection: Addressing Risks Relating To Brexit And Researcher-Participant Rapport, Shukru Esmene, Nick Kirsop-Taylor
The Qualitative Report
In this paper we present the importance of detailing the contextual conditions of a qualitative study to highlight any potential participant-researcher tensions. We emphasize the importance of understanding context in rich detail to expose societal complexities while maintaining positive participant-research rapport. Through two cases, this paper considers that bracketing, reflexivity, and transparency can be applied to form appropriate strategies to deal with external disruptions to qualitative fieldwork. The cases draw on Brexit’s impact on two studies conducted in the United Kingdom. In so doing, we argue that time, relevance, and the individuals involved can coalesce to express varied influences on …
Environmental Conditions Associated With Natural Shade-Tolerant Conifer Regeneration In Forest Park, Portland, Oregon, Matt Cook
Urban Ecosystem Research Consortium of Portland/Vancouver
Forest Park is a 5,100-acre urban forest located in Portland Oregon. Due to its proximity to urban development the park has been impacted by various anthropogenic stressors including logging, fragmentation, invasive species, air pollution and recreation use. This legacy of land degradation coupled with natural disturbances has resulted in changes to forest structure, composition, and function—threatening the long-term sustainability of the park. Forest Park provides many ecosystem services, and the local community depends on its sustained ecological integrity. Past research in Forest Park had identified a lack of Western hemlock and Western red cedar seedlings and saplings in the most …

Data replications effectively replicate the same data to various multiple locations to accomplish the objective of zero loss of information in case of failures without any downtown. Dynamic data replication strategies (providing run time location of replicas) in clouds should optimize the key performance indicator parameters, like response time, reliability, availability, scalability, cost, availability, performance, etc. To fulfill these objectives, various state-of-the-art dynamic data replication strategies has been proposed, based on several criteria and reported in the literature along with advantages and disadvantages. This paper provides a quantitative analysis and performance evaluation of target-oriented replication strategies based on target objectives. …

Executive Summary
Changing climate and introduced species are placing an increasing number of species at risk of extinction. Increasing extinction risk is increasing calls to protect species by relocating, or translocating, them to locations with more favorable biotic or climatic conditions. Managed relocation, or assisted migration, of species entails risks to both the conservation target organisms being moved as well as the recipient ecosystems into which they are moved.
Recognizing this risk, calls have been made for practitioners interested in considering a managed relocation project to engage in a serious risk assessment prior to advancing a project. We engaged a …

Remittances, Ethnic Diversity, And Entrepreneurship In Developing Countries, Isil Yavuz, Berrak Bahadir
Economics Faculty Working Papers
This paper examines the moderating influence of home country ethnic diversity in the relationship between migrant remittances and new business creation in developing countries. By employing the theories of transaction cost, social network, social identity, and trust, we argue that ethnic diversity is negatively associated with new business creation; nevertheless, it strengthens the positive association between migrant remittances and new business creation in developing countries. We test our hypotheses on 64 developing countries over an 11-year period (2006-2016). This paper contributes to entrepreneurship literature by emphasizing the importance of home country ethnic diversity in channeling migrants’ remittances to new business …

A time‐series of yield monitor data may be used to identify field areas of consistently low or high yield to serve as productivity zones for site‐specific crop management. However, transient factors that affect yield in 1 yr, but not every year, detract from this approach. The objective of this study was to illustrate Moran eigenvector spatial filtering (MESF) with results from analysis of multi‐year crop yield data from two farm fields in the United States. The MESF method accounts for temporal autocorrelation within a common factor map representing the correlation across years and partitions stochastic geographic variation into spatially structured …
