Herbicide Screening In Industrial Hemp (Cannabis Sativa L.) Production, Joseph Eric Mettler
Herbicide Screening In Industrial Hemp (Cannabis Sativa L.) Production, Joseph Eric Mettler
Plant Sciences
Lack of labeled herbicides for industrial hemp (Cannabis sativa L.) production in the U.S. accentuates urgency to identify herbicides for weed control. Weed competition reduced seed yield by 25 to 32%. Pre- and post-emergence herbicide experiments were conducted to evaluate hemp tolerance to herbicides and support efforts for herbicide registrations. For post-emergence herbicides, hemp response to clopyralid (105 g ae ha-1) and bromoxynil (280 g ae ha-1) exhibited the lowest phytotoxicity, up to 38%, with no reduction of yield compared with the hand-weeded check. Pre-emergence herbicides were more viable options because pendimethalin (1120 g ai ha-1), trifluralin (840 g ai …
Sacrificing Legitimacy In A Hierarchical Judiciary, Tara Leigh Grove
Sacrificing Legitimacy In A Hierarchical Judiciary, Tara Leigh Grove
Essays, Reviews, and Shorter Works
Scholars have long worried about the legitimacy of the Supreme Court. But commentators have largely overlooked the inferior federal judiciary - and the potential tradeoffs between Supreme Court and lower court legitimacy. This Essay aims to call attention to those tradeoffs. When the Justices are asked to change the law in high-profile areas - such as abortion, affirmative action, or gun rights - they face a conundrum: To protect the legitimacy of the Court, the Justices may be reluctant to issue the broad precedents that will most effectively clarify the law - and thereby guide the lower courts. The Justices …

A Rising Tide Lifts All Consumers: Penumbras Of Foreign Data Protection Laws In The United States, Michael Goodyear
A Rising Tide Lifts All Consumers: Penumbras Of Foreign Data Protection Laws In The United States, Michael Goodyear
Articles & Chapters
With the growth of collecting, processing, and transferring personal information to third parties, consumers’ data is increasingly exposed to a myriad of risks. Perhaps chief among these are the data protection practices of data collectors themselves. Yet despite the risk to consumers, U.S. data protection law has remained fragmented, focused on individual industries at the federal law and only made comprehensive, occasionally, at the state level. This lack of a comprehensive data protection law in the United States is a significant detriment to the security of U.S. consumers. International law also offers no such path that could comprehensively protect U.S. …

Many human activities rely on accurate knowledge of the sea surface dynamics. This is especially true during storm events, when wave-current interactions might represent a leading order process of the upper ocean. In this study, we assess and analyze the impact of including three wave-dependent processes in the ocean momentum equation of the Met Office North West European Shelf ocean-wave forecasting system on the accuracy of the simulated surface circulation. The analysis is conducted using ocean currents and Stokes drift data produced by different implementations of the coupled forecasting systems to simulate the trajectories of surface (iSphere) and 15 m …

Behaviour Change Approaches For Individuals With Diabetes To Improve Foot Self-Management: A Scoping Review, Joanne Paton, Sally Abey, Phil Hendy, Jennifer Williams, Richard Collings, Lynne Callaghan
School of Health Professions
Abstract Background Diabetes related foot complications are increasing in complexity, frequency and cost. The application of self-management strategies can reduce the risk of individuals developing foot complications. The type, range and nature of the literature focusing on interventions that support patients with diabetic foot self-management is unknown. This scoping review aimed to i) identify self-management actions and risky behaviour avoidance strategies within interventions, ii) map the theoretical functions through which these behaviour change interventions have an effect, iii) display gaps in the research. Methodology Arksey and Malley’s (2003) 5 stage framework was followed to conduct the scoping study. This methodological …
The Effect Of Fatty Acid-Binding Protein 1 Gene Ablation On Brain And Liver Lipid Metabolism, Regan Clarice Lawrence
The Effect Of Fatty Acid-Binding Protein 1 Gene Ablation On Brain And Liver Lipid Metabolism, Regan Clarice Lawrence
Theses and Dissertations
Although studies in animal and cell culture systems have demonstrated the importance of liver fatty acid-binding protein (FABP1) in liver lipid metabolism, the impact of Fabp1 gene ablation on brain fatty acid uptake and lipid metabolism in intact animals is unknown. To address this, we assessed the effect of Fabp1 gene ablation on uptake and esterification of [1-14C]20:4n-6 into liver and brain lipids in vivo using a steady-state kinetic model. Plasma radioactivity was increased in Fabp1 gene-ablated mice, suggesting that loss of FABP1 impairs hepatic uptake of 20:4n-6. Indeed, liver uptake of [1-14C]20:4n-6 into aqueous and organic fractions was reduced. …

AbstractUltra high pressure (UHP) metamorphism observed in continental terranes implies that continental crust can subduct to ~40 kbar before exhuming to the surface. This process is one of the least understood and widely debated parts of the orogenic cycle. The dominantly felsic composition of UHP continental terranes means that many petrology‐based techniques for determining peak pressures and temperatures are often not possible. In such cases, the detection of UHP conditions depends on the preservation of coesite, a rarely preserved mineral in exhumed UHP terranes as it rapidly transforms to quartz on decompression. Consequently, the qualitative identification of palisade quartz microstructures …

Hyperhidrosis Disease Severity Measure-Axillary (Hdsm-Ax): Evaluation Of Measurement Performance, Jeremy Hobart, Laurie Burke, Brandon Kirsch, Deepak Chadha
Peninsula Medical School
Background: Clinical trials of primary axillary hyperhidrosis (AHH) require rigorous measurement of AHH severity from the patient’s perspective. Previously, we reported conceptualization and item content development for the Hyperhidrosis Disease Severity Measure-Axillary (HDSM-Ax) scale. Objective: To evaluate the psychometric performance and estimate clinically meaningful change scores for the HDSM-Ax in a Phase IIb clinical study of sofpironium bromide gel for AHH.Method: HDSM-Ax measurement performance was analyzed in trial response data using two psychometric paradigms: Classical Test and Rasch Measurement Theories (CTT; RMT). HDSM-Ax meaningful change scores were estimated from anchor-based methods using two global summary questions of hyperhidrosis severity and the …

Productive And Economic Analysis Of Silage Maize And Alfalfa Intercropping, Johanna Verushka Lukaschewsky
Plant Sciences
Intercropping of maize (Zea mays L.) and alfalfa (Medicago sativa L.) is not a commonpractice because alfalfa generally reduces maize grain and biomass yield. The objective of thisresearch was to evaluate the productivity and profitability of maize-alfalfa intercropping. Theexperiment was conducted in Fargo and Prosper, ND, from 2014 to 2017. The design was arandomized complete block design with four replicates and a split-plot arrangement. Treatmentswere: 1) maize monoculture, 2) maize intercropped with alfalfa, 3) maize intercropped withalfalfa + prohexadione, and 4) spring-seeded alfalfa (in 2015). Alfalfa established inintercropping with maize had almost double the forage yield in the following year …

Connectionless Edge-Cache Servers For Reducing Cellular Bandwidth Usage In Vehicular Networks, Rui Wang, Jayanthi Rao, Ce Zhou, Subir Biswas
Computer Science Faculty Research & Creative Works
This paper presents a novel caching mechanism based on Connectionless Edge Cache Servers in vehicular networks. The goal is to intelligently cache content within the vehicles and the edge servers so that majority of the vehiclerequested content can be obtained from those caches, thus minimizing the amount of cellular network usage needed for fetching content from a central server. A notable feature of the cache servers in this work is that they do not have backhaul connectivity. This makes the connectionless servers to be relatively less expensive compared to the usual Roadside Service Units (RSUs), and potentially moveable in response …

Listening To Other Voices: Moving Beyond Traditional Mission Histories- A Case Study From El Salvador, Robert A. Danielson, Kelly J. Godoy De Danielson
The Asbury Journal
For the most part, mission history has focused on the work and effort of missionaries and not as much on the missionized, those people and communities they assisted. this is a flaw in the field which needs to be corrected, but how do we accomplish this? This article proposes a two-step process. First, by closely reading the traditional histories and the primary documents, we can emphasize and highlight the roles and voices of the missionized. Second, by using oral history interviews we can capture essential thoughts and attitudes of missionized people and communities about their mission experience. This dual approach …
Lincoln Among The Methodists, Samuel J. Rogal
Lincoln Among The Methodists, Samuel J. Rogal
The Asbury Journal
While not a professed member of any religious denomination, the relationship between Abraham Lincoln and the Methodist Episcopal Church of his time is important, both in terms of their views on the abolition of slavery and the political rise of the number of Methodists in the United States. This article charts the course of that relationship from before Lincoln’s Presidency, his election campaign against Peter Cartwright ... this was when the rise of Methodism was to have serious implications politically because of thebrapid size, growth, and moral views of the church.

John Wesley On The Book Of Revelation, Külli Tõniste
John Wesley On The Book Of Revelation, Külli Tõniste
The Asbury Journal
This article focuses on how John Wesley interpreted the Book of Revelation, especially within his Explanatory Notes Upon the New Testament, published in late 1755. In particular, the central concern here is the interpretation of the middle of the book, especially chapter 12 of Revelation. Wesley does not approach the task of interpreting the Apocalypse lightly. He states that while the beginning and end of the book of Revelation are rather evident, he had for years been “utterly despairing” of understanding its intermediate parts. As a result, he relied heavily on the works of the German Lutheran Pietist theologian and …
