A Range Error Reduction Technique For Positioning Applications In Sports, Adnan Waqar, Iftekhar Ahmad, Daryoush Habibi, Quoc V. Phung
Research outputs 2014 to 2021
In recent times, ultra-wideband (UWB)-based positioning systems have become popular in sport performance monitoring. UWB positioning system uses time of arrival to calculate the range data between devices (i.e. anchors, tags), and then use trilateration algorithms to estimate position coordinates. In practical applications, non-line-of-sight transmissions and multipath propagations lead to inaccurate range data and lower positioning accuracy. This paper introduces a range error minimisation algorithm to address this limitation of error in range data in UWB-based positioning system. The proposed solution analyses the range error for each anchor and sequentially reduces this error based on the distance between each anchor …

Entrepreneurial Orientation Among Arts Managers In Western Australia, Alistair J. Campbell, Helen Rusak
Research outputs 2014 to 2021
As a region, Western Australia is the largest and most isolated state in Australia, and supports a community of vibrant Arts Organisations. The Arts is widely recognised for its creativity and innovation, but what about the managers of these organisations, are they equally innovative, or entrepreneurial? Rusak (2016) explored this question and found that their Entrepreneurial Orientation (EO) matched the three core dimensions of Innovativeness, Pro-activeness, and Risk-taking, but the study did not include the other two EO dimensions of Autonomy and Competitive Aggressiveness. It did however observe that "arts companies don’t generally try to take offensive postures or aggressive …

Employability skills can be categorised as ‘people’ or ‘soft skills’ and ‘technical’ or ‘industry specific’ skills. Australian employers are increasingly seeking to employ university graduates with well-developed people skills. Evidence from industry suggests these skills, in particular communication skills are lacking in today’s graduates. The aim of this study was to raise student awareness of the importance of people skills, assess their perception of personal competence across a range of these skills and support them to develop plans that will help them strengthen these skills in preparation for graduation. An online survey was emailed to 222 first year undergraduate students; …

Positive Drug Stories: Possibilities For Agency And Positive Subjectivity For Harm Reduction, Liam B. Engel, Stephen J. Bright, Monica J. Barratt, Matthew M. Allen
Research outputs 2014 to 2021
People who use drugs understand drugs and drug use in ways that are often different to the way knowledge of drug use is constructed within the dominant medico-legal discourse. Their experiences are, more often than not, represented in negative ways within dominant discourse, a disconnect that can create adverse consequences for people who use drugs, through the production of stigma and shame leading to poor health and social outcomes. A key difference in how drugs are understood by people who use drugs is the capacity of the former to recognize positive aspects of drug use and create more agentic subjectivities …

Short Word-Length Entering Compressive Sensing Domain: Improved Energy Efficiency In Wireless Sensor Networks, Nuha A. S. Alwan, Zahir M. Hussain
Research outputs 2014 to 2021
This work combines compressive sensing and short word-length techniques to achieve localization and target tracking in wireless sensor networks with energy-efficient communication between the network anchors and the fusion center. Gradient descent localization is performed using time-of-arrival (TOA) data which are indicative of the distance between anchors and the target thereby achieving range-based localization. The short word-length techniques considered are delta modulation and sigma-delta modulation. The energy efficiency is due to the reduction of the data volume transmitted from anchors to the fusion center by employing any of the two delta modulation variants with compressive sensing techniques. Delta modulation allows …

Assessing The Applicability Of Three Approaches To Design-Oriented Research, Jing Zhou, Christopher Kueh, Yi Lin
Research outputs 2014 to 2021
The three main approaches in inquisitive research design are qualitative, quantitative, and mixed methods [1]. However, recent developments in the research field have resulted in multiple other approaches, borrowing ideas from a broad range of fields. One such approach is the practice-led approach. This approach involves an efficient design process, novel qualitative interviewing methods, together with data mining procedures from quantitative data collection [2]. This paper assesses the practice-led approach used in user experience (UX) design, together with three approaches: co-design, service design, and reflective practice.

Physical exercise is increasingly recognized as a valuable treatment strategy in managing prostate cancer, not only enhancing supportive care but potentially influencing disease outcomes. However, there are limited studies investigating mechanisms of the tumor-suppressive effect of exercise. Recently, extracellular vesicles (EVs) have been recognized as a therapeutic target for cancer as tumor-derived EVs have the potential to promote metastatic capacity by transferring oncogenic proteins, integrins, and microRNAs to other cells and EVs are also involved in developing drug resistance. Skeletal muscle has been identified as an endocrine organ, releasing EVs into the circulation, and levels of EV-containing factors have been …
