Comparison Of Summer Forages And The Effect Of Nitrogen Fertilizers On Brassica Forages In Tasmania, A. A. Salardini, R. J. Eckard, D. R. Franks

IGC Proceedings (1977-2023)

Summer forage crops, and in particular Brassica spp., have become increasingly popular in dairy production systems in Tasmania. Field experiments were conducted for 3 years in northwestern Tasmania, in the spring/summers beginning in 1995. The study aimed to compare yield and quality of Brassica and Poaceae forages and the response of Brassica species to nitrogen (N) (50, 100 and 200 kg N/ha) and irrigation.

The average total yields of dryland (rainfed) crops in 1995 to 1997 experiments, were turnip (Brassica rapa) 9.3 t/ha, rape (B. napus) 5.9 t/ha, oats (Aevena sativa) 5.2 t/ha, kale …

Maturity And Fertilization Effects On Leaf Blade Tissue Percentages Of Contrasting Fescue Cultivars, L. B. Tempone, M. S. Cid, M. A. Brizuela, M. C. Nunciari, M. G. Cendoya

IGC Proceedings (1977-2023)

Palenque Plus and Ceres Torpedo are tall fescue (Festuca arundinacea Schreb.) cultivars available to the animal production systems in the humid Pampean Region of Argentina. They differ in growth cycle and morphological characteristics. At vegetative stage, Torpedo leaves are fine and tender, which suggests that their percentages of slowly digestible and indigestible tissues (SDIT) should be low. In this study we 1) explored the effects of phenological stage and nitrogen fertilization on leaf blade tissue percentages of both cultivars, using an ordination multivariate technique, and 2) evaluated the effects of these factors on the percentage of SDIT. Our results …

Different Harvest Schedules To Prepare Deferred Forage From C4 Grasses In Córdoba, Argentina, M. R. Steinberg, E. F. Nienstedt, H. A. Valdez, J. C. Coraglio, C. A. Vieyra, P. A. Minuzzi

IGC Proceedings (1977-2023)

From 1995 until 1999 a trial was done in the fields of the Universidad Nacional de Córdoba with four C4 forage grasses. These fields lie in the subtropical and semiarid region of Argentina. This research aimed to identify forage species that could be used as deferred forage for the drier and cooler winter season. Four species of C4 grasses were used: Rhodesgrass (Chloris gayana Kunth), Gatton (Panicum maximum), coloratum (Panicum coloratum) and digitgrass (Digitaria eriantha), respectively. Two growing periods were used: full season growth (FS) and half season regrowth (HS), in both cases …

Analysis And Performance Of Hydro Generation Of Electricity From Small Hydropower Plants, Vehebi Sofiu, Sami Gashi, Muhaxherin Sofiu

UBT International Conference

The application of the latest technology in HPPs of the Dragash region and the generation benefits with multifunctional approach enable sustainable operation of generators with full efficiency in the environment where it is part of this research. Exploitation of energy resources from renewables, particularly the utilization of hydro resources through engineering works called hydropower plants today is of particular importance not only nationwide but also wider. Electricity represents one of the most eminent and underlying sources of human activities. Energy sources are different, as are the modes, equipment and plants for its generation. Indeed the geographical position and the influence …

Qualitative Impact Assessment Of A Conditional Cash Transfer Program In A Central Philippine Community, Abgel L. Lalamonan, Sheena Mae T. Comighud Oct 2021

Qualitative Impact Assessment Of A Conditional Cash Transfer Program In A Central Philippine Community, Abgel L. Lalamonan, Sheena Mae T. Comighud

UBT International Conference

This study utilizes the narratives of beneficiaries in the evaluation of a conditional cash transfer program. Guided by the theory that narratives bridges the objectives of the program and its impact, these narratives contain the themes describing both ends. Moreover, most of the participatory assessments did not utilize beneficiaries’ narratives in the evaluation process. The utilization of narratives was done through the participatory approach. This study demonstrates that assessment of projects through narratives is feasible. It is found out that beneficiaries adopt an eclectic stance in their participation and acceptance of activities implemented by the program.

Tidal And Wave Energy: A Viability Overview, Visar Bejta Oct 2021

Tidal And Wave Energy: A Viability Overview, Visar Bejta

UBT International Conference

The global quiescent capacity of tidal energy is utterly prodigious. A potential wide-ranging output of electric power from thalassic tideway and waves — besides the inherent wind resource — is appealing as it provides, amongst other things, adequate grounds for an industrial viability analysis. Apropos, in recent years, vast improvements have been observed in the domain of tidal energy exploitation. Furthermore, economic viability is gradually gaining ground in a process that comprises considerable funding from sphere trendsetters and frontrunners. Palpable technical development, besides the favorable treatment from the communications industry, has boosted the validity of this particular renewable energy arrangement.

Evaluation A Renal Function Of Patients With Medication-Overuse Headache (Moh), Drita Yzeiri Havziu

UBT International Conference

Excessive drug use causes Medication-overuse headache (MOH) which can be manifested with chronic daily headaches, occurring monthly 15 or more days when the medicament is used redundantly for more than three months. Recent studies concerning the epidemiology of drug-induced disorders suggest that an increased risk of nephrotoxicity appears in a group of patients who abuse NSAIDs. The aim is to confirm the early phase of nephrotoxicity in patients with (MOH), who were treated with NSAIDs in combination with other drugs (analgesics, triptans, and antidepressants) and compared patients treated only with Diclofenac, Piroxicam, Ketoprofen, Paracetamol, Ibuprofen, and Celecoxib. Besides conventional markers …

Publications and Research

This study aimed to evaluate the status of dietary diversity and nutrient intake among Han and Dongxiang smallholder farmers in poor rural areas of northwest China. In this cross-sectional study, dietary intake was assessed in 499 smallholder farmers aged 18–75 years from two nationally designated impoverished counties in Gansu Province, China, using three consecutive 24 h dietary recalls. The dietary diversity score (DDS) and nutrient adequacy ratio (NAR) were adopted to assess dietary diversity and micronutrient adequacy, respectively. The mean DDS (range from 1 to 9) in participants was relatively low (3.81 ± 1.01). Consumption of grains was excessive, while …

Racial Captialism And Race Massacres: Tulsa's Black Wall Street And Elaine's Sharecroppers, André Douglas Pond Cummings, Kalvin Graham

Law Faculty Scholarship

United States history is marked and checkered with grievous race massacres dating back to the end of slavery. These race “riots,” as they are benignly referred to in some quarters, occurred infamously in Tulsa, Elaine, Rosewood, Chicago, Detroit, and so many other lesser remembered cities. The starkest period of race massacres in the United States, including each of those just mentioned, occurred in the early 1900s, between 1919 and 1923 when Black Americans, newly empowered by service in a world war and having gained available land grants in territories where indigenous peoples were forced to abandon, began finding economic and …
