Insulin Autoimmune Syndrome: A Rare Cause Of Spontaneous Hypoglycaemia In Non-Diabetic Individuals, Shruthi Ravindra, Sahana Shetty Dec 2020

Insulin Autoimmune Syndrome: A Rare Cause Of Spontaneous Hypoglycaemia In Non-Diabetic Individuals, Shruthi Ravindra, Sahana Shetty

Open Access archive

Insulin autoimmune syndrome (IAS) is a rare cause of hypoglycaemia, characterised by recurrent hypoglycaemic episodes secondary to insulin autoantibodies in individuals who are not exposed to exogenous insulin. We are reporting a case of IAS in a 64-year-old gentleman, who presented with predominant postprandial hypoglycaemic episodes. On biochemical evaluation, he was found to have hyperinsulinemic hypoglycaemia. Localisation studies with MRI abdomen and endoscopic ultrasound (EUS) were negative for pancreatic tumour. Tests sent for insulin antibody levels were elevated. The patient was treated with frequent meals, acarbose and glucocorticoids. Patient condition improved and did not experience hypoglycaemia on follow-up.

A Study To Determine The Relationships Among Grit, Engagement, And Student Achievement, Jill Dennison Dec 2020

A Study To Determine The Relationships Among Grit, Engagement, And Student Achievement, Jill Dennison

Dissertations

In the absence of high quality and impact interventions, undesirable consequences of poverty will be seen to fruition. In this study, the Golden Circle business model (Sinek et al., 2017) served as the framework to understand how students’ grit, engagement, and achievement are related in Title I elementary schools. The purpose of this study was to determine if there is a relationship between grit and engagement, engagement and student achievement, and finally grit and student achievement. The relationship between grit and engagement was measured by teacher and student perceptions, respectively. Student engagement and achievement were analyzed using student self-perceptions of …

Coming Out Of The Shadows: Understanding Autism In Korean Culture, Yoojin Kim Dec 2020

Coming Out Of The Shadows: Understanding Autism In Korean Culture, Yoojin Kim

Theses and Dissertations

Culture affects how the symptoms of Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) are perceived and addressed, and Korean culture has been affecting how individuals with ASD are perceived, diagnosed and treated in Korea, specifically the Republic of Korea. Stigmas about individuals with ASD have historically existed in Korean culture, and those stigmas have been affecting the diagnosis and social environment of individuals with ASD. Recent changes have been made to increase acceptance for individuals with ASD in Korea, but the literature has not yet brought this information together in a way that comprehensively portrays the current status of ASD perceptions, identification, intervention …

Methods For Generative Adversarial Output Enhancement, Michael B. Brodie Dec 2020

Methods For Generative Adversarial Output Enhancement, Michael B. Brodie

Theses and Dissertations

Generative Adversarial Networks (GAN) learn to synthesize novel samples for a given data distribution. While GANs can train on diverse data of various modalities, the most successful use cases to date apply GANs to computer vision tasks. Despite significant advances in training algorithms and network architectures, GANs still struggle to consistently generate high-quality outputs after training. We present a series of papers that improve GAN output inference qualitatively and quantitatively. The first chapter, Alpha Model Domination, addresses a related subfield of Multiple Choice Learning, which -- like GANs -- aims to generate diverse sets of outputs. The next chapter, CoachGAN, …

KIP Articles

The origin of funerary practices has important implications for the emergence of so-called modern cognitive capacities and behaviour. We provide new multidisciplinary information on the archaeological context of the La Ferrassie 8 Neandertal skeleton ( grand abri of La Ferrassie, Dordogne, France), including geochronological data - 14 C and OSL-, ZooMS and ancient DNA data, geological and stratigraphic information from the surrounding context, complete taphonomic study of the skeleton and associated remains, spatial information from the 1968–1973 excavations, and new (2014) fieldwork data. Our results show that a pit was dug in a sterile sediment layer and the corpse of …
