For a variety of reasons (including, for example, increasing cyber security threats, increased network heterogeneity, the increased use of virtualization technologies, etc.) maintaining the fifth generation (5G) networks of tomorrow will be challenging. To address such challenges techniques are presented herein that support a multivariate time series unsupervised method for anomaly detection using Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) that are derived from various infrastructure level metrics collected from all kinds of networking nodes deployed in 5G networks. Multivariate time series unsupervised anomaly detection is the future of anomaly detection with systems generating real-time time series data but this is an area …
Gesture Disambiguation In Operating Systems, Jaeheon Yi
Gesture Disambiguation In Operating Systems, Jaeheon Yi
Defensive Publications Series
A visual operating system features multiple simultaneous clients displayed over a system user interface (UI). Examples of simultaneous clients are the accessibility client, the system UI, browsers, map-applications, etc. A touch gesture made by the user can be intended to be directed towards any one of the clients. However, in an architecture where no single component or client has global knowledge or ownership of all gestures, the client towards which the gesture should be directed is sometimes unclear. This disclosure describes techniques to disambiguate user gestures which can be incorporated in an operating system. The techniques enable simultaneously-running clients to …

The Effects Of The Covid-19 Pandemic On Humanitarian Aid Operations In Jordan, Hana Driss
Capstone Collection
Abstract
This is a qualitative descriptive exploratory study on the effects of humanitarian aid operations during the onset of Covid-19 through the perspective of aid workers in Jordan. The kingdom of Jordan was chosen for this study due to the country’s place as a humanitarian oasis in a region in crisis and to the government mandating one of the strictest lockdowns in the world in response to Covid-19. These measures closed borders and completely halted inter-city travel within Jordan, making the delivery of aid to refugees and inaccessible communities difficult. Ten participants were contacted and interviewed for this study. Each …

Central Asian Journal of Education
The article deals with the expression of connotation in the English and Uzbek literary texts proceeding from the pragmatic approach to the analysis. In the paper the utterances selected from the English and Uzbek literary texts manifest the expression of various shades of connotation on the phonetic, phonological, lexical, morphological and syntactical levels of the language. The analysis of the English and Uzbek literary texts shows that in spite of the fact that English and Uzbek languages belong to different typological systems and different genealogical families there are a lot of common similarities in expressing connotation. On the basis of …

What Factors Contribute To The Turnover Rate In The Field Of Early Childhood Education?, Paige Novey
What Factors Contribute To The Turnover Rate In The Field Of Early Childhood Education?, Paige Novey
Graduate Teacher Education
Approximately 27 percent of early childhood professionals leave positions or the field entirely on an annual basis (McMullen, Lee, McCormick, & Choi, 2020). Although the majority of early childhood educators report that the work is valuable and meaningful, other stressors are driving nearly a third of the field to seek other opportunities. These stressors include low compensation, lack of benefits, and poor work conditions. With nearly twelve million infants, toddlers, and preschoolers participating in early childhood programming, their experiences are impacted by this high turnover rate. In comparison, elementary educators experience an annual turnover rate of seven to eight percent …

How Does Child Maltreatment Impact Social Emotional Development In Children Under Five?, Jazmine Fennig
Graduate Teacher Education
Research examined in this paper found that children under the age of five years old who are victims of child maltreatment, can display hindered development in social emotional behavioral domains. Being that the brain develops so rapidly and is fragile during this age, there is a plethora of developmental, mental struggles, personal struggles, and complications that children can face during the remaining years of childhood, adolescence, and adulthood as a result (Campbell, Walker, & Egede, 2016; Kahr Nilsson, Landorph, Houmann, Olsen & Skovgaard, 2019; & McKelvey, Edge, Mesman, Whiteside-Mansell & Bradley, 2018). Effects can range from short term to long …

Agricultural and Environmental Sciences Faculty Research
Conversion of food waste into 2,3-butanediol (2,3-BDO) via microbial fermentation provides a promising way to reduce waste disposal to landfills and produce sustainable chemicals. However, sterilization of food waste, an energy- and capital-costly process, is generally required before fermentation to avoid any contamination, which reduces the energy net output and economic feasibility of food waste fermentation. In this study, we investigated the non-sterile fermentation of food waste to produce 2,3-BDO using a newly isolated thermophilic and alkaliphilic B. licheniformis YNP5-TSU. Three unitary food waste samples (i.e., pepper, pineapple, cabbage wastes) and one miscellaneous food waste mixture were respectively inoculated with …

Something To Believe In, Carter Macdonald, Amma Christiansen, Robin Curry, Sabrina Owens
Fall Student Research Symposium 2020
When interpreted as a whole, Emily Dickinson's manuscript booklets of writing, or fascicles, offer insight into individual poems. As many scholars have speculated, Dickinson expresses religious ideas with experimental instability. The collection of poems on fascicle five, sheet three, demonstrate an anticipation of life exalted after death. For example, "As Watchers hang upon the East -" changes from a hopeful poem about the afterlife, to a questioning one that encourages the reader to remain critical of religion. In this poem, there is mention of a beggar who, while pondering death, looks forward to the prospect of a heavenly 'feast' promised …
