Creating Trauma Sensitive Classroom In The Early Childhood Setting, Janelle Elke
Creating Trauma Sensitive Classroom In The Early Childhood Setting, Janelle Elke
Dissertations, Theses, and Projects
The purpose of this study is to ensure that our early childhood classrooms are trauma sensitive for our students that have been exposed or are experiencing trauma. Roughly 26 percent of children in the United States witness or experience a trauma before the age of 4( Briggs- Gowan et al.2010). The study was conducted in three different phases. In the first phase, data was collected on what strategies are presently implemented for students who have been exposed to trauma. In the second phase, strategies, techniques and tools were introduced to help during stressful situations that happened during class. In the …
Mass And Heat Transfer Characteristics For Laminar Flow In A Sharp 180° Turn., M. Mohamed
Mass And Heat Transfer Characteristics For Laminar Flow In A Sharp 180° Turn., M. Mohamed
Mansoura Engineering Journal
Numerical studies of laminar flow and heat transfer around a sharp 180° turn, of especial relevance to electronic systems, are made. Two-dimensional unsteady simulations are considered because of the high geometrical aspect ratios (AR > 5) occurring in the practical application. A high-order time-accurate finite volume scheme was used to solve unsteady incompressible Navier-Stokes and energy equations. Simulations are performed for 50 ≤ Re ≤1000. Predictions show that the sharp tum flow remains steady up to Re ≤ 600. In this steady regime, the re-attachment length increases gradually with the Reynolds number. However, a further increase in the Reynolds number gives …
Staged Combustion Of Rice Straw In A Fluidized Bed., Farouk Okasha
Staged Combustion Of Rice Straw In A Fluidized Bed., Farouk Okasha
Mansoura Engineering Journal
Staged combustion of rice straw has been investigated using a fluidized bed combustor of 300 mm ID and 3300 mm height. With air staging, secondary air is fed higher up in the freeboard at 1500 mom above the distributor of primary air. Rice straw is fed as cylindrical pellets with 12 mm diameter and 10 mm length, The obtained results indicate that staged combustion is an effective way to reduce NOX emissions, in particular, at higher operating temperatures. NO, typically reduces by 50% when secondary air ratio becomes 30% at 850°C bed temperature. Staged operation has a slight, non-monotonic effect …
Induced Flow In Coaxial Rotor Systems, Andrew Bergantz
Induced Flow In Coaxial Rotor Systems, Andrew Bergantz
Mechanical Engineering and Materials Science Independent Study
In coaxial rotor helicopter systems, both rotors of the helicopter spin in opposite directions on the same vertical axis, requiring the bottom rotor to spin faster with a higher blade pitch angle and the top rotor to spin slower with a lower blade pitch angle. This was proven by Peters and Seidel [1]. As both blades are spinning, there is an induced flow of air between the rotors. The solution of the potential flow equations shows that the flow induced by the upper rotor on the lower is related to the adjoint velocity above the rotors and the time delays …

: The Black Sea region has strategic geopolitical importance where the routes of Europe, the Caucasus, Asia, and the Middle East intersect. Ensuring stability and security in the Black Sea area is essential for emerging new security architecture. In search of balance, the challenges are met by the Three Seas Initiative (3SI) and the deepening of strategic relations with the United Arab Emirates. The UAE, anchored in the Euro-Atlantic partnership and with extensive influence, emerges as an interesting strategic partner. When analysing the Three Seas Initiative, it should be noted that the United States of America joined the implementation of …

This report is the final product of my Social Journalism practicum for the Class of 2020 at the Craig Newmark Graduate School of Journalism. My community focus for the degree program was homeowners working to protect their homes and preserve affordability in East New York, Brooklyn, as well as the broader community of tenants working to protect and stay in their homes in New York City during the COVID-19 pandemic. This report explores how community engagement can reframe housing coverage as a basic human need that is a part of a community, and not just a commodity. Within this report, …

The transition from prison to the harsh realities of New York City is seldom easy. Finding employment and housing is always a huge challenge but in 2020 COVID-19 has shadowed the incarcerated. As returning New Yorkers, their stories are unique. Ironically, the added obstacles they face have also brought them benefits in the form of the housing they need to survive during a deadly pandemic.

Indigenous Communities in the United States have historically been underserved by traditional mainstream news outlets. To fill this gap, many tribes created their own radio, television and print newsrooms to cover local politics and events, but between Supreme Court rulings and tribal law the press often falls under the influence of tribal governments that hold the purse and editorial strings. In the Muscogee (Creek) Nation of Oklahoma, this was true. Their official news outlet, Mvskoke Media, fought to be independent of the government they cover for over a decade. Twice they succeeded. Twice they were under the thumb of censorship. …

INTRODUCTION: Delirium is a potentially preventable disorder characterised by acute disturbances in attention and cognition with fluctuating severity. Postoperative delirium is associated with prolonged intensive care unit and hospital stay, cognitive decline and mortality. The development of biomarkers for tracking delirium could potentially aid in the early detection, mitigation and assessment of response to interventions. Because sleep disruption has been posited as a contributor to the development of this syndrome, expression of abnormal electroencephalography (EEG) patterns during sleep and wakefulness may be informative. Here we hypothesise that abnormal EEG patterns of sleep and wakefulness may serve as predictive and diagnostic …

Lymphatic vasculature is an integral part of digestive, immune and circulatory systems. The homeobox transcription factor PROX1 is necessary for the development of lymphatic vessels, lymphatic valves (LVs) and lymphovenous valves (LVVs). We and others previously reported a feedback loop between PROX1 and vascular endothelial growth factor-C (VEGF-C) signaling. PROX1 promotes the expression of the VEGF-C receptor VEGFR3 in lymphatic endothelial cells (LECs). In turn, VEGF-C signaling maintains PROX1 expression in LECs. However, the mechanisms of PROX1/VEGF-C feedback loop remain poorly understood. Whether VEGF-C signaling is necessary for LV and LVV development is also unknown. Here, we report for the …

Affordable housing is an issue that plagues 10’s of millions of Americans in the United States.
In Connecticut, decades of predatory zoning laws that differ from city to city and a broken public housing system has created a state with concentrated pockets of wealth and poverty that disproportionately affects people of color. Connecticut has an opportunity to change its decidedly unliberal policies by taking notes from Japan’s Zoning laws, that enable mixed-income families to live side by side, and activists like Connecticut’s very own Ned Coll, who fought for free and open beaches in the state in the '60's and …

Black restaurant owners are among the hardest hit by the pandemic in NYC. They are twice as likely not to survive the outbreak, and that is primarily due to institutional racism that was present well before the coronavirus hit the U.S.
Black restauranters benefited less from government programs, have had a harder time accessing funding and say they are left out of many mentorship opportunities. Meanwhile, their patrons face economic uncertainty and are curbing discretionary spending.
Many haven’t been able to pay rent and face commercial eviction. Others say the doors are still open thanks to a flood of support …

In January 2020, congress passed the PIRATE Act into law, expanding the legal consequences for operating pirate radio tenfold. Although the FCC claims that the reason they are cracking down on pirate stations — that is, stations broadcasting on regulated airwaves without an FCC license — is that they could interfere with emergency messaging, the pandemic has proven otherwise; there is no evidence of pirates interfering with official safety warnings. In fact, most pirate stations are run by immigrants speaking in their native tongue and they have been able to provide vulnerable and underserved communities with the information they need …
