The Absence Of Asterisks: The Inclusive Church And Children With Disabilities, Erik W. Carter
The Absence Of Asterisks: The Inclusive Church And Children With Disabilities, Erik W. Carter
Journal of Catholic Education
Congregations are called to be communities of belonging. Yet, many churches struggle to meaningfully include children with disabilities and their families in all aspects of parish life. This article addresses 10 dimensions of belonging and their relevance to the inclusion of individuals with disabilities in their faith communities. To belong involves being present, invited, welcomed, known, accepted, cared for, supported, befriended, needed, and loved (Carter, Biggs, & Boehm, 2016). I address the importance of each of these areas, highlight relevant research, and suggest areas for reflection and response.

A Water Budget And Solute Flux Budget For Waimea River Watershed, Kauai, Hi, U.S.A., Joseph Harold Tolworthy
A Water Budget And Solute Flux Budget For Waimea River Watershed, Kauai, Hi, U.S.A., Joseph Harold Tolworthy
Theses and Dissertations
Waimea Canyon is a deep V-shaped canyon on the island of Kauai, Hawaii in which the Waimea River and its tributaries flow. The shape and size of the canyon are noteworthy and unusual compared to its contemporary canyons on the Hawaiian Islands which are usually U-shaped or flat bottomed. This could be because there is significantly more physical erosion in Waimea Canyon compared to others. A water budget was created using ArcGIS Pro and data from the University of Hawaii’s rainfall and evapotranspiration atlases, as well as from the United States Geological Survey’s stream gage data. A mass flux was …

Towards Culture-Oriented Medical Philosophy, Education, Research And Practice, Nasser H. Al-Azri
Sultan Qaboos University Medical Journal
Medicine is a sociotechnical system wherein culture manifests itself in all its aspects. Culture, however, is often intangible and is frequently neglected in formal healthcare education, research and practice. This sounding board article attempts to generate interest in making culture a serious component of healthcare systems at different levels, including its founding philosophical underpinnings, educational systems, research activities and clinical practice. It is recommended that a framework of culture-oriented medical philosophy, education, research and practice be implemented. Each component of this framework is briefly discussed in relation to healthcare. Culture should be reflected explicitly in healthcare through research activities, medical …

Development Of Rutting Prediction Model For Paving Mixes Using Creep Test., Mohamed Abdel-Motaleh
Development Of Rutting Prediction Model For Paving Mixes Using Creep Test., Mohamed Abdel-Motaleh
Mansoura Engineering Journal
Rutting phenomena in asphalt pavement is a complicated problem: because of the overlapping of many factors causing it. So, many methods have been proposed to assess rutting resistance of paving mixes. Among those proposed methods, the static creep test represents the most promising one for this purpose in Egypt. The test is typically conducted at 40°C for at least one hour. Hanging up the test for a long period at elevated temperature may be difficult for routine laboratory mix design in Egypt. So, the current study is primarily concerned with simplifying a technique that can be used in mix design …

Estimating Posterior Quantity Of Interest Expectations In A Multilevel Scalable Framework, Hillary R. Fairbanks, Sarah Osborn, Panayot S. Vassilevski
Mathematics and Statistics Faculty Publications and Presentations
Scalable approaches for uncertainty quantification are necessary for characterizing prediction confidence in large‐scale subsurface flow simulations with uncertain permeability. To this end we explore a multilevel Monte Carlo approach for estimating posterior moments of a particular quantity of interest, where we employ an element‐agglomerated algebraic multigrid (AMG) technique to generate the hierarchy of coarse spaces with guaranteed approximation properties for both the generation of spatially correlated random fields and the forward simulation of Darcy's law to model subsurface flow. In both these components (sampling and forward solves), we exploit solvers that rely on state‐of‐the‐art scalable AMG. To showcase the applicability …

Physics & Astronomy Faculty Publications
We present time-of-arrival (TOA) measurements and timing models of 47 millisecond pulsars observed from 2004 to 2017 at the Arecibo Observatory and the Green Bank Telescope by the North American Nanohertz Observatory for Gravitational Waves (NANOGrav). The observing cadence was three to four weeks for most pulsars over most of this time span, with weekly observations of six sources. These data were collected for use in low-frequency gravitational wave searches and for other astrophysical purposes. We detail our observational methods and present a set of TOA measurements, based on "narrowband" analysis, in which many TOAs are calculated within narrow radio-frequency …
