The lateral ventricular perimeter (LVP) of the brain is a critical region because in addition to housing neural stem cells required for brain development, it facilitates cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) bulk flow and functions as a blood-CSF barrier to protect periventricular white matter (PVWM) and other adjacent regions from injurious toxins. LVP injury is common, particularly among preterm infants who sustain intraventricular hemorrhage or post hemorrhagic hydrocephalus and has been associated with poor neurological outcomes. BACKGROUND: Implementing and sustaining evidence-based programs with fidelity may require multiple implementation strategies tailored to address multi-level, context-specific barriers and facilitators. Ideally, selecting and tailoring implementation strategies should be guided by theory, evidence, and input from relevant stakeholders; however, methods to guide the selection and tailoring of strategies are not well-developed. There is a need for more rigorous methods for assessing and prioritizing implementation determinants (barriers and facilitators) and linking implementation strategies to determinants. The Collaborative Organizational Approach to Selecting and Tailoring Implementation Strategies (COAST-IS) is an intervention designed to increase the effectiveness of evidence-based practice implementation and sustainment. CSR practices continue to grow as a promising alternative development resource, yet still predominantly charitable in nature, preventing them from optimal community empowerment. Therefore, studies and policies at the national and global levels remain in search of the best format to optimize CSR programs’ role in community empowerment. This dissertation looks into the violent, self-serving legal (neocolonial) order that revolves around wealth accumulation and the defense and sustainability of the status quo. The starting point and core idea that guides my discussion is the “redemptive” ideological framework and commitment to free market economies and profit-making. Campylobacter species have developed resistance to existing antibiotics. The development of alternative therapies is, therefore, a necessity. This study evaluates the susceptibility of Campylobacter strains to selected natural products (NPs) and frontline antibiotics. Two C. jejuni strains (ATCC® 33560TM and MT947450) and two C. coli strains (ATCC® 33559TM and MT947451) were used. The antimicrobial potential of the NPs, including plant extracts, essential oils, and pure phytochemicals, was evaluated by broth microdilution. The growth was measured by spectrophotometry and iodonitrotetrazolium chloride. Antibiotic resistance genes (tet(O) and gyrA) were characterized at the molecular level. The Eastern Thrace and Western Black Sea basins provide unique perspectives on the palaeogeographic reconstructions of the Paratethys. Although very thick and extensive Oligocene outcrops and well sections exist in the Thrace Basin, only a few comparable sections are available in the Black Sea onshore areas. In this study, five measured stratigraphic sections of Eocene to Oligocene age from the margins of the Western Black Sea were studied and palynomorph assemblages were identified quantitatively. Index dinoflagellate cyst events and a palynological biozonation as established in the Mediterranean were applied successfully. The rock assemblages of the Princes? Islands, which are located to the south of mainland İstanbul, are regarded as parts of the Lower Paleozoic quartz sandstones, although they were initially considered as volcanic rocks by Swan in 1868. They differ from quartz sandstones by their vesicular texture and are devoid of any stratigraphic layering. Their mineral constituents are plagioclase (30%-35%), feldspar (35%-40%), and quartz (20%-25%), corresponding to rhyolite. The crystallization age of the rhyolites is 45.66 ± 0.84 Ma on the basis of the U-Pb zircon data. They show high-K calc-alkaline affinity. Advancing technologies are increasingly able to fully or partially automate job tasks. These technologies range from robotics to machine learning and other forms of artificial intelligence, and are being adopted across many sectors of the economy. Applications range from selecting job applicants for interviewing, picking orders in a warehouse, interpreting X-rays to diagnose disease, and automated customer service. These developments have raised concern that workers are being displaced by advancing automation technology. Although often considered only a medical problem, antimicrobial resistance is an evolutionary challenge accelerated by social, cultural and economic factors that lead to the misuse, overuse and abuse of life-saving antimicrobial medicines. The antimicrobial resistance challenge is compounded by inadequate attention to disease prevention and response, global circulation of people and products, differences in industry and market regulations across countries, and a fragile pipeline of new antibiotics and their alternatives. While the discovery of new antimicrobials will provide temporary solutions, sustainable success requires rigorous social science research that explores the drivers of antimicrobial resistance. Third-party funding indisputably puts a gold-weighted thumb on the scales of justice in favor of funded parties for two main reasons: (1) funded cases already tend to be calculable winners on the merits, and (2) third-party funders seeking a profit generally do not fund cases that are demonstrably likely to lose on the merits. Thus, we are left with both the promising potential for winners to be more likely to win with third-party funding and the alarming realization that not all winners are offered this same chance. The SUPPORT study of extremely premature newborns seems likely to go down as one of the most controversial studies of the 21st century (SUPPORT Study Group 2010). We previously suggested that the researchers in SUPPORT were "legally blind" in failing to understand that the "standard" that defines the content of informed consent is set by law, including the federal regulations, not by what physicians "usually" do or don't do (Annas and Annas 2013). THE United States Supreme Court's decision in Cruzan v. Director, Missouri Department of Health marks its thirtieth anniversary in 2020.' This follows closely after the fiftieth anniversary of the Apollo 11 moon landing.2 Anniversaries provide an opportunity for reflection and to gain perspective. In his 2019 book, Birth Rights and Wrongs: How Medicine and Technology are Remaking Reproduction and the Law, Dov Fox offers a compelling argument for new torts allowing recovery for wrongful reproduction. These torts would include three sorts of cases, those where wrongdoing (whether negligent, reckless, or intentional) caused undesired reproduction; stymied desired reproduction; or confounded reproduction, causing birth of a child different than that intended by the parents. The likely defendants in these torts are gynecologists, urologists, sperm banks, and IVF clinics.

People convicted of violent crimes constitute a majority of the imprisoned population but are generally ignored by existing policies aimed at reducing mass incarceration. Serious efforts to shrink the large footprint of the prison system will need to recognize this fact. This point is especially pressing at the time of this writing, as states and the federal system consider large-scale prison releases motivated by the COVID-19 pandemic. Those convicted of violent crimes constitute a large majority of older prisoners, who are extremely vulnerable to the spread of the virus behind bars. While federal health reform sputters, states have begun to pursue their own transformative strategies for achieving universal coverage, the most ambitious of which are state-based single-payer plans. Since the passage of the Affordable Care Act in 2010, legislators in twenty-one states have proposed sixty-six unique bills to establish single-payer health care systems. This paper systematically surveys those state legislative efforts and exposes the federalism trap that threatens to derail them: ERISA's preemption of state regulation relating to employer-sponsored health insurance. In this thesis, we consider a cognitive radio (CR) network where the primary network's feedback information is utilized to design access schemes for the secondary network, to exploit the underutilized primary spectrum resources. Secondary users (SUs) identify the spectrum opportunities by sensing the spectrum for primary users (PUs) activities and by listening to the PUs feedback. The feedback signals monitored in this research work are the channel quality indicator (CQI) and automatic repeat request (ARQ) available in the PUs network. We reconstructed several rheological transects across the Aegean Region, comparing the behaviour in collisional versus subducting settings. We interpolated closely spaced 1D strength envelopes, realized through a dedicated MATLAB script, for determining the shallow lithospheric distribution of brittle and ductile layers. We mainly used literature data and geodynamic considerations to fix the parameters for the rheological modelling and took particular care in reproducing reliable thermal models. The results of the mechanical-rheological model highlighted the following features and differences between the northern continental collision and the southern oceanic subduction settings: i) a slightly shallower brittle-ductile transition (BDT) in the western sectors …

This paper focuses on a paleoecological study conducted on planktonic foraminifera from upper Oligocene-lower Miocene deposits of the J-Anomaly Ridge (North Atlantic Ocean). Paleoclimatic studies are crucial to better comprehend how climatic changes occurred in the past and how they might influence global climate in the next few decades. Multichannel seismic, 3.5-kHz Chirp subbottom profiler and multibeam bathymetric data were collected along the western Black Sea margin, offshore Sakarya River, to investigate the bottom-simulating reflections (BSRs), free gas accumulations, and mud volcanoes. Geometries from the seismic data indicate widespread BSRs along the continental rise between 750 and 1950 m water depths, 70 to 350 ms below the seafloor. Seismic attribute analyses have been applied to the seismic data to reveal the acoustic properties of the gas hydrates. An online computer program called APMdisc (Active and Passive Margin discrimination) for the discrimination of siliciclastic sediments from active and passive margin settings was written in Java along with the ZK framework. APMdisc calculates four complex discriminant functions (DFilr(A-P)M and DFmlr(A-P)M; DFilr(A-P)MT and DFmlr(A-P)MT), which represent linear combinations of log-ratios of all ten major elements (M) and ten major and six trace elements (MT), respectively. In these equations, ilr and mlr stand for isometric log-ratio and modified log-ratio transformations of the chemical composition of active and passive margin sediments, respectively. The Cerro Marcelinos (CM) and Cerro Colorado (CC) plutons are part of the Candela-Monclova intrusive belt (NE Mexico), which is mid-Eocene in age (43-35 Ma). It intrudes into the Sabinas Basin, primarily made up of limestones, of Lower and Upper Cretaceous age. Around several intrusions, including the CM and CC plutons, mineralizations are known. However, how much hidden mineralizations would occur is not known. Trends within the plutons and in contact aureoles are also poorly described at present. The Gönen granitoid is exposed in the western Sakarya Zone and is overlain unconformably by a Jurassic succession. The medium to coarse-grained Gönen granitoid has mineral assemblage of K-feldspar, plagioclase, quartz, muscovite, and biotite. Accessory phases are apatite and zircon. In this study, zircon U-Pb age is combined with Lu-Hf isotopes, which are presented to reveal the magma source and possible petrogenetic processes that took place during the formation of the parental magma for the Gönen granitoid. The evolution of the Lycian Foreland and Aksu basins are associated with the Africa-Eurasia convergence and collision of intervening continental blocks. Both basins developed around the Beydağları, a Mesozoic carbonate platform, which constitutes the main component and western limb of the Isparta Angle. The Gömbe Basin is an integral part of the Lycian Foreland Basin that comprises mainly Eocene to Late Miocene turbidites, onto which the allochthonous Lycian and Antalya nappes thrust over. The Cenozoic history of the Anatolian Plateau is investigated using the distribution of the last Cenozoic marine strata, the ages of Neogene continental sediments and magmatic rocks, and thermochronology. In central and northern Anatolia, the youngest marine sediments are of Middle Eocene age and show that the region has been above the sea level since ca. 41 Ma. The preservation of marine Eocene sequences over large regions and widespread distribution of Neogene continental sediments point to minor erosion or subsidence, except in the Miocene core complexes, and indicate average surface uplift or subsidence rates of less than 0.05 km/Myr since …

Located in the Eastern Anatolian Region in Turkey, the Munzur Mountains (Munzurs; 3463 m above sea level) are one of the most important glacial landscapes in Turkey, with evidence for extensive glaciations in the past and small-scale glaciation at present. As Turkey's second-largest glaciated region, these mountains include various glacial landforms, primarily glacial valleys, hanging valleys, cirques, and moraines. However, only limited data are available on the extent and chronology of former glaciations in the Munzur Mountains.
