The mangrove plant Kandelia candel is a type of woody halophyte that grows in tropical and subtropical ocean intertidal zones and exhibits a high salt tolerance. In this study, 61,970 unigenes were obtained from the roots of 60-day-old K. candel seedlings treated with 0 (control), 200, 400, and 600 mM NaCl for 3 days with an N50 of 1510 bp. Moreover, 454, 311, and 2663 genes were differentially expressed under 200, 400, and 600 mM NaCl treatments, respectively. In the present study, microalgal biomass (Anabeana circinalis and Scenedesmus quadricauda) was used as biofertilizer in cucumber cultivation. The response of cucumber growth characters to microalgal biofertilizer was evaluated. Moreover, rhizosphere microbial diversity and community composition of cucumber was analyzed through 16S rRNA high-throughput Illumina sequencing data. The results showed that microalgal biomass as biofertilizer significantly promoted height, number of leaves and flower buds, and stem diameter of cucumber. The application of a high concentration of S. quadricauda to soil raised the diversity of rhizosphere fungi of cucumber. Critical Notes On Draconanthes Aberrans (Orchidaceae, Pleurothallidinae) With Description Of New Species, Marta Kolanowska, Slawomir Nowak, Dariusz Szlachetko

The actual variation and specific diversity of Neotropical Draconanthes aberrans is evaluated based on morphological data. As recognized in this paper D.aberrans complex includes a total of 6 species, 3 of which are described here. New combinations are proposed for Lepanthes prionota and L. trachysepala. Two species, including D. aberrans, are lectotypified. The previous incorrect typifications are discussed. Each of 6 species is morphologically characterized. The perianth segments of all discussed taxa are illustrated. The key to identification of species belonging to the Draconanthes aberrans complex is presented together with the comparative morphology of studied taxa.

Curcuma caesia Roxb. is one of the rarest medicinal plants used traditionally for the mitigation of various ailments. It is now classified as an endangered species and through this review, an overview regarding the pharmacological benefits of this plant has been put forward. Information on the ethnobotany and phytochemistry along with pharmacological activities was retrieved from the electronic databases for the period from 1962 to 2019. The Role Of Badh Gene In Oxidative, Salt, And Drought Stress Tolerances Of White Clover, Gürkan Demi̇rkol

The aim of this study was to confirm the presence of BADH gene and control whether it plays an important role to protect white clover (Trifolium repens L.) against oxidative, salt, and drought stresses. Three genotypes possessing BADH and 1 genotype lacking BADH were selected, considering the expression levels of BADH in response to methyl viologen mediated oxidative stress. The genotypes possessing BADH displayed significantly less ion leakage under oxidative stress treatment, compared to that lacking BADH . Chromosomal data are valuable and very useful for revealing evolution and speciation processes. Due to its wide distribution throughout the world, morphological differences, and chromosomal alterations, Erodium L?Hér. is an important genus for investigating the relationship between chromosomal alterations and karyotype evolution. In the present study, the chromosome records of 15 taxa are provided; three are reported here for the first time (E.birandianum, E. gaillardotii, and E.hendrikii), seven present new chromosome numbers, and five are in agreement with previous reports. Tragopogon Abbreviatus (Asteraceae): A Little-Known Species Inferred From Morphological And Molecular Analysis, Kami̇l Çoşkunçelebi̇, Mutlu Gültepe, Murat Erdem Güzel, Serdar Makbul

Tragopogon porrifolius occurs in Turkey with 3 taxonomically confused subspecies: T. porrifolius subsp. eriospermus, T. porrifolius subsp. longirostris, and T. porrifolius subsp. abbreviatus. In the present paper, T. porrifolius subsp. abbreviatus endemic to Turkey is raised at specific level based on morphological and molecular analysis. After detailed assessment of original herbarium specimens and literature studies, we found that this name is not typified yet. Thus, a lectotype is provided together with an emended diagnosis; synonym, distribution map, and conservation status for the first time. Additionally, a preliminary phylogenetic position of this little-known taxon is given on several newly sequenced data.

This study aimed to characterize the stem, peduncle, and leaf anatomy of 22 species of Sedum senso lato distributed in Iran. The results showed that the presence of tanniniferous storage cells in stems and leaves, distinct xylem vessels in stems, and the shape of peduncle cross sections, were taxonomically informative evidence, and isolated Phedimus from the other studied taxa of Sedum s.l. , whereas hairy leaves and peduncles containing starch storage cells were identified as Prometheum and Hylotelephium respectively. Teucrium L. is a well-known and cosmopolitan genus of the Lamiaceae family. In Turkey, the genus is represented by 36 species (48 taxa). Teucrium Sect. Teucrium that this study focuses on comprises around 30 species worldwide and is mainly distributed in countries of the Mediterranean Basin. With 11 species (14 taxa), it is the second-largest section of the genus Teucrium in Turkey. Since plants are exposed to diverse environmental stresses in their natural area, numerous reviews have demonstrated many aspects of dehydrins (DHNs), including structural and functional dynamics, and multiple roles such as membrane protection, cryoprotection of enzymes, chaperone feature, and protection from reactive oxygen species. In this review, we have focused on new information, and other promising and emerging topics of DHNs in plants. This review outlines particularly the potential regulatory mechanisms of DHNs associated with stress tolerance and the role of DHNs in morphological responses of the plants exposed to environmental stresses. Airborne pollen grains in Aydın, an important city for agriculture and tourism in the western part of Turkey, were studied for 2 years (2014 and 2015) using the volumetric method. During a 2-year study conducted in the city center, an average of 19,226 pollen grains belonging to 46 taxa were detected. Among these detected taxa, 29 (average 73.97%) belonged to arboreal plants and 17 (average 24.95%) to nonarboreal plants. The highest pollen concentrations belonged to Olea europaea (21.02%), Quercus (15.23%), Poaceae (11.89%), Pinaceae (11.47%), Cupressaceae/Taxaceae (11.11%), Platanus(4.12%), Morus (3.83%), and Urticaceae (3.58%), which were considered to be the dominant species. …

Salvia L. is an ideal exemplar to demonstrate prezygotic isolation mechanisms in sympatric populations due to their wellknown staminal lever mechanism. Mechanical, phenological, and ethological isolation mechanisms have been reported among sympatric species of Salvia. However, it has been shown that if closely related species are sympatric and flower at the same time, they can potentially hybridize. Astragalus aybarsii H. Duman & Aytaç (Fabaceae) is described and illustrated as a new species from Kastamonu province (Turkey). The new species grows in open areas of Pinus brutia Ten. forests. Diagnostic and morphological charactersof the new species are compared with its close relatives, A. setulosus Boiss. & Balansa and A. eubrychioides Boiss. Also, some notes on the ecology, biogeography, conservation status and the pollen morphological and leaflet micromorphological features of the new species are presented. The geographical distribution of this new species and its allied species is mapped.

In this study, the synopsis of the taxa of the genus Trigonella in Turkey is presented. It is represented with 34 taxa in Turkey. The name of Trigonella coelesyriaca was misspelled to Flora of Turkey and the correct name of this species, Trigonella caelesyriaca, was given in this study. The endemic Trigonella raphanina has been reduced to synonym of T. cassia and T. balansae is reduced to synonym of T. corniculata. In addition, T. spruneriana var. sibthorpii is reevaluated as a distinct species. Lectotypification was designated for T. capitata, T. spruneriana and T. velutina. The high sensitivity of silicon microcantilever sensors has expanded their use in areas ranging from gas sensing to bio-medical applications. Photochromic molecules also represent promising candidates for a large variety of sensing applications. In this work, the operating principles of these two sensing methods are combined in order to detect the reversible conformational change of a molecular switch, spiropyran. Thus, arrays of silicon microcantilever sensors were functionalized with spiropyran on the gold covered side and used as test microcantilevers. Everywhere in our surroundings we increasingly come in contact with nanostructures that have distinctive complex shape features on a scale comparable to the particle itself. Such shape ensembles can be made by modern nano-synthetic methods and many industrial processes. With the ever growing universe of nanoscale shapes, names such as “nanoflowers” and “nanostars” no longer precisely describe or characterise the distinct nature of the particles. Here we capture and digitise particle shape information on the relevant size scale and create a condensed representation in which the essential shape features can be captured, recognized and correlated. Pastırma is a high value, traditional, dry cured, and edible coated meat product. For economic and sociocultural reasons, it is important to know which meat species are used in pastırma. The present study aims to carry out the determination of the meat species in pastırma. A total of 144 pastırma samples were collected from different stores. The aim of this study is to define the genotyping relationship between 31 Salmonella enterica subspecies enterica serovar Infantis (S. Infantis) strains, which were the most isolated and identified causes of food poisoning between 2013 and 2017 in Turkey. These isolated strains were studied with the DiversiLab System (repetitive sequence-based PCR; rep-PCR; bioMerieux, France) and traditional serotyping for the identification of S. Natural herbal products contain different compounds that can modulate immune and inflammatory diseases. This investigation aimed to examine the influence of Pistacia atlantica aqueous extract on cellular and humoral immunity in mice following the exposure to sheep red blood cells (SRBCs). For this purpose, male BALB/c mice (n = 40) were randomly assigned into 4 equivalent groups. The animals received 1 × 109 SRBCs in complete Freund?s adjuvant (CFA) intraperitoneally 3 times with two-week intervals. This study investigated whether abdominal ultrasonography, a frequently used examination method in clinics and hospitals, causes stress in dogs. For the study, 10 healthy dogs were used. Following general examination, intravenous catheters were placed in the V. cephalica accecorius of the dogs and blood specimens were collected to obtain serum and plasma samples (minute 0). After a 30- min break, ultrasonography was applied following shaving of the abdominal region.
