Live From New York, It’S Environmental Science! Climate Change Communication In Late-Night Comedy Television, Serena A. Ingram

Student Theses 2015-Present

This thesis explores why traditional climate change communication often fails in the mainstream news media and how late-night comedy television circumvents these problems. These late-night shows provide humorous news coverage that holds politicians and the press accountable for enabling denialist rhetoric. The first chapter sources data from the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change, the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, and the Yale Project on Climate Change Communication to outline the issues of climate change and public understanding of climate science. The second chapter describes how rhetorical analysis can identify effective or ineffective climate communication strategies. It also discusses the emotional factors …

Proceedings of the National Developmental Conference on Individual Events

The Fourth NDC-IE conference occurred eleven years later in Peoria, Illinois. It was hosted by Bradley University in the summer of 2008. This NDC-IE included the largest attendance ever with a total of 93 participants. The topics discussed included: research, the role of a DOF, growth of programs, ethics in forensics, tournament administration, education/competitive duality, growth of the activity and debate and IE relationships.

The Tourism Sector And U.S. Regional Macroeconomic Stability: A Network Approach, Jihye Min, Jerome Agrusa, Joseph Lema, Harold Lee

Hospitality Faculty Research

This study investigates how the structural mix of USA regional economies affects their volatility of economic growth. Four exogenous sectors are chosen for this investigation: Federal Government, construction, manufacturing, and tourism. Perhaps unsurprisingly, evidence suggests that a larger share of Federal Government employment in an economy reduces the variability of overall employment growth, while a larger share of construction activity elevates it. More telling is a finding that, recently, manufacturing has not contributed as much to such variability, and that a larger tourism presence increases it. The increasing integration of technology in tourism offers significant opportunities for a network approach …

Denise Spencer was born in Greenville, South Carolina in 1953. A few years after her birth, her parents relocated to an Air Force Base in Riverside, then migrated to France and then to New York. Spencer remarks her most prominent memories of her childhood were her idyllic memories of France. When Denise Spencer's family moved to Rialto in 1968, she experienced culture shock through racism and internalized racism. After graduating high school, Denise Spencer attended UC Santa Barbara as a Political Science major, where she lived with an amazing group of people who positively impacted her life. Uruk Journal of Human Sciences

Thomas Pynchon, alongside only, perhaps, Vladimir Nabokov, stands as the dominant figure in post-World War II American fiction. Pynchon’s three novels of the nineteen sixties and early nineteen seventies – V. (1963), The Crying of Lot 49 (1966), and Gravity’s Rainbow (1973) – constitute the premier examples of the postmodern sublime in literature. Each work intimates the presence and power of another order of being: the inanimate in V., the Tristero in The Crying of Lot 49, and quite literally unending series of cabals, conspiracies, and gnostic realms in Gravity’s Rainbow. Religious Liberty In A Pandemic, Caroline Mala Corbin

Duke Law Journal Online

The coronavirus pandemic caused an unprecedented shutdown of the United States. The stay-at-home orders issued by most states typically banned large gatherings of any kind, including religious services. Churches sued, arguing that these bans violated their religious liberty rights by treating worship services more strictly than analogous activities that were not banned, such as shopping at a liquor store or superstore. This Essay examines these claims, concluding that the constitutionality of the bans turns on the science of how the pathogen spreads, and that the best available scientific evidence supports the mass gathering bans.

Due to budgetary constraints, beginning with the 2018 Fall semester, the newspaper is only published one day a week (and once every other week during the summer).
