A problem exists with students’ reading achievement at an elementary school in the southcentral area of the United States. A high proportion of students had unsatisfactory scores on their reading achievement tests between 2016 and 2019. A possible contributing factor is that teachers have struggled to provide effective efforts, strategies, and interventions to improve the reading performance of the students over this span of time. Stress can be heightened during a merger; understanding how acute care nurses who work in a hospital undergoing a merger, experience senior leaders’ use of symbolism may help to promote hospital and leader sustainability. Executive symbolism unfolds into aesthetic experience, normally considered a response to art, with few studies of its existence and benefit to organizational life. The purpose of this phenomenological-hermeneutic study guided by Parker’s aesthetic theory was to examine acute care nurses’ emotional responses and experiences with senior leaders’ use of executive symbolism in the midst of the organizational change. Objective: To explore the reasons for decline in empathy among physicians and to identify strategiesfor fostering empathetic clinical practice.
Methods: The qualitative study was conducted at the Aga Khan University Hospital, Karachi, from February to June 2017, and comprised focus group discussions involving separate sessions with medical students, residents and clinical teachers. Content analysis was used to analyse the verbatim transcripts for identification of codes which led to derivation of themes from the data. Consolidated criteria for reporting qualitative research was used to assess the quality of the study.

This article advocates adding object-based learning, utilizing rare legal books and manuscripts, to the legal education toolbox. Object-based learning is an educational methodology that explains the many learning benefits resulting from student engagement with tangible objects of material culture. Studies into the use of this methodology with undergraduate and graduate students are rather new, but research indicates that object-based learning produces measurable positive results across the curriculum.

Maurice E. Peloubet was one of accountancy’s major players during the profession’s highly evolutionary period in the United States from before World War I to the Vietnam War. Though Peloubet spent his entire career from 1911 to 1964 in public accounting, he also promoted the profession on the academic, governmental, and international fronts. This dissertation explores his contributions to the profession of accountancy and in turn society at large. The purpose of this research is to form an overarching definition of community membership that encompasses all community contexts. Utilizing qualitative interviews with 102 members of five known community contexts (communities of action, circumstance, interest, place, and practice), the authors use cross-case analysis to explore common, transcendent themes of membership. Three takeaways emerge: first, that individuals identify with communities to address personal needs but come to see social benefits; second, that individuals join communities to deepen existing relationships, but develop new ones; and third, that through engagement, individuals strengthen a sense of self that is unique to community context. In early childhood educational settings, challenging behaviors have been found to be a significant responsibility. The variables involved in effectively intervening in challenging behavior, and developing behavior support plans, are often determined by various factors. Previous research into challenging behaviors of young children have focused on the effectiveness of certain behavioral interventions, professional development opportunities, and curriculum such as the Pyramid Model. Mass incarceration and its effects are well documented and carceral privatization is hotly contested on moral and economic grounds. This dissertation examines the local effects of carceral privatization in the U.S. south in historical context. Tallulah is a small, rural predominately African American town in northeastern Louisiana that endures high rates of poverty, unemployment, and low educational attainment. It also hosts four private prisons operated by LaSalle Corrections, LLC. Military coalitions are both a common feature of interstate warfare and an example of the highest level of cooperation between states. Despite their tremendous importance in international relations, military coalitions remain poorly understood. This project investigates critical questions related to coalition structures, and uses quantitative and qualitative methods to show that both the threat and political opportunity facing coalitions helps to determine the shape of their structures. This project utilizes a dataset of all coalition wars since 1816, as well as case studies of six coalitions to investigate these relationships. This paper explores the affect of digital media in live performance. The research is generated from work with integrated digital media in Carol Ann Duffy's 2015 adaptation of Everyman as well as Samuel Beckett's radio play Cascando. Through experimentation and implementation of motion tracking digital elements and actor-manipulated sonic and visual digital media achieved with MIDI and OSC mapping, I explore the embodiment of performances by actors when their various characters are represented on the physical as well as the digital stage simultaneously.

This study reconsiders declamation in Schubert lieder performance in light of emerging historical evidence. Johann Michael Vogl’s reputedly declamatory approach has arguably been captured in surviving Diabelli editions that document his rhetorically motivated alterations and ornamentations. Similarly, Gustav Anton von Seckendorff has detailed song-like spoken declamation that manipulates pitch, rhythm and accentuation. Recordings of five modern German speakers were transcribed, analysed and used to model effective declamation in the recitation of Johann Wolfgang von Goethe’s poems ‘Erster Verlust’ and ‘Geistes Gruß.’ PRAAT speech analysis software was used to analyse the recordings. Organizational Studies as a field typically focuses on organizations such as workplaces, large businesses, corporations, or governments. While organizational theorists often recognize in their definitions of organization that other forms of human groups and communities can be considered organizations, they don’t often include non-traditional organizations as examples in literature. In this thesis, I argue that music fandoms are a form of organization by examining multiple definitions, power relations, culture, influence on identity, and lasting impacts of fandom.
