Nom Fractionation By Hpsec-Dad-Doc To Optimise Drinking Water Treatment Processes, Meritxell Valentí-Quiroga
International Congress on Environmental Modelling and Software
Drinkable water is an essential public service provided by water treatment works (WTWs). Potable water treatment is affected by several factors such as turbidity, natural organic matter (NOM), biological agents, taste and odor-causing compounds and other anthropogenic organic compounds. One of the biggest challenges of the WTWs is to strike a balance between disinfection processes to control microbiological risks during NOM removal and preventing the formation of undesirable chemicals caused by disinfectants (DPBs). On-line sensors are currently used for monitoring physical parameters (pH, flow rate, turbidity and temperature) while routine quality control also includes the monitoring of surrogate chemical parameters …

Gower´S Queer Poetics In The Mirour De L'Omme, María Bullón-Fernández

Gower's Queer Poetics in the Mirour de l'Omme
In the Mirour de l’Omme John Gower describes the allegorical Sins as both deceitful and “hermafrodrite” and later confesses to having engaged in queer practices in his earlier courtly poetry. Gower’s confession and his association of the Sins with intersexuality, I will argue, do not entail ultimately a rejection of queer poetics. In his Life of the Virgin Mary, the final part of the Mirour, Gower deploys a different kind of queer poetics, one that acknowledges the indeterminacies of language but still seeks to stabilize meaning, while intertwining male and female.
The Concept Of Natureculture Document: A Conceptual Exploration Of Seeds, Embodied Information, And Unconventional Records, Marc Kosciejew
The Concept Of Natureculture Document: A Conceptual Exploration Of Seeds, Embodied Information, And Unconventional Records, Marc Kosciejew
Journal of Contemporary Archival Studies
Seedbanks, or so-called archival arks of the apocalypse, are addressing accelerating anthropocentric alterations to the environment by collecting, storing, and preserving seeds. These are specialized archival repositories that approach, frame, and use seeds as documents for agricultural and scientific research, classification and preservation work, and various other archival and administrative purposes. Seedbanks indeed are archives of unconventional records.
This article introduces the concept of natureculture document as a framing device in which to help analyze the documentary status of objects that are not necessarily or usually considered as documents or having documentary characteristics. This concept, coupled with its interdisciplinary theoretical …
Model Framework For Global Biogeochemical Modelling, Mike Martin
Model Framework For Global Biogeochemical Modelling, Mike Martin
International Congress on Environmental Modelling and Software
Spatial modelling is challenging as data acquisition and aggregation is often difficult. Not only is the availability of data challenging, but also its format and scale. To overcome this problem the framework presented here uses global data sets for soil, climate and land use for running the biogeochemical model, ECOSSE. The framework (GlobalECOSSE) can be used on different spatial and time scales. All driving data is aggregated for the target scale. For climate data this is done by averaging. Soils data can be considered either as the dominant soil type or by the area represented by each soil type within …

Records of carbon dioxide concentrations (partial pressure expressed as pCO2) over Earth’s history provide trends that are critical to understand our changing world. To better constrain pCO2 estimations, here we test organic pCO2 proxies against the direct measurements of pCO2 recorded in ice cores. Based on the concept of stable carbon isotopic fractionation due to photosynthetic CO2 fixation (Ɛp), we use the stable carbon isotopic composition (δ13C) of the recently proposed biomarker phytol (from all photoautotrophs), as well as the conventionally used alkenone biomarkers (from specific species) for comparison, to reconstruct pCO2 over several Quaternary …

Extracellular vesicles (EVs) are a broad, heterogeneous class of membranous lipid-bilayer vesicles that facilitate intercellular communication throughout the body. As important carriers of various types of cargo, including proteins, lipids, DNA fragments, and a variety of small noncoding RNAs, including miRNAs, mRNAs, and siRNAs, EVs may play an important role in the development of addiction and other neurological pathologies, particularly those related to HIV. In this review, we summarize the findings of EV studies in the context of methamphetamine (METH), cocaine, nicotine, opioid, and alcohol use disorders, highlighting important EV cargoes that may contribute to addiction. Additionally, as HIV and …

Cyclin D1 encodes the regulatory subunit of a holoenzyme that phosphorylates RB and functions as a collaborative nuclear oncogene. The serine threonine kinase Akt plays a pivotal role in the control of cellular metabolism, survival, and mitogenic signaling. Herein, Akt1-mediated phosphorylation of downstream substrates in the mammary gland is reduced by cyclin D1 genetic deletion and is induced by mammary-gland-targeted cyclin D1 overexpression. Cyclin D1 is associated with Akt1 and augments the rate of onset and maximal cellular Akt1 activity induced by mitogens. Cyclin D1 is identified in a cytoplasmic-membrane-associated pool, and cytoplasmic-membrane-localized cyclin D1-but not nuclear-localized cyclin D1-recapitulates Akt1 …

Anthropology Faculty Publications and Presentations
Programs seeking to transform undergraduate science, technology, engineering, and mathematics courses often strive for participating faculty to share their knowledge of innovative teaching practices with other faculty in their home departments. Here, we provide interview, survey, and social network analyses revealing that faculty who use innovative teaching practices preferentially talk to each other, suggesting that greater steps are needed for information about innovative practices to reach faculty more broadly.

From Movement To Self: A Literature Review On The Potential Effect Of Dance Movement Therapy On The Understanding Of Self-Identity For People With Borderline Personality Disorder, Natalia Santiago
Expressive Therapies Capstone Theses
This literature review looks at whether Dance/Movement Therapy (DMT) might be useful when treating identity disturbances within Borderline Personality Disorder (BPD). It begins by analyzing the role of identity within one’s life. Identifying how self-concept strongly impacts how one perceives and behaves within their surroundings. Identity disturbance is a characteristic of BPD that has been found to be pervasive. The lack of self-concept is also tied to the other symptoms of BPD, such as impulsivity, dysregulation, and difficulties with interpersonal relationships. Genetics, brain function, and complex childhood trauma are thought to impact the development of BPD. Persistent adverse experiences can …
