Social Media Marketing Adoption Strategies: An Exploratory Multiple Case Study Of Landscape Industry Small Businesses, Crystal Lupo, Jason R. Stroman

Journal of Social, Behavioral, and Health Sciences

Despite research contending that marketing is a pivotal factor in small business success, many small business owners continue to underutilize low-cost marketing options available to them. Of these options, social media marketing is a useful tool to maintain competitiveness in the larger marketplace. Quantifying Flood And Drought Hazards On A Large Data Scarce Indian River Basin, Giuseppe Formetta Sep 2020

Quantifying Flood And Drought Hazards On A Large Data Scarce Indian River Basin, Giuseppe Formetta

International Congress on Environmental Modelling and Software

India has experienced several devastating climate extremes during recent decades. Floods and droughts are among the most dangerous geohazards and constitute a serious menace for public safety leading to human and economic losses. For example during the August 2018 Kerala floods 483 people died and 140 were missing, whereas the 2016 drought hit about 10 states and affected about 330 million people. In this work we quantified the flood and drought magnitude and frequency in the large Netravati river basin in India combining: 1) gauged data (rainfall and evapotranspiration), 2) satellite data (CHIRPS), and 3) a parsimonious semi-distributed hydrological model. …

Impacts Of Mental Health First Aid On Mental Health Literacy And Stigma, Junseon Hwang Sep 2020

Impacts Of Mental Health First Aid On Mental Health Literacy And Stigma, Junseon Hwang

Student Theses

Mental Health First Aid has been developed to train the general public to give initial support to those in mental health crisis and development. The effectiveness of Mental Health First Aid has been questioned due to its relatively short history of the course. Mental Health First Aid was recently widely-disseminated in New York City as part of the ThriveNYC initiative. While most studies were supportive of the training, there has been no study that specifically examines New York residents. We recruited 328 New York residents who self-reported whether or not they have participated in Mental Health First Aid via Amazon …

Homicide And Drug Trafficking In Impoverished Communities In Brazil, Elenice De Souza Oliveira, Braulio Figueiredo Alves Da Silva, Flavio Luiz Sapori, Gabriela Gomes Cardoso Sep 2020

Homicide And Drug Trafficking In Impoverished Communities In Brazil, Elenice De Souza Oliveira, Braulio Figueiredo Alves Da Silva, Flavio Luiz Sapori, Gabriela Gomes Cardoso

Department of Justice Studies Faculty Scholarship and Creative Works

Many studies demonstrate that homicides are heavily concentrated in impoverished neighborhoods, but not all socially disadvantaged neighborhoods are hotbeds of violence. Conducted in Belo Horizonte, Brazil, this study hypothesizes that the association between high rates of homicide and impoverished areas is influenced by the emergence of a specific type of street drug-dealing common to favelas (slums). The study applies econometric techniques to police data on homicides and drug arrests from 2008 to 2011, as well as 2010 Census data, to test its hypothesis. The findings provide insight into the development of crime prevention policies in areas of high social vulnerability.

How Should We Understand The Digital Economy In Asia? Critical Assessment And Research Agenda, Kai Li, Dan J. Kim, Karl R. Lang, Robert J. Kauffman, Maurizio Naldi

Publications and Research

By Asian digital economy, we refer to high-tech developments, business and social transformations, and information- driven changes in the region’s growth. We discuss its background and foundations, significance in Asia and contribution to removal of historical barriers in traditional business. We assess how new value chains are transforming country-level involvement in worldwide manufacturing and note “smiling curve theory” predictions about the global value chain in Asia for high-tech firms and their economies. The takeaway is that the digital economy in Asian nations involves revamping business processes through technology innovation, government policies for growth, and digital entrepreneurship. We analyze the “digital …

With an enormous range of applications, the Internet of Things (IoT) has magnetized industries and academicians from everywhere. IoT facilitates operations through ubiquitous connectivity by providing Internet access to all the devices with computing capabilities. With the evolution of wireless infrastructure, the focus from simple IoT has been shifted to smart, connected and mobile IoT (M-IoT) devices and platforms, which can enable low-complexity, low-cost and efficient computing through sensors, machines, and even crowdsourcing. All these devices can be grouped under a common term of M-IoT. Even though the positive impact on applications has been tremendous, security, privacy and trust are …
