Double Bottom Pattern Recognition For Trading Strategy, Chusana Nuntanart Jan 2020

Double Bottom Pattern Recognition For Trading Strategy, Chusana Nuntanart

Chulalongkorn University Theses and Dissertations (Chula ETD)

We utilize the Double bottom pattern, which is a common and the most easily recognized reversal pattern in the technical analysis approach, to seek the existence of abnormal returns from 1 Jan 2009 to 31 Dec 2019. The general event study methodology was used to statistically test for the existence of abnormal returns from 611 stocks in SET. We concluded that there was an existence of abnormal return from trading with the Double bottom pattern strategy. This led to the conclusion that the Thai stock market might be not as informationally efficient as academics have conjectured.

Although LGBTQ+ populations experience significant health challenges, little research exists that investigates their health from an informational perspective. Our study addresses this gap by exploring the health information practices of LGBTQ+ communities in South Carolina, focusing on how sociocultural context shapes these practices. Thirty semi-structured interviews with South Carolina LGBTQ+ community leaders analyzed using open qualitative coding informed the development of a conceptual framework describing their information practices. Findings show that participants engaged in two broad types of practices – protective and defensive – as responses to risks and barriers experienced, which are in turn produced by social and structural …

Faculty Publications

Researchers have collected Twitter data to study a wide range of topics. This growing body of literature, however, has not yet been reviewed systematically to synthesize Twitter-related papers. The existing literature review papers have been limited by constraints of traditional methods to manually select and analyze samples of topically related papers. The goals of this retrospective study are to identify dominant topics of Twitter-based research, summarize the temporal trend of topics, and interpret the evolution of topics withing the last ten years. This study systematically mines a large number of Twitter-based studies to characterize the relevant literature by an efficient …

A Presumption In Favor Of Openness: Unsealing Adoption Records, Emily Ingall Jan 2020

A Presumption In Favor Of Openness: Unsealing Adoption Records, Emily Ingall

Cardozo Journal of Equal Rights & Social Justice

The note argues that the current system of sealed adoption records in the United States, which prioritizes confidentiality over adoptees' rights, is outdated and harmful. It advocates for a presumption of openness, asserting that adoptees have a fundamental right to access their birth records, which is essential for their identity, medical needs, and psychological well-being. The analysis calls for legal reforms that balance the privacy rights of birth parents with the rights of adoptees to their personal information, proposing a model that includes contact preference registries and access to non-identifying information.

Key Expert Stakeholder Perceptions Of The Law Of Genomics: Identified Problems And Potential Solutions, Lauren E. Clatch Jan 2020

Key Expert Stakeholder Perceptions Of The Law Of Genomics: Identified Problems And Potential Solutions, Lauren E. Clatch

Law Faculty Publications

The law on human genomics in the United States is currently in transition and under debate. The rapid evolution of the science, burgeoning clinical research, and growing clinical application pose serious challenges for federal and state law. Newer genomic assays, such as gene panels, whole exome and whole genome sequencing that can assess many or all of a patient’s genetic variants are different from former genetic assays that consist of assessing for variants in specific genes that indicate risk for medical conditions and for single-gene Mendelian disorders. Overall, single-gene genetic testing has primarily been used for risk prediction, disease diagnosis, …

The Economic Efficiency Case Against Business Tax Privacy, Daniel Schaffa Jan 2020

The Economic Efficiency Case Against Business Tax Privacy, Daniel Schaffa

Law Faculty Publications

By statute, business tax returns are not publicly available. But with public access, investors would acquire useful information that would help them make better investing decisions; business tax compliance and planning would become more uniform, preventing tax-savvy firms from gaining an advantage over other relatively more productive firms; and businesses could learn from one another, which would spare firms the cost of redundantly developing the same tax strategies. In the long run, these efficiency gains could result in lower prices, higher wages, more innovation, more leisure, and better investment returns. In the debate over business tax privacy, these sorts of …

Avoidance Of The English Passive Construction By L1 Chinese Learners, Yang Wang Jan 2020

Avoidance Of The English Passive Construction By L1 Chinese Learners, Yang Wang

Chulalongkorn University Theses and Dissertations (Chula ETD)

This research investigated avoidance behaviour as one of the strategies L2 learners may resort to because of L1-L2 differences, or the non-existence of L2 structures for L1 learners (Schachter 1974; Dagut and Laufer 1985). Schachter (1974) proposed the Avoidance Behaviour Hypothesis, whereby L2 learners were likely to avoid using some L2 structures due to the aforementioned difficulties in L2 acquisition. Later researchers, i.e. Dagut and Laufer (1985), and Laufer and Eliasson (1993), claimed that L1-L2 differences tended to play a role, or at least would be the 'best predictor' (1993, p46) of avoidance. However, recent researchers, i.e. Thiamtawan and Pongpairoj …

Synthesis And Anti-Psoriatic Activity Of A Mycophenolic Acid-Curcumin Conjugate As A Mutual Prodrug, Yonelian Yuyun

Chulalongkorn University Theses and Dissertations (Chula ETD)

Due to its several mechanisms of action, curcumin (CUR) has been employed as adjuvant therapy in treating psoriasis. Limited oral bioavailability was the problem for the development of CUR for therapeutic purposes. Therefore, many approaches, including the prodrug strategy, have been devised to address Cur's drawbacks. CUR was conjugated with mycophenolic acid (MPA) as a new prodrug in this research. Characterization of MPA-CUR structure was done by FT-IR, 1H-NMR, 13C-NMR, and MS. MPA-CUR showed water solubility at 0.73 μM and log P at 2.33, respectively. MPA-CUR was found more stable in buffer solutions than CUR and MPA. In vitro anti-psoriatic …
