Research outputs 2014 to 2021
Objective: Adenocarcinoma in situ (AIS) of the cervix is a precursor to cervical adenocarcinoma. When AIS is detected by cervical screening an excision biopsy is mandatory to exclude invasion. We aimed to compare margins status, specimen size and fragmentation after loop electrosurgical excision procedure (LEEP) and ‘cold knife cone biopsy’ (CKC).
Methods: The EXCISE Trial was an investigator-initiated, multicenter, open-label, parallel-group, phase 2, randomized study. Patients were enrolled at seven hospitals in Australia and New Zealand. We randomly assigned women aged ≥ 18 to ≤ 45 years with screen detected AIS to LEEP or CKC. Co-primary endpoints were margin status, …

Ultra-Brief Online Mindfulness-Based Intervention Effects On Mental Health During The Coronavirus Disease Outbreak In Malaysia: A Randomized Controlled Trial, Kai-Shuen Pheh, Hui-Chien Tan, Chee-Seng Tan
Makara Human Behavior Studies in Asia
The federal government of Malaysia recently implemented a nationwide Movement Control Order (MCO) to control the COVID-19 outbreak. However, the MCO has had a negative impact on people’s mental well-being. Interventions that can improve people’s mental health when their movement is restricted are therefore urgently needed. The present study investigated the impact of an ultra-brief online mindfulness-based intervention on mental health using a two-arm randomized controlled trial design. A total of 161 participants self-reported their distress, anxiety, psychological insecurity, and well-being at baseline and post-treatment, while 61 of them answered the same set of measures and the fear of COVID-19 …

Personality Does Not Determine Internet Addiction: A Meta-Analysis, Nadia Astarini, Ananta Yudiarso
Makara Human Behavior Studies in Asia
Internet addiction (IA) is the disruption of a person's life because of the excessive use of the Internet. Severe IA can contribute to relationship conflicts, poor well-being, and low productivity. Research has found that IA can be attributed to maladaptive thinking and specific personality traits and with the Big Five in particular. However, the results of previous studies have been somewhat inconsistent, with previous meta-analytical research showing insignificant correlations. This study was a replication of a previous meta-analytic study and sought to improve the accuracy and the reliability of previous findings using different and larger samples. A total of 11 …

Post-Partum Haemorrhage - The Ultimate Challenge To Emergency Medicine, Akshata Ammembal
Manipal Journal of Medical Sciences
Post-partum haemorrhage (PPH) is a leading cause of maternal mortality globally. This report elaborates the diagnosis and treatment of a 31-year-old woman with PPH, treated in our tertiary centre. On presentation, she showed all signs of hypovolemic shock and disseminated intravascular coagulation (DIC). Persistent fresh vaginal bleeding led to the decision to perform an emergency hysterectomy. She required massive transfusion but consequently developed transfusion-associated lung injury (TRALI), for which she was effectively treated. She made a full recovery leading to discharge 12 days after admission. This article stresses the importance of the multi-disciplinary approach and rapid, coordinated management of emergency …

Health Literacy Program To Reduce The Consumption Of Sugary Drinks By Middle School Students In Jakarta, Ni Putu Pristi Wisuantari, Laras Sekarasih
Makara Human Behavior Studies in Asia
There is a visible upward trend in the consumption of sugar-sweetened beverages across the world, and Indonesia is no exception. This study examined the effectiveness of school-based programs to increase the knowledge of junior high school students with regard to sugar-sweetened beverages in an attempt to decrease their consumption. A one week intervention using a quasi-experimental design was conducted through the adoption of the Kids SIPsmartER (Lane, et al., 2017) program. The students who received the intervention showed significantly higher nutritional knowledge of drinks with high sugar content upon completion of the program. The intervention was also successful in inducing …

Feedback-Guided Analysis As An Approach To Managing Sustainability In Asean Countries, Maria Assunta C. Cuyegkeng, Charlotte Kendra Gotangco Gonzales
Journal of Management for Global Sustainability
Innovation has been at the center of most science policies of the ASEAN countries, driven as they are by a greater concern for the competitive advantages that can come from science and technology. Related to these policies, although often treated separately, are policies on the environment and environmental education. What is missing, however, is a more comprehensive view of how both science and environmental policies influence and are influenced by the culture and well-being of the people in a particular country. This study attempts to fill in the blanks through feedback-guided analysis, particularly by using a cultural adaptation template introduced …

The Role Of National Culture In The Relationship Between Sustainability Practices And Sustainability Performance, Cristina Sancha, Annachiara Longoni, Cristina Giménez
Journal of Management for Global Sustainability
This paper aims to examine the role of national culture in the relationship between sustainability practices (social and environmental practices) and sustainability performance (social and environmental performance). While previous literature has focused on the influence of national culture on the decision-making and ethical behaviors of managers, the role of national culture on the effectiveness of sustainability practices has been rather neglected. Our study addresses this gap by highlighting the relevance of national culture as a contextual element when implementing sustainability practices in different countries. Based on a multi-level regression analysis using data from 484 firms in nine countries (China, Germany, …

Library Philosophy and Practice (e-journal)
Employees can be a resource of sustained success and a competitive advantage in any orgnisation, reliant on skilled workforce. However, dearth of trained labour force to drive the manpower requirement of local industries has become a long lasting burden in some small counties. These countries do not have adequate professional advancement opportunities for librarians and support staff to become professionals or paraprofessionals due to lack of openings for specialist education in the field of librarianship. Thus, human resource risks in libraries of such countries are comparatively higher. It is therefore needed to identify and assess the severity and impact of …
