A Phenomenological Study Of Emotion Amid Significant Organizational Change, Ian Menchini
A Phenomenological Study Of Emotion Amid Significant Organizational Change, Ian Menchini
All Theses And Dissertations
This study employed a phenomenological methodology to explore the experiences shared by leaders of a public university in the Northeast United States during an extraordinary period of organizational change. The university’s organizational transformation was particularly noteworthy because it came in the face of circumstances entirely out of the university’s control. These circumstances included its state’s declining population as well as its state government’s failure to invest heavily in higher education. These long-term challenges were exacerbated by the sudden onset of the Covid-19 pandemic and a near simultaneous proposal by its system’s former executive to radically and negatively change the university’s …
Traditional Principals’ Reaction To A Charter School Opening, Dana L. Bickmore
Traditional Principals’ Reaction To A Charter School Opening, Dana L. Bickmore
Educational Psychology, Leadership, and Higher Education Faculty Research
© 2020 SAGE Publications. Using multiple case studies, I examined how three traditional principals reacted and responded over time to the opening of a charter school in their attendance boundaries. Findings suggest principals’ reactions to competition shifted based on their perceptions of their status and competitive advantage in the market. These perceptual changes were the result of interactions with parents/guardians, staff, teachers, and students. This study has implications for how principals’ perceptions over time may affect engagement in competitive markets.

An Altitude Adjustment: Implementing A Clinical Practice Guideline In The Newborn Nursery At Moderate Altitude, Leeann Blaskowsky
Student Scholarly Projects
Practice Problem: All infants undergo many changes at birth, but for some, the transition from intrauterine to extrauterine life presents more of a challenge, especially at altitude. Despite continuing research, neonatal prescribing guidelines for oxygen therapy remain ambiguous.
PICOT: For term and late preterm infants requiring oxygen beyond transition, does a clinical practice guideline compared to practice without a guideline, provide consistent, evidence-based care, support the mother-infant dyad, and impact nursing perceptions over a six-week pilot period?
Evidence: Birth at moderate altitude presents the newly born with less oxygen than those delivered at sea level. Several studies …
Transition Of Care For Discharged Patients, Rolando Ramos
Transition Of Care For Discharged Patients, Rolando Ramos
Student Scholarly Projects
Practice Problem: The 30-day readmission rate for patients discharged from the hospital and returned to their primary care in a clinical office setting (21%) was higher than the national average readmission rate (17%). The high readmission rate suggested patients were receiving transitional care that was fragmented and non-standardized. Therefore, the implementation of a collaborative transition of care practice was vital to reduce avoidable readmissions.
PICOT: The PICOT question that guided this project was, “In adult patients with chronic conditions, what is the effect of a transition of care practice, versus a non-standardized practice, on reducing 30-day readmissions, within a …

Reducing Suicide By Providing Cognitive Behavioral Therapy For Suicide Prevention, Wendy Larkin
Student Scholarly Projects
Veteran suicide is a serious and persistent national problem, which demands an effective treatment intervention. This Evidence-Based Practice project (EBP) addressed the question: Do patients with a psychiatric in-patient diagnosis of suicide ideation, who after discharge self-elect outpatient Cognitive Behavioral Therapy-Suicide Prevention (CBT-SP) treatment over a 6-week time frame, reduce the likelihood of hospital readmission for suicidal ideation vs. patients who decline CBT-SP treatment and elect Treatment as Usual (TAU)? The literature is prolific in validating that CBT-SP is successful in determining the effectiveness of CBT-SP vs. TAU in reducing suicidal behaviors in adults.
Hospital readmission data were collected on …

Set Up For Success: How The Pathway To Excellence® Framework Supports Ambulatory Care Nurses, Patience Harris, C. Preston Lewis, Rebecca Graystone
Group: American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC)
Healthcare is undergoing dramatic and unprecedented change. In particular, care delivered by nurses in ambulatory care settings, chiefly telehealth, has seen explosive growth in 2020 fueled by COVID-19. Now more than ever, ambulatory care nurses are called upon to coordinate and provide care in an array of hospital-based and nonhospital settings. Although the COVID-19 pandemic has exacerbated the existing demand for new nonacute care delivery models and settings, several factors have contributed to this tipping point.

Instructional Experience And Teaching Identities: How Academic Librarians’ Years Of Experience In Instruction Impact Their Perceptions Of Themselves As Educators, Amanda Nichols Hess
Communications in Information Literacy
As academic librarians’ instructional responsibilities evolve, it is useful to consider what factors influence how they consider their teacher identities. In this research, the author used a survey instrument grounded in transformative learning theory to explore whether librarians with varying years of experience in instruction held different beliefs about how their teaching identities had developed. She found that individuals' years of teaching experience impacted whether fellow librarians or those outside of librarianship influenced how they thought of themselves as educators. Moreover, academic librarians who had more experience indicated that changes in their job responsibilities impacted their instructional identities at greater …

Mergers is an extreme form of organizational change, which usually has an adverse impact on the merging organizations employees’ wellbeing. In literature it was argued that organizational integration after merger, which is referred to as Post-Merger Integration (PMI) is usually resisted by employees, which is considered as a major contributor to the high failure rates of mergers. It was further argued that employees’ resistance toward integration is attributed to stress, uncertainty, ambiguity and lack of clarity on the changes that merger and integration initiate. Therefore, PMI activities were assumed to psychologically traumatize employees and jeopardize their sense of belonging, attachment, …

Faculty Research, Scholarly, and Creative Activity
Prototypes play a powerful role in facilitating the work of multidisciplinary innovation teams, but if not properly managed, they may inhibit innovation processes. This paper inquires into the tensions that exist around the use of prototypes in multidisciplinary teams. We studied the relationship between work identities (related to teams and subgroups within teams) and prototypes with a field study of a multidisciplinary team in an emergency department, in charge of redesigning the layout of the unit. Results show that different values of subgroup identities are reflected in the solutions devised by the team. These values become salient through the prototype; …
