An Automatic Interaction Detection Hybrid Model For Bankcard Response Classification, Yan Wang, Sherry Ni, Brian Stone Jan 2020

An Automatic Interaction Detection Hybrid Model For Bankcard Response Classification, Yan Wang, Sherry Ni, Brian Stone

Published and Grey Literature from PhD Candidates

Data mining techniques have numerous applications in bankcard response modeling. Logistic regression has been used as the standard modeling tool in the financial industry because of its almost always desirable performance and its interpretability. In this paper, we propose a hybrid bankcard response model, which integrates decision tree-based chi-square automatic interaction detection (CHAID) into logistic regression. In the first stage of the hybrid model, CHAID analysis is used to detect the possible potential variable interactions. Then in the second stage, these potential interactions are served as the additional input variables in logistic regression. The motivation of the proposed hybrid model …

A Transcriptional Regulatory System Of The S. Cerevisiae Ole1 Gene Responds To Fatty Acid Species And Intracellular Amount, And Not Simply Membrane Status, Marshall Willey, Matthew Ochs, Clara Schriemer, Virginia Mcdonough Jan 2020

A Transcriptional Regulatory System Of The S. Cerevisiae Ole1 Gene Responds To Fatty Acid Species And Intracellular Amount, And Not Simply Membrane Status, Marshall Willey, Matthew Ochs, Clara Schriemer, Virginia Mcdonough

Faculty Publications

We examined the effects of unsaturated fatty acid (UFA) species and their concentration on the expression of OLE1, which encodes the stearoyl CoA desaturase, in Saccharomyces cerevisiae. We controlled the amount of UFA taken up by the cell by varying the concentration of tergitol in the medium. When cultured with 1 mM fatty acid in 0.1% tergitol, cells took up much more fatty acid than when cultured with the same concentration of fatty acid at 1% tergitol, although the amount incorporated was dependent on UFA species. For each fatty acid tested, we found that the higher uptake (0.1% tergitol condition) …

Moisture Sorption Behavior And Shelf Life Prediction Of Teff Seed And Flour, Baba Abdissa, Rudrayya Math, Kodandaramreddy Desham, Srinivasulu Korra

Journal of Applied Packaging Research

Moisture sorption isotherms of Teff seed and its flour were determined over the range of relative humidity (11–92%) using a gravimetric technique at constant temperature (27°C). The results obtained showed that the moisture sorption isotherm of both is almost similar and sigmoid with increasing equilibrium water content at the constant temperature. The curves start raising high above 64% RH indicating the products deteriorates faster above 64% RH. Hence the moisture content equilibrating to 64% RH was taken as critical for both Teff seed and flour variants. The sorption isotherm fits the GAB equation as per GAB generalized equation for sorption …

The Relationships Between Health Literacy, Self-Efficacy And Readiness For Change To Health Promotion Behaviors In Urban Black Women, Millie A. Hepburn

Dissertations

Black women have been shown to experience higher rates of morbidity and mortality as a result of stroke, cardiovascular disease, hypertension, diabetes and overweight or obesity than women of other races/ethnicities. The ability to avert certain health problems, such as cardiovascular disease, hypertension, diabetes, stroke and overweight or obesity is known to be directly related to active engagement in health promotion behaviors, yet Black women are consistently less likely to engage in these behaviors than are white women. Improved understanding of the various factors that impact individual health promotion behaviors to reduce risk, such as health literacy, self-efficacy and readiness …

Host Population Genetics And Biogeography Structure The Microbiome Of The Sponge Cliona Delitrix, Cole Easson, Andia Chaves-Fonnegra, Robert W. Thacker, Jose Lopez

Biology Faculty Articles

Sponges occur across diverse marine biomes and host internal microbial communities that can provide critical ecological functions. While strong patterns of host specificity have been observed consistently in sponge microbiomes, the precise ecological relationships between hosts and their symbiotic microbial communities remain to be fully delineated. In the current study, we investigate the relative roles of host population genetics and biogeography in structuring the microbial communities hosted by the excavating sponge Cliona delitrix. A total of 53 samples, previously used to demarcate the population genetic structure of C. delitrix, were selected from two locations in the Caribbean Sea and …

Using Information Technology To Reduce A Health Risk: Effect Of A Mercury Calculator On Consumer Fish Choices And Test Of A Model For Technology Acceptance By Fish Consumers, Sharon D. Wallace

Dissertations

Research indicates consumers lack adequate information about the mercury content of fish to make informed choices about eating fish. Information technology can be used to fulfill this unmet information need. To examine this matter, a two-part study was conducted using a convenience sample of fish eaters. Three-hundred forty-one participants responded to this on-line study. The Theory of Planned Behavior served as the framework for a one-group, pre-test-post-test design to investigate the effect of a web-based mercury calculator on perceived behavioral control and simulated fish choices.

Soil Health On A Small-Scale Sustainable Vegetable Farm In South Louisiana, Allison Guidroz Jan 2020

Soil Health On A Small-Scale Sustainable Vegetable Farm In South Louisiana, Allison Guidroz

LSU Master's Theses

One of the biggest challenges facing the world today is the need to provide nutritious food to an ever-growing population in a way that does not compromise the ecosystem services of the soil that are necessary for life. The evidence for widespread degradation of the soil has been a major contributor in the increased interest in soil health. Most of the research in soil health has focused on field crops, which has led to a gap in the research of soil health on vegetable cropping systems. This objective of this study was to analyze the health of the soil on …

Evaluation Of Phenolic Content, Antiradical And Antibacterial Activities Of Orange And Carrot Pomace Extracts, Dina Cheaib, Karim Raafat, Nada El Darra

BAU Journal - Health and Wellbeing

Orange and carrot pomace are considered as food wastes, despite their high content in beneficial health compounds. The comparison of phenolic extracts from orange and carrot pomace, showed higher values for Orange pomace, with a polyphenols concentration (130 mg/L), flavonoids (8.67 mg/L) and tannins (2.5 mg/L). A higher antiradical activity was also noted for orange pomace. However, carrot pomace presented a higher anti-bacterial activity. The beneficial activities of these extracts were owed to their high content in phenolic acids. Our study exhibited that orange and carrot pomace might be utilized as natural preservatives for many industrial applications.
