Lignosus rhinocerus (LR) or Tiger Milk Mushroom, a fork medicinal mushroom, has been reported for several pharmacological effects including asthma treatment, anti-inflammatory, anti-proliferative, immuno-modulating effects, promote neurite outgrowth in PC-12 cells, anti-HIV-1 activity, and antioxidants properties. However, the effect of Thai berries on delaying carbohydrate digestion, antioxidant properties, glycation inhibition, and anti-adipogenesis have not been investigated. Therefore, the present study aimed to determine the potential of anthocyanin-rich Thai berry extracts from Antidesma bunius or Mamao (ABE), Lepisanthes rubiginosa or Mahuat (LRE) and Syzygium nervosum or Makiang (SNE) on the inhibition of carbohydrate digestive enzymes, the antioxidant activity, anti-glycation, and anti-adipogenic property. RD43 rice (Oryza sativa L.) is a cross-breed between Khao Jow Hawm Suphan Buri and Supan Buri1. It is characterized as a low amylose content, soft texture, and mild fragrance. However, its potential of metabolic health effect and food application remains unknown. In the present study, daily consumption of RD43 rice containing 14.10 g of undigestible starch for 12 weeks showed a significant reduction in fasting plasma glucose, insulin, HbA1c, and HOMA-IR in prediabetic participants. The purpose of this study was to analyze the relationship between chewing efficacy and severity level of cognitive impairment in dementia patients using a smartphone with ViewGum software for chewing efficiency analysis. Participants (n=70) from the Dementia Clinic, King Chulalongkorn Memorial Hospital, included 38 dementia patients (76.1±9.0 years) and 32 patients (71.8±9.9Years) with mild cognitive impairment (MCI), diagnosed by the medical specialists. The purpose of this experimental study was to evaluate wear characteristics and retention force of the RetenDent mini-implant overdenture system (Chulalongkorn product) after the insertion-removal fatigue test. One-piece mini-implants attachment system for overdenture, Osstem MS denture® type implant (OSSTEM, Germany GmbH), and RetenDent mini-implant were tested. All samples were subjected to repeated insertion and removal fatigue cycles by the universal testing machine (E1000, INSTRON Instrument, England). Subjected fatigue cycles were 5500 with 1.00Hz frequency to mimic a 5-year insertion and removal three times per day. The objective of the study was to estimate the relative technical efficiency of public hospitals in PNG and estimate the magnitudes of output increases and/or input reductions that would have been required to make relatively inefficient hospitals more efficient using Data Envelopment Analysis for 20 hospitals in PNG using the data for 2017. The study is further extended using the Tobit regression analysis to investigate the institutional and contextual factors on hospital efficiencies. The measurement of bulk tissue nitrogen (δ15N) and carbon isotope values (δ13C) chronologically along biologically inert tissues sampled from offspring can provide a longitudinal record of their mothers' foraging habits. This study tested the important assumption that mother-offspring stable isotope values are positively and linearly correlated. In addition, any change in the mother-offspring bulk tissues and individual amino acids that occurred during gestation was investigated. Whiskers sampled from southern elephant seal pups (Mirounga leonina) and temporally overlapping whiskers from their mothers were analyzed. Background: Gastrointestinal (GI) dysfunction is prevalent in Parkinson’s disease (PD). Symptoms are evident throughout the disease course, affect the length of the GI tract and impact on patient quality of life and management. We clarify real-life differences in the frequency and severity of GI symptoms in a cohort of PD and healthy control (HC) subjects.

Methods: 103 PD patients were compared to 81 HC subjects. Outcome measures collected from validated questionnaires included constipation severity, upper and lower GI symptoms and physical activity.

The purpose of the research was to develop a predictive model of the effect of patient characteristics on outcomes and resource utilization in telehealth interventions for chronic disease management. Clinical studies have shown high variability in telehealth across settings and populations. The central hypothesis of this study was that patient characteristics, including disease type, illness severity, demographic information, and socio-technical preferences play a role in determining telehealth intervention outcomes. Women with substance use disorders (SUD) face unique barriers to substance use treatment, and as a result, are less likely than their male counterparts to seek treatment for the disorder. Cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) is an evidence-based treatment known to reduce relapse rates by teaching clients to recognize and respond to their cues for substance use. Recent research suggests CBT may be particularly of benefit to women. Alveolar bone marrow stromal cells (aBMSCs) play important roles in craniofacial wound healing. To establish an easy, efficient and reliable method to harvest aBMSCs, we compared three different methods: extraction socket aspiration, osteotomy aspiration and bone core digestion. Samples of aBMSC were collected from two groups of subjects. Group 1 (dental extraction): after dental extraction, 22.5-gauge needles were used to collect 0.5-1cc marrow aspirate. Adverse childhood experiences (ACEs) have a profound effect on an individual’s physical and mental health. The World Health Organization has recently updated the ACE questionnaire so it could be used with international populations. The Adverse Childhood Experiences-International Questionnaire (ACE-IQ), has not been translated to Spanish or used with Latine immigrants.

This study translated the ACE-IQ into Spanish, evaluated the psychometric properties of the questionnaire, and collected data on 184 four adult English Language Learners in Chesterfield County, VA.

Cystic Fibrosis (CF) is a degenerative disease, which causes thickening of the airway surface liquid and reduced mucociliary clearance, which provides an ideal habitat for bacterial infections. Early treatment of CF in children can prevent chronic infection, improve quality of life, and increase life expectancy. The most predominant bacteria found in CF-diseased lungs is Pseudomonas aeruginosa (Pa), which can be treated with inhaled tobramycin. Introduction: Sepsis is a serious and life-threatening syndrome affecting 1.7 million Americans annually and resulting in approximately 270,000 deaths. An “obesity paradox” where obese individuals have lower sepsis mortality than their non-obese counterparts has been described. The problem is that the longevity of the effect is unknown, and few studies have examined the obesity paradox after 1-2 months post-diagnosis.

Ambient outdoor ozone, a common of component of photochemical smog and urban air pollution, is linked to various neurological and vascular pathologies. Its immediate reaction with lung surfactant after inhalation results in complete reactivity of the gas, with no active ozone passing into circulation. This indicates the presence of secondary and tertiary mediators in ozone-related systemic pathologies after pulmonary insult. In vasculature, ozone exposure is associated with an acute hypertensive phenotype apparent at least 24 hours after dose, such as experienced on a hot summer afternoon in a large metropolitan area like Los Angeles or Mexico City.
