Effect Of Porosity On Unsteady Mhd Convection Flow Past A Moving Vertical Plate With Ramped Wall Temperature, U. S. Rajput, Mohammad Shareef
Applications and Applied Mathematics: An International Journal (AAM)
The unsteady MHD convective flow of an electrically conducting fluid embedded in a porous medium along moving infinite vertical plate with ramped wall temperature and radiation in a rotating system is investigated here. The fluid taken is incompressible and viscous. The governing PDE’s of the model are solved by using integral transform method. The analytical solutions for the velocity, concentration and temperature are obtained. The expressions for skin friction, rate of mass transfer and heat transfer near the plate are obtained. The effects of various parameters like porosity of the medium, magnetic field, Soret number, thermal radiation, rotation, radiation and …
Shelf Life Extension Of Fresh Strawberries Packaged In Clamshells With Chlorine Dioxide Generating Sachets, Samuel J. Kessler
Shelf Life Extension Of Fresh Strawberries Packaged In Clamshells With Chlorine Dioxide Generating Sachets, Samuel J. Kessler
All Dissertations
Strawberry waste occurs at all lifecycle stages from production, distribution, retail, and household handling; this is an estimated 640 million pounds of strawberries lost valuing at $1.4 billion dollars. Active packaging strategies based on the generation of gaseous chlorine dioxide in the primary package have potential to provide to preserve strawberries in storage extending the shelf life. Benchtop studies have shown significant bactericidal activity of chlorine dioxide and quality preserving effects. As chlorine dioxide travels from the source through the package the concentration decreases as it acts at the surface of the food product. As a result, dose is uneven …
A Lake Divided: Regional Shifts In Trophic Niche Structure Of Lake Powell Fishes Corresponding To The Invasion Of Quagga Mussels, Nathan Richard St Andre
A Lake Divided: Regional Shifts In Trophic Niche Structure Of Lake Powell Fishes Corresponding To The Invasion Of Quagga Mussels, Nathan Richard St Andre
Theses and Dissertations
Introduced species can become invasive and cause catastrophic alterations to the system they invade. Both zebra mussels (Dreissena polymorpha) and quagga mussels (Dreissena bugensis) have caused significant ecosystem alterations wherever they have invaded. These Dreissena species have caused changes in water quality and biodiversity and have disrupted energy pathways which can have cascading effects on other trophic levels. Recently quagga mussels invaded Lake Powell, a reservoir located in the southwestern USA, creating the possibility of a trophic cascade that could alter energy flow in the reservoir and change the trophic niche structure of the fishes in the lake. However, due …

“Research on multicultural learning has focused on formal and local settings, such as schools, but young people are interacting with, and therefore learning from, informal settings and nonlocal contexts, including online platforms.” (Kim, 2016, p. 1). The instructor must be vigilant in selecting online teaching pedagogy when offering sensitive topics of courses because face-to-face intimacy is usually a component of more traditional courses in diversity (Matloob Haghanikar, 2019). The purpose of this current paper is to align critical parts of an experiential race relations curriculum (Clarke, 2019; Kranz & Lund, 2004) in a face-to-face setting with digital technologies available for …

Literacy Based Behavioral Interventions: A Review Of The Literature, Shannon R. Eshman
Theses and Dissertations
In this systematic review of the literature on literacy-based behavioral interventions (LBBIs), ten selected articles were compared to the Quality Indicators prescribed by the Council for Exceptional Children (CEC). There were eight main categories of standards which included 1) context, 2) participant characteristics, 3) description of the intervention, 4) how it was implemented, 5) if the implementation had fidelity and 6) validity, 7) outcome measures, and 8) data analysis. Each of the studies was evaluated according to these indicators by using a coding chart. Results indicated that LBBIs can be considered an evidence-based practice according to the CEC standards.
Proactive Management In Academic Libraries: Promoting Improved Communication And Inclusion Of Academic Librarians And Archivists In Cybersecurity Policy Creation, Paul J. Luft
Theses and Dissertations
Although increasing cybersecurity threats continue in libraries, not many studies are available which examine surrounding cybersecurity policies. Even less has been done on specific types of libraries such as academic and archives. When it comes to academic libraries, cybersecurity policies take a top-down approach to managing and creating policies. The problem is that both academic libraries and archives are unique areas within a university setting. Some of the general policies do not always handle specific issues dealt with in an academic library or archives. This paper investigates if an actual gap or void in policy exists which could create issues …

Research Papers
The increasing use of social media enables predators to seek out and recruit victims through social networking sites. The overall goal is to outsmarting their manipulation of users by understanding and exposing their techniques to families and communities.
Social media networks, in particular Facebook, are a feeding ground for sexual predators with the use of media as a tool to lure, recruit, and control victims. Knowing the process of recruiting for online sex trafficking will protect users and be more aware of the dangers of social media. With a sex trafficking lawsuit pending against Facebook, the social media network needs …
School Ready, Mind Ready, Let's Learn...From Home, Ashlyn Barajas
School Ready, Mind Ready, Let's Learn...From Home, Ashlyn Barajas
Capstone Projects and Master's Theses
This year school has dramatically changed from in-person class to class that is done remotely over a device. Thus, the focus issue addressed in this capstone project is understanding and creating a designated at-home learning environment where students who are doing remote learning can benefit. This is important for students and parents because students are now completing the school year online and at home. An argument made is that creating a designated school area at home will give students a school mindset and create fewer distractions, therefore letting them concentrate on their schoolwork. Considerations of the issue included the perspectives …

Got Health? Student Health Through Distance Learning, Micah Angela Malabag
Capstone Projects and Master's Theses
Keeping kids healthy has always been a challenging task due to a plethora of reasons, but leaders in education have been doing their best to overcome this obstacle. Unfortunately, the COVID-19 pandemic has made this challenge even greater. It has been more difficult to make an impact on student health because of distance learning. Healthy food programs and physical activity in school have been harder to reach, and because of this second Stay-At-Home order in California, it may now be a further reach. The focus of this capstone is on how students are taking care of their physical health through …

Capstone Projects and Master's Theses
The DatashareMontereyCounty website was created by combining Conduent technology and knowledgeable staff from the Monterey County Public Health Department. This project attempted to solve the disengagement between many people in Monterey County and health interventions/prevention initiatives set in place by the health department. Two contributing factors related to community disengagement were that residents were not always aware of works the health department was attempting to promote and the complexity of health data (statistics). The main focus of the project demonstrates how understanding health information may or may not impact decision making. When concepts are difficult to understand this can deter …

Support Group Outcomes For Hispanic/Latinx Youth In San Benito County, Melina M. Perez
Support Group Outcomes For Hispanic/Latinx Youth In San Benito County, Melina M. Perez
Capstone Projects and Master's Theses
Relatively few studies have examined the process of social/cultural detachment in Hispanic/Latinx youth in the United States. The present project adopted an ecological approach to this issue, focusing on mezzo- and macro-level support system development, apart from micro-level character and self-esteem development. Educational disparities, acculturation stress, and familial oppression lead to gaps between parents, adolescents, schools, and the community. Following the Youth Alliance’s philosophy that youth need support from multiple sources in order to heal, the Guiding and Understanding Individuals in Achieving Success (GUIAS) program’s support group sessions bridge these gaps. By offering culture- and gender-sensitive lessons, hands-on activities, and …

There is evidence that people with disabilities are more likely to be discriminated against and to have disproportionate health care disparities compared to people who are able-bodied during the devastating COVID-19 pandemic. In light of COVID-19, telehealth has been transformed to the primary health care delivery due to social restrictions of most, globally. Disability-inclusive telehealth design can promote culturally diverse groups access and more accurate COVID-19 information, knowledge, public health measures, and guidelines of preventive strategies for acquiring COVID-19. Applying multicultural competencies is required for healthcare providers to maximize health engagement and outcomes of PWD. In many areas of health …

Irreparably Corrupt And Permanently Incorrigible: Georgia’S Procedures For Sentencing Children To Die In Prison, Rachel Ness-Maddox
Mercer Law Review
Right now, two teenagers live in Georgia prisons, knowing they will be incarcerated for the rest of their lives.Countless adults are serving sentences of life without the possibility of parole (LWOP) for crimes they, too, committed when they were teenagers. It is difficult to find in officially‑reported data adults serving sentences they received for crimes they committed while children. This is because, once the two teenagers specifically noted in the Georgia Department of Corrections’ Inmate Statistical Profileturn twenty, they will move to the next data bracket for imprisoned people between the ages of twenty and twenty‑nine, just as all the …
Court-Appointment Compensation And Rural Access To Justice, Hannah Haksgaard
Court-Appointment Compensation And Rural Access To Justice, Hannah Haksgaard
Faculty Publications
Hourly rates paid to court-appointed lawyers impact access to justice. Court appointed lawyers provide necessary counsel in civil and criminal cases, yet hourly rates in many jurisdictions are so low that many lawyers cannot afford to take court-appointed cases. This article argues that low hourly rates cause problems: namely, appointed lawyers will be insufficient in number, inaccessible to their clients, and sometimes even ineffective. These problems are heightened in rural America where they are compounded by geographical distance and the rural lawyer shortage. This article concludes by suggesting a number of policy solutions.

Haemonchus contortus is a critical parasite of goats and sheep. Infection by this blood-feeding gastrointestinal nematode (GIN) parasite has significant health consequences, especially in lambs and kids. The parasite has developed resistance to virtually all known classes of small molecule anthelmintics used to treat it, giving rise in some areas to multidrug resistant parasites that are very difficult to control. Thus, new anthelmintics are urgently needed. Bacillus thuringiensis (Bt) crystal protein 5B (Cry5B), a naturally occurring protein made by a bacterium widely and safely used around the world as a bioinsecticide, represents a new non-small molecule modality for treating GINs. …

Binary Black Hole Information Loss Paradox And Future Prospects, Ayan Mitra, Pritam Chattopadhyay, Goutam Paul, Vasileios Zarikas
Journal Articles
Various techniques to tackle the black hole information paradox have been proposed. A new way out to tackle the paradox is via the use of a pseudo-density operator. This approach has successfully dealt with the problem with a two-qubit entangle system for a single black hole. In this paper, we present the interaction with a binary black hole system by using an arrangement of the three-qubit system of Greenberger–Horne–Zeilinger (GHZ) state. We show that our results are in excellent agreement with the theoretical value. We have also studied the interaction between the two black holes by considering the correlation between …
Unregistered Patents, Miriam Marcowitz-Bitton, Emily Michiko Morris
Unregistered Patents, Miriam Marcowitz-Bitton, Emily Michiko Morris
Washington Law Review
Although all should be treated equally under the law, patent law has long been known to favor some less than others. Patentable technology is highly heterogeneous, covering everything from minute improvements in electronics to pioneering new artificial organs, but patent protection itself is purely a one-size-fits-all system. Patents thus overreward some while underrewarding others. On the one hand, patents overreward low-investment, low-value inventions by granting them the same twenty-year term of protection as those that required much higher investments and yield much higher social value. The resulting glut of low-quality patents has contributed greatly to the “patent crisis” of opportunistic …
Never Mistake Law For Justice: Releasing Indigent Defendants From Legal Purgatory, R.K. Brinkmann
Never Mistake Law For Justice: Releasing Indigent Defendants From Legal Purgatory, R.K. Brinkmann
Washington Law Review
Washington courts impose two mandatory legal financial obligations (LFOs) on almost anyone who pleads guilty to or is convicted of a crime: a $100 DNA sample fee and a crime victim penalty assessment of $250 for misdemeanors and $500 for felonies. These fines run afoul of the Social Security Act, which bars attachment of Social Security benefits to pay debts, including LFOs. As a result, defendants whose sole source of income is Social Security benefits are not obligated to pay their mandatory LFOs. But such defendants cannot obtain certificates of discharge to clear their conviction records and thus complete their …
