Forced convection heat transfer for air side over aluminum extruded micro-channel fat tubes, which used in air cooled condensers, was studied theoretically. Mathematical modeling of air flow outside the aluminum flat tubes were carried out to study the proposed inclination angles and evaluate the thermal performance for different operating parameters. A computational fluid dynamic software (CFD) is used to solve this problem. Two proposed cases for inclination of the flat tubes are studied. The first case is to make convergent and divergent channels for air Now, while the second case is tilting of all tubes in parallel to each other. …

Rheological Effect During Swelling Of Polymer Membranes In Aqueous Solutions With Different Dithyremic Content, Yulchi T. Juraev, Leonard M. Sabirov, Nikolay F. Bunkin, Valeriy A. Kozlov
Scientific Journal of Samarkand University
It was shown that the swelling of the initially hydrophobic Nafion plate in ordinary water (157 ppm deuterium content) and in deuterium-depleted water (1 ppm deuterium content) in a limited volume cell occurs differently. It turned out that small changes in the deuterium content in water lead to significant differences in the dynamics of swelling of the polymer membrane. For a 175-micron thick Nafion plate, this effect is most pronounced when the distance between the windows is L = 200 microns.

Measurements of the dose-forming radionuclide concentrations such as Rа-226, Тh-232 and К-40 were carried out in samples of building materials with different ageing times. The radium equivalent activities of the samples were determined. Possible values of the correcting coefficients to the activity of Ra-226 that take into account the radioactive equilibrium were calculated. This, in turn, allows to perform rapid radiological analysis of building materials.

In this dissertation, we introduce a novel cognitive engine design for intelligent, self-aware and spectrum-agile communications. The targeted cognitive radio (CR) has sensing and learning abilities that incorporate advanced signal processing and machine/deep learning (ML/DL) techniques. It can operate over a heterogeneous wideband spectrum that is much wider than the ones proposed in the literature, most likely covering several hundreds of MHz. It has the ability to detect existing signals in the surrounding RF environment and identify their origins. Furthermore, it cognitively uses channel selection, transmit power control and interference cancellation to adapt its communications mode in response to observed …

Certain scientific subjects are often divisive or technical, which makes those topics difficult to discuss with audiences outside the scientific sphere. One way of getting around this obstacle is to cater scientific communication to different target audiences to cut through any audience biases. In order to accomplish that, a communicator needs to understand the relationship between audiences’ worldviews, and what they know, feel, and do regarding the subject at hand, and then how that relationship influences the types of media audiences trust and to which they respond positively. The following study investigates the worldviews of a military audience with respect …

Numerical Evaluation Of Effective Thermal Response Of Heterogeneous Materials, Kevin W. Irick
Numerical Evaluation Of Effective Thermal Response Of Heterogeneous Materials, Kevin W. Irick
Mechanical Engineering ETDs
Heterogeneity in materials leads to increased complication of physics, at the level or scale where heterogeneity exists, making analysis and material behavior predictions more difficult. As a result of the intricate descriptions or understanding of the physics required to determine the behavior of a heterogenous material or system, practitioners frequently prefer the use of effective properties or responses. This body of work is dedicated to performing computational analyses on the thermal behavior of heterogeneous materials and evaluating the corresponding analyses using formal verification approaches. Custom finite element method code was used for solving the heat equation in a variety of …

Solar Insolation Micro-Forecasts Using Longwave Infrared Sensors And Artificial Intelligence, Anthony R. Menicucci
Mechanical Engineering ETDs
Solar Insolation Micro-Forecasts (SIMF) are used by Independent Service Operators (ISOs) and other grid operators to maintain constant and stable electrical grid frequency, voltage, power factor and waveform across their transmission infrastructure. Intermittent, thick, dense and typically cumulus clouds negatively impact the electrical grid by quickly turning on and off power production from large solar photovoltaic (PV) fields, causing grid stability problems between generation and load. Forecasting insolation values over large PV fields allows operators the chance to anticipate and proactively implement mitigation strategies like engaging spinning reserve from gas turbines, deploying generators, buying power in the spot market, and …

The Impact Of Calendering On The Electronic Conductivity Heterogenity Of Lithium-Ion Electrode Films, Emilee Elizabeth Hunter
Theses and Dissertations
Advancements in Li-ion batteries are needed especially for the development of electric vehicles and stationary energy storage. Prior research has shown mesoscale variations in electrode electronic conductive properties, which can cause capacity loss and uneven electrochemical behavior of Li-ion batteries. A micro-four-line probe (μ4LP) was used to measure electronic conductivity and contact resistance over mm-length scales in that prior work. This work describes improvements to overcome the challenge of unreliable surface contact between theμ4LP and the sample. Ultimately a second generation flexible probe called the micro-radial-surface probe (μ4LP) was designed and produced. The test fixture was also optimized to obtain …
