Improving A Wireless Localization System Via Machine Learning Techniques And Security Protocols, Zachary Yorio Dec 2020

Improving A Wireless Localization System Via Machine Learning Techniques And Security Protocols, Zachary Yorio

Masters Theses, 2020-current

The recent advancements made in Internet of Things (IoT) devices have brought forth new opportunities for technologies and systems to be integrated into our everyday life. In this work, we investigate how edge nodes can effectively utilize 802.11 wireless beacon frames being broadcast from pre-existing access points in a building to achieve room-level localization. We explain the needed hardware and software for this system and demonstrate a proof of concept with experimental data analysis. Improvements to localization accuracy are shown via machine learning by implementing the random forest algorithm. Using this algorithm, historical data can train the model and make …

A Comparative Study On Statistical And Machine Learning Forecasting Methods For An Fmcg Company, Zenah Yaser Alzubaidi Dec 2020

A Comparative Study On Statistical And Machine Learning Forecasting Methods For An Fmcg Company, Zenah Yaser Alzubaidi

Theses

Demand forecasting has been an area of study among scholars and businessmen ever since the start of the industrial revolution and has only gained focus in recent years with the advancements in AI. Accurate forecasts are no longer a luxury, but a necessity to have for effective decisions made in planning production and marketing. Many aspects of the business depend on demand, and this is particularly true for the Fast-Moving Consumer Goods industry where the high volume and demand volatility poses a challenge for planners to generate accurate forecasts as consumer demand complexity rises. Inaccurate demand forecasts lead to multiple …

Library Philosophy and Practice (e-journal)

A bibliometric analysis of scientific research production of the top five most productive countries in comparison with India in nuclear and high energy physics is presented during the period 1996-2019 using Scopus-linked SCImago electronic database. To validate the present study, some selected bibliometric indicators such as published documents, their citations and citations per document has been studied. In total, 769180 research documents were published worldwide in journal, conference proceedings and in book series. United States (16.47%), Germany(8.64%), Japan (6.65%), China (6.41%) and Russian Federation (5.89%) were the top most productive countries rankwise, whereas India ranked 10th with 21157 research …

The following areas such as the year-wise distribution of contribution, impact factor of the journals, year of inception of the journals, periodicity of the journals, citation analysis, collaboration of countries for research, funding agencies, the collaboration of organizations by country wise and area of research concentration have been analyzed. 30 journals have been identified for the study of Computer Society Transactions on IEEE. These journals have been identified based on various quality parameters such as impact factor, citations, …

A Comparison Of The Two-Option Versus The Four-Option Multiple-Choice Item: A Case For Fewer Distractors, Allan Bateson, William R. Dardick Dec 2020

A Comparison Of The Two-Option Versus The Four-Option Multiple-Choice Item: A Case For Fewer Distractors, Allan Bateson, William R. Dardick

Personnel Assessment and Decisions

Multiple choice test items typically consist of the key and 3-4 distractors. However, research has supported the efficacy of using fewer alternatives. Haladyna and Downing (1993) found that it is difficult to write test items with more than one plausible distractor, resulting in items with a correct answer and one alternative, also known as the alternate choice (AC) format. We constructed two 32-item tests; one with four alternatives (MC4) and one with two (AC), using an inter-judge agreement approach to eliminate distractors. Tests were administered to 138 personnel working for a U.S. Government agency. Testing time was significantly less and …

Symbolic Boundaries And The Clinical Preparation Of Teacher Candidates, Bilge Cerezci, Donald Mcclure Dec 2020

Symbolic Boundaries And The Clinical Preparation Of Teacher Candidates, Bilge Cerezci, Donald Mcclure

Journal of Vincentian Social Action

The purpose of this essay is to make sense of the two divides in the clinical preparation of teacher candidates: (1) between professional knowledge and skilled practice, and (2) between university-based courses and school-based field experiences. This essay extends the work of Lamont and Molnár (2002) to conceptualize symbolic boundaries related to these two divides. Within this framework, a review of the research highlights three main implications. First, teacher education programs need to design teaching and learning experiences that allow teacher candidates to use the professional knowledge they have gained through their university courses across multiple educational settings. Second, such …

Improving Co-Teachers Relationships, Asher Samuel Dec 2020

Improving Co-Teachers Relationships, Asher Samuel

Journal of Vincentian Social Action

Co-teaching is an instructional strategy wherein two teachers, a general education teacher and a special education teacher, share instructional responsibilities in a general education class that includes students with disabilities (SWDs) (Friend, 2010). An important component of co-teaching is the relationship between the teachers (Kohler-Evans, 2006), which has been described as a professional marriage (Friend, 2010). However, there is limited information on factors influencing the relationship. This study investigated if teaching experience affects co-teachers’ perception of teamwork. Participants included special and general education co-teachers from eight public school districts in New York City. Co-teachers from grades K-12 completed the Tuckman …

The Impact Of Universally Accelerating Eighth Grade Mathematics Students On Participation And Achievement, Patrick Walsh Dec 2020

The Impact Of Universally Accelerating Eighth Grade Mathematics Students On Participation And Achievement, Patrick Walsh

Journal of Vincentian Social Action

In New York State students are traditionally scheduled to take Algebra I in their first year of high school mathematics. However, in many schools, the “top” students in a cohort have access to this course in eighth grade, tracking these high-achieving students ahead of their lower-achieving peers. In response, some schools have adopted the policy of “Algebra for all” in eighth grade – called universal acceleration. While this policy ensures equal access to a challenging curriculum for all students, regardless of race, socioeconomic status, and prior achievement, there is a concern that not all students are developmentally ready to take …

The Algorithm Project Research And Modeling Of Information Systems, Victoria Kuznetsova, S.B. Dovletova, Mixriddin Raximov, Gulnora Muxtorova, Kim Yelena

Bulletin of TUIT: Management and Communication Technologies

Pre-project research is a strategic stage of the object design process, based on the results of which a decision is made on the level of competitiveness, development prospects, setting a task for the project, labor intensity and feasibilityof creating a system in general.

The existing methods of pre-project research have a high degree of generalization and are practically not formalized in any way. The disadvantage of these methods is that they consider only specific individual prototypes and are aimed at finding solutions to current problems and eliminating individual shortcomings of a particular prototype. Thus, it Is Concluded that It Is …

In What Ways Can Play-Based Learning In Preschool And Kindergarten Classrooms Support Healthy Development?, Angela Bjelde Dec 2020

In What Ways Can Play-Based Learning In Preschool And Kindergarten Classrooms Support Healthy Development?, Angela Bjelde

Graduate Teacher Education

Play-based learning was identified as a developmentally appropriate practice (DAP) within early childhood education (ECE) (NAEYC, 2009). This paper examined current research to determine the impact of play-based learning on the development of preschool and kindergarten children. According to research, play offers effective, innovative approaches to pedagogy that meets children’s diverse needs as a whole learner. Although research has underlined the importance of play for the future of ECE, a number of diverse challenges have created difficulty with implementing play-based learning in preschool and kindergarten classrooms. Most early childhood educators have faced increasing difficulty with advocating for play given the …
