Course Portfolio For Math 309: Introduction To Mathematical Proofs - A Peer Review Of Teaching Project Benchmark Portfolio, Josh Brummer
Course Portfolio For Math 309: Introduction To Mathematical Proofs - A Peer Review Of Teaching Project Benchmark Portfolio, Josh Brummer
UNL Faculty Course Portfolios
In this course portfolio, I examine dimensions of an active learning curriculum developed for a sophomore-level undergraduate course serving as an introduction to mathematical proofs. Prominent course goals include developing effective practices for communicating mathematics using formal language, learning to read, comprehend, and evaluate the validity of mathematical proofs, and practicing to write rigorous and concise mathematical proofs. I explore a new piece of collaborative annotation software called Perusall to help students read and understand mathematics together, and I analyze mastery level grading scales across exams throughout the semester. The portfolio also contains information about the structure and syllabus for …

Ateneo Innovation Center
The Ateneo de Manila University (Philippines), through its Ateneo Innovation Center (AIC), integrated existing simple technologies into one system – the Water-Electricity-Lighting System (WELS) – to respond to the need for potable water, lighting and communication. WELS is a portable clean water system with provision for lighting and cellular phone charging. It can be connected to a rainwater harvesting facility. Ten years of WELS deployments revealed its flexibility for customization in order to address varied water needs, especially for disaster response. Review of documentations done on past installation experiences highlights the value of engagement between university-based technology providers and community-recipients. …

A 16-month (July 2018–October 2019) dataset of size-resolved aerosol composition is used to examine the sources and characteristics of five organic acids (oxalate, succinate, adipate, maleate, phthalate) and methanesulfonate (MSA) in Metro Manila, Philippines. As one of the most polluted megacities globally, Metro Manila offers a view of how diverse sources and meteorology impact the relative amounts and size distributions of these species. A total of 66 sample sets were collected with a Micro-Orifice Uniform Deposit Impactor (MOUDI), of which 54 sets were analyzed for composition. Organic acids and MSA surprisingly were less abundant than in other global regions that …
“Lol, No, I Didn’T Read”: Students’ Difficulties With Choosing Strategies For Success, Amanda W. Joyce, Jana Hackathorn
“Lol, No, I Didn’T Read”: Students’ Difficulties With Choosing Strategies For Success, Amanda W. Joyce, Jana Hackathorn
Pedagogicon Conference Proceedings
The purpose of this investigation was to examine how student expectations for their performance in a class related to strategies used to succeed in that class. Results from our study suggest that, even though students are good judges of their academic capabilities, they are not any more or less likely to engage in effective learning strategies even when they begin the semester expecting lower final grades.
Adaptive Filtration Of The Uav Movement Parameters Based On The Aoa-Measurement Sensor Networks, Igor Tovkach, Serhii Zhuk
Adaptive Filtration Of The Uav Movement Parameters Based On The Aoa-Measurement Sensor Networks, Igor Tovkach, Serhii Zhuk
International Journal of Aviation, Aeronautics, and Aerospace
Currently, the urgent task is to assess the small-sized maneuvering UAVs movement parameters. The location of an unknown UAV as a radio source can be determined using AoA measurements of the wireless sensor network. To describe the movement of a maneuvering UAV, a model is used in the form of a dynamic system with switching in discrete time. The values of switching variable determine type of UAV movement. To synthesize trajectory filtering algorithms, the Markov property of the extended process is used, which includes a vector of UAV movement parameters and a switching variable. The optimal trajectory filtering algorithm describes …
Case Report Of Kikuchi-Fujimoto Disease From Sub-Saharan Africa: An Important Mimic Of Tuberculous Lymphadenitis, Karishma Sharma, Fredrick Otieno, Reena Shah
Case Report Of Kikuchi-Fujimoto Disease From Sub-Saharan Africa: An Important Mimic Of Tuberculous Lymphadenitis, Karishma Sharma, Fredrick Otieno, Reena Shah
Internal Medicine, East Africa
Kikuchi-Fujimoto disease (KFD) is a rare form of painful lymphadenopathy, usually cervical, which is more common in Southeast Asia and rarely reported from Africa. Symptoms are usually nonspecific (fever, night sweats, etc.), and can mimic more common diseases such as tuberculosis (TB) in endemic areas. We report a case of a 29-year-old black African woman who was admitted with headache, neck pain, fever, and lymphadenopathy. She was found to have aseptic meningitis, eventually attributed to TB based on cervical node biopsy, although further histology suggested KFD. Blood tests for systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) were negative; she had already been commenced …
Shrimp Farming In Thailand: A Pathway To Sustainability, Warinyupa Phornprapha
Shrimp Farming In Thailand: A Pathway To Sustainability, Warinyupa Phornprapha
Pomona Senior Theses
Throughout this thesis I have laid out several factors that have contributed to the sustainability of shrimp farming in Thailand, and if sustainability whilst maintaining production can ever be achieved. To find out the current situation of shrimp farming in Thailand, the history of global and Thai shrimp farming is described. The social and environmental problems of the unsustainable history of shrimp farming in Thailand is then considered. Solutions to these effects conclude that it is up to the consumer to demand for better regulations from the government and the shrimp companies to ensure a sustainable future for shrimp farming …
Gulf Coast Marine Laboratories Past, Present And Future, Donald F. Boesch
Gulf Coast Marine Laboratories Past, Present And Future, Donald F. Boesch
Gulf and Caribbean Research
I spent my nearly 50—year career in marine science working at marine laboratories, most of that as a chief executive officer. So, it is appropriate that my reflections are about marine laboratories, rather than my own science. After relating my career course, I turn my attention to the history and development of marine laboratories along the U.S. coast of the Gulf of Mexico (GOM). Surprisingly, the region’s first laboratory was actually constructed in 1903 at Cameron, LA, but operated less than a decade before closing. It was not until after World War II that the university—affiliated marine laboratories of today …

Estimates of Colombian Caribbean coral percent cover in the Southern Caribbean are consistent with those throughout the Caribbean Sea, which has declined to about 10% of historical levels in the last few decades. Human activities like destructive fishing techniques in the marine parks have degraded the reefs over the last few decades. Colombia’s Marine Protected Areas (MPAs) have thousands of square kilometers to map and patrol and few resources to devote to scientific and restoration efforts. Efforts to implement sexual reproduction techniques for restoration are starting to successfully propagate and settle corals on ceramic plates for reef deployment in the …
Pelagic Sargassum Prediction And Marine Connectivity In The Tropical Atlantic, Donald R. Johnson, James S. Franks, Hazel A. Oxenford, Shelly-Ann L. Cox
Pelagic Sargassum Prediction And Marine Connectivity In The Tropical Atlantic, Donald R. Johnson, James S. Franks, Hazel A. Oxenford, Shelly-Ann L. Cox
Gulf and Caribbean Research
Since 2011, pelagic Sargassum has experienced extraordinary blooms in the Tropical Atlantic where a system of persistent but seasonally variable currents has retained and consolidated it in large masses. Although beneficial at sea, principally as a unique pelagic habitat, when Sargassum inundates the nearshore environment it can have catastrophic effects on tourism, fisheries, health, and local ecosystems. Providing advanced warning of arrival dates of large masses of Sargassum is critical for enabling preparations and planning for its removal, use, and mitigation. Predictions of arrival time and location involve satellite identification of Sargassum at sea together with ocean current data for …
Digital Hurewicz Theorem And Digital Homology Theory, Samira Sahar Jamil, Danish Ali
Digital Hurewicz Theorem And Digital Homology Theory, Samira Sahar Jamil, Danish Ali
Turkish Journal of Mathematics
In this paper, we develop homology groups for digital images based on cubical singular homology theory for topological spaces. Using this homology, we obtain two main results that make this homology different from already existing homologies of digital images. We prove digital analog of Hurewicz theorem for digital cubical singular homology. We also show that the homology functors developed in this paper satisfy properties that resemble the Eilenberg-Steenrod axioms of homology theory, in particular, the homotopy and the excision axioms. We finally define axioms of digital homology theory.

$Q$-Analogues Of Five Difficult Hypergeometric Evaluations, Xiaojing Chen, Wenchang Chu
Turkish Journal of Mathematics
A nonterminating balanced $q$-series is examined by means of the modified Abel lemma on summation by parts that leads to $q$-analogues of five difficult identities for classical hypergeometric series, including three formulae conjectured by Gosper in 1977.

The Möbius Transformation Of Continued Fractions With Bounded Upper And Lower Partial Quotients, Wencai Liu
Turkish Journal of Mathematics
Let $h$: $x\mapsto \frac{ax+b}{cx+d} $ be the nondegenerate Möbius transformation with integer entries. We get a bound of the continued fraction of $h(x)$ by upper and lower bounds of the continued fraction of $x$.
Higher-Order Character Dedekind Sum, Mümün Can
Higher-Order Character Dedekind Sum, Mümün Can
Turkish Journal of Mathematics
In this paper, we are interested in higher-order character Dedekind sum% \[ \sum\limits_{v=0}^{ck-1}\chi_{1}\left( v\right) \mathcal{B}_{p,\chi_{2}% }\left( a\frac{v+z}{c}+x\right) \mathcal{B}_{q}\left( b\frac{v+z}% {ck}+y\right) ,\text{ }a,b,c\in\mathbb{N} \text{ and }x,y,z\in\mathbb{R}, \] where $\chi_{1}$ and $\chi_{2}$ are primitive characters of modulus $k,$ $\mathcal{B}_{p}\left( x\right) $ and $\mathcal{B}_{p,\chi_{2}}\left( x\right) $ are Bernoulli and generalized Bernoulli functions, respectively. We employ the Fourier series technique to demonstrate reciprocity formulas for this sum. Derived formulas are analogues of Mikolas' reciprocity formula. Moreover, we offer Petersson--Knopp type identities for this sum.
Star Versions Of The Hurewicz Basis Covering Property And Strong Measure Zero Spaces, Manoj Bhardwaj, Alexander Osipov
Star Versions Of The Hurewicz Basis Covering Property And Strong Measure Zero Spaces, Manoj Bhardwaj, Alexander Osipov
Turkish Journal of Mathematics
In this paper,we introduced the star version of the Hurewicz basis covering property, studied by Babinkostova, Ko?cinac, and Scheepers in 2004. The authors obtained the relationship between star-selection principles and the star version of the Hurewicz basis covering property for metrizable spaces. We also consider the star version of Hurewicz measure zero spaces and characterized these new spaces by the star-selection principle related to star-Hurewicz spaces.
Pell-Lucas Collocation Method To Solve High-Order Linear Fredholm-Volterra Integro-Differential Equations And Residual Correction, Şuayi̇p Yüzbaşi, Gamze Yildirim
Pell-Lucas Collocation Method To Solve High-Order Linear Fredholm-Volterra Integro-Differential Equations And Residual Correction, Şuayi̇p Yüzbaşi, Gamze Yildirim
Turkish Journal of Mathematics
In this article, a collocation method based on Pell-Lucas polynomials is studied to numerically solve higher order linear Fredholm-Volterra integro differential equations (FVIDE). The approximate solutions are assumed in form of the truncated Pell-Lucas polynomial series. By using Pell-Lucas polynomials and relations of their derivatives, the solution form and its derivatives are brought to matrix forms. By applying the collocation method based on equally spaced collocation points, the method reduces the problem to a system of linear algebraic equations. Solution of this system determines the coefficients of assumed solution. Error estimation is made and also a method with the help …

Analytic Functions Associated With Cardioid Domain, Sarfraz Nawaz Malik, Mohsan Raza, Janusz Sokol, Saira Zainab
Turkish Journal of Mathematics
In this article, we define and study new domain for analytic functions which is named as cardioid domain for being of cardioid structure. Analytic functions producing cardioid domain are defined and studied to some extent. The Fekete-Szegö inequality is also investigated for such analytic functions.
Max Cs And Min Cs Modules, Truong Dinh Tu, Thuat Do
Max Cs And Min Cs Modules, Truong Dinh Tu, Thuat Do
Turkish Journal of Mathematics
In this work, we study max CS, min CS, max-min CS modules and their endomorphism rings. Under certain conditions (e.g., related to nonsingularity and duo-ness), we prove that a module is max CS if and only if it is min CS, and that direct sums of min (max) CS modules is again min (max) CS. Finally, symmetry of max-min CS property on the endomorphism rings of max-min CS modules is investigated.
Dual And Canonical Dual Of Controlled K-G-Frames In Hilbert Spaces, Hessam Hosseinnezhad
Dual And Canonical Dual Of Controlled K-G-Frames In Hilbert Spaces, Hessam Hosseinnezhad
Turkish Journal of Mathematics
This paper is devoted to studying the controlled dual K-g-Bessel sequences of controlled K-g-frames. In fact, we introduce the concept of dual K-g-Bessel sequences of controlled K-g-frames and then, we present some necessary and/or sufficient conditions under which a controlled g-Bessel sequence is a controlled dual K-g-frame of a given controlled K-g-frame. Subsequently, we pay attention to investigating the structure of the canonical controlled dual K-g-Bessel sequence of a Parseval controlled K-g-frame and some other related results.

A Special Cone Construction And Its Connections To Structured Tensors And Their Spectra, Vehbi Paksoy
Turkish Journal of Mathematics
In this work we construct a cone comprised of a group of tensors (hypermatrices) satisfying a special condition, and we study its relations to structured tensors such as M-tensors and H-tensors. We also investigate its applications to spectra of certain Z-tensors. We obtain an inequality for the spectral radius of certain tensors when the order m is odd.

Turkish Journal of Mathematics
Let $K$ be a totally real number field with narrow class number one and $O_K$ be its ring of integers. We prove that there is a constant $B_K$ depending only on $K$ such that for any prime exponent $p>B_K$ the Fermat type equation $x^p+y^p=z^2$ with $x,y,z\in O_K$ does not have certain type of solutions. Our main tools in the proof are modularity, level lowering, and image of inertia comparisons.
Positive Periodic Solutions For A Class Of Second-Order Differential Equations With State-Dependent Delays, Ahleme Bouakkaz, Rabah Khemis
Positive Periodic Solutions For A Class Of Second-Order Differential Equations With State-Dependent Delays, Ahleme Bouakkaz, Rabah Khemis
Turkish Journal of Mathematics
In this paper, we consider a class of second order differential equations with iterative source term. The main results are obtained by virtue of a Krasnoselskii fixed point theorem and some useful properties of a Green's function which allows us to prove the existence of positive periodic solutions. Finally, an example is included to illustrate the correctness of our results.
$T$-Soft Equality Relation, Tareq Alshami, Mohammed El-Shafei
$T$-Soft Equality Relation, Tareq Alshami, Mohammed El-Shafei
Turkish Journal of Mathematics
The desire of generalizing some set-theoretic properties to the soft set theory motivated many researchers to define various types of soft operators. For example, they redefined the complement of a soft set, and soft union and intersection between two soft sets in a way that satisfies De Morgan's laws. In this paper, we introduce and study the concepts of $T$-soft subset and $T$-soft equality relations. Then, we utilize them to define the concepts of $T$-soft union and $T$-soft intersection for arbitrary family of soft sets. By $T$-soft union, we successfully keep some classical properties via soft set theory. We conclude …
The Meyer Function On The Handlebody Group, Yusuke Kuno, Masatoshi Sato
The Meyer Function On The Handlebody Group, Yusuke Kuno, Masatoshi Sato
Turkish Journal of Mathematics
We give an explicit formula for the signature of handlebody bundles over the circle interms of the homological monodromy. This gives a cobounding function of Meyer's signature cocycle on the mapping class group of a 3-dimensional handlebody, i.e. the handlebody group. As an application, we give a topological interpretation for the generator of the first cohomology group of the hyperelliptic handlebody group.

On Quasi-Affinity And Reducing Subspaces Of Multiplication Operator On A Certain Closed Subspace, Yucheng Li, Lina Song, Wenhua Lan
Turkish Journal of Mathematics
Let $H$ denote a certain closed subspace of the Bergman space $A_{\alpha}^{2}({\B}_{n})(\alpha>-1)$ of the unit ball in $\mathbb{C}^{n}$. In this paper, we prove that the operator $\bigoplus\limits_{1}^{m}M_{z^{(s_{1},\cdots,s_{n})}}$ is quasi-affine to the multiplication operator $M_{z^{(ms_{1},\cdot\cdot\cdot,ms_{n})}}$ on $H$. Furthermore, the reducing subspaces of $M_{z^{(ms_{1},\cdots,ms_{n})}}$ are characterized on $H$.

On The Dynamics Of Certain Higher-Order Scalar Difference Equation: Asymptotics, Oscillation, Stability, Pavel Nesterov
On The Dynamics Of Certain Higher-Order Scalar Difference Equation: Asymptotics, Oscillation, Stability, Pavel Nesterov
Turkish Journal of Mathematics
We construct the asymptotics for solutions of the higher-order scalar difference equation that is equivalent to the linear delay difference equation $\Delta y(n)=-g(n)y(n-k)$. We assume that the coefficient of this equation oscillates at the certain level and the oscillation amplitude decreases as $n\to\infty$. Both the ideas of the centre manifold theory and the averaging method are used to construct the asymptotic formulae. The obtained results are applied to the oscillation and stability problems for the solutions of the considered equation.

A Note On Simple Trinomial Units In $U_{1}(\Mathbb{Z}C_{P})$, Necat Görentaş
Turkish Journal of Mathematics
In this paper, some new notions are defined about the unit group $U_{1}(\mathbb{Z}G)$ of a finite group G. Especially, notion of simple unit is defined by using the number of elements in its support and absolutely small coefficients of the unit. Units are classified as monomial, binomial, trinomial and k-nomial, level, unit with level $l$ and simple unit. We have shown triviality of monomial units and nonexistence of binomial units in the unit group $U_{1}(\mathbb{Z}G)$ of an arbitrary finite group G. Some basic results and examples are posed about simple units and simple trinomial units in $U_{1}(\mathbb{Z}C_{p})$of a cyclic group …
