Emotional intelligence is a relatively recent and important concept in psychology, where the individual's ability to control his (her) emotions and to deal with the behavior of those around him (her) is taken into account. This implies a dynamic relationship between concepts such as the opposite which are rationality and emotion, where the emotionally intelligent individual would be located in the right middle of these two poles. A very recent way of representing these triadic relationships is the neutrosophical psychology theory, where if A is a psychological concept, the dynamical interaction of the concept is represented by the scheme ( …

Stress is an inevitable way of adapting each individual to the challenges of the surrounding environment. When the adaptation is done in a negative way and produces physiological or psychological imbalances in the person, then stress is called distress. However, stress is not always harmful to the person, there is stress in situations of joy or happiness, which is known by eustress. In the work environment, distress can cause physical and mental health problems for workers and therefore damage to the dynamics of the job. This paper aims to propose an index of occupational stress measurement based on the Integrative …

Corporate auditing is part of the necessary mechanisms to evaluate and monitor the practices being carried out in enterprises. It also allows for the timely correction of future trends that will damage the company. Internal control is part of these audits, where the company is internally analyzed, and is a highly recommended practice for both state and private companies. Evaluation of internal control presents some challenges, such as the presence of incomplete or contradictory information, as well as the importance of properly understanding and communicating what it is wished to study. This is why in this paper we propose an …

Meat is an important food for human consumption. Its consumption is associated with economic development, so that the more meat consumed, the higher the level of quality of life or index of wealth attributed to a population. This consideration has led, during the second half of the 20th century, to a greater consumption of meat. To prepare different dishes requires an adequate knowledge of cutting meat, so ignoring this aspect would be contradictory with gastronomy. In Ecuador, and particularly in the Patate canton, there is a lack of knowledge about the types of cuts that can be made with meat, …

The dissemination of culture is an activity assumed by teaching institutions. Knowing the cultural elements that characterize each nation allows to preserve the cultural heritage. However, quantifying this result represents a complex task to perform. This research proposes a solution to the problem posed with the design of a multicriteria method for the evaluation of cultural diffusion. The method uses neutrosophical numbers to model uncertainty. The proposal introduced the results in UNIANDES, Ibarra and it was found that it has a high rate of cultural diffusion.

The study of leadership is a fairly recurring topic in the scientific literature in recent years. Some approaches concern with the relationship between leadership and some personality traits of leaders. One field where leadership is of great importance is the business world, where leaders are needed to direct the company's progress because they inspire the other members of the organization. This paper aims to propose a mathematical method for measuring the transformational leadership degree in the company. Transformational leadership is the most complete of leaderships; the transformational leader is versatile, charismatic, communicative, empathic, and produces positive changes in the company. …

Impacts Of Positioning, Power, And Resistance On Efl Learners’ Identity Construction Through Classroom Interaction: A Perspective From Critical Classroom Discourse Analysis, Wenwen Tian, Remart Padua Dumlao

The Qualitative Report

In this study, we explored how positioning, power, and resistance might have possible impacts on learners’ identity construction. We conducted this study in a 6-month language and culture program from August 2018 to January 2019 involving one teacher and 24 English major undergraduate students at a public university in Thailand. Using Kumaravadivelu’s (1999) Critical Classroom Discourse Analysis (CCDA) as an analytical framework and Braun and Clarke's (2006) thematic analysis approach to analysing data , we found three themes that illustrate how participants demonstrated positioning, power, and resistance: (a) learners’ choice of code as passive resistance, (b) circulating power in interaction …

Dyslexia Beyond The Word: An Ecological Study Of Specific Reading Disorder, Benjamin T. Carter

Theses and Dissertations

This dissertation discusses the effects of dyslexia on reading behavior and cognition. It does so by first outlining the overall incidence of dyslexia, providing current definitions, giving a history of scientific inquiry and discussing relevant contemporary research. Thirteen different analyses are then discussed (ten a priori and three post-hoc). Individuals with dyslexia were found to have increased fixation duration, first run dwell time, total dwell time, and refixation probability. The dyslexia group was also highly sensitive to lexical predictability. Within the reading network, the BOLD response was depressed in dyslexia during reading in the following regions: the left medial and …

Cc2vec: Distributed Representations Of Code Changes, Thong Hoang, Hong Jin Kang, Julia Lawall, David Lo

Research Collection School Of Computing and Information Systems

Existing work on software patches often use features specific to a single task. These works often rely on manually identified features, and human effort is required to identify these features for each task. In this work, we propose CC2Vec, a neural network model that learns a representation of code changes guided by their accompanying log messages, which represent the semantic intent of the code changes. CC2Vec models the hierarchical structure of a code change with the help of the attention mechanism and usesmultiple comparison functions to identify the differences between the removed and added code. To evaluate if CC2Vec can …

Is Critical Thinking Really Critical? A Research Study Of The Intentional Planning For The Teaching Of Critical Thinking In The Middle Grades, Michelle Smith

Dissertations

Critical thinking is an integral part of human life. However, it is not intentionally planned for and implemented in most public educational institutions. Due to this lack of planning, not everyone thinks critically. Critical thinking is a skill that must be fostered and developed over a period for it to be applied consistently. Individuals who exhibit critical thinking are increasingly likely to be successful in life.

This study focused on the teaching of critical thinking and was conducted at Wildcat Middle School, located in a suburb of Chicago, IL. The research examined the extent to which teachers intentionally planned for …

When To Make The Sensory Social: Registering In Face-To-Face Openings, Danielle M. Pillet-Shore

Faculty Publications

This article analyzes naturally occurring video-recorded openings during which participants make the sensory social through the action of registering—calling joint attention to a selected, publicly perceiv- able referent so others shift their sensory attention to it. It examines sequence-initial actions that register referents for which a participant is regarded as responsible. Findings demonstrate a systematic preference organization which observably guides when and how people initiate registering sequences sensitive to ownership of, and displayed stance toward, the target referent. Analysis shows how registering an owned referent achieves intersubjectivity and puts involved participants’ face, affiliation, and social relationship on the line. A …

Reconstructing Liberty, Equality, And Marriage: The Missing Nineteenth Amendment Argument, Nan D. Hunter Jun 2020

Reconstructing Liberty, Equality, And Marriage: The Missing Nineteenth Amendment Argument, Nan D. Hunter

Georgetown Law Faculty Publications and Other Works

The social movement that led to adoption of the Nineteenth Amendment sought not only women’s right to vote but also the end to a system of marriage law based on coverture. Under coverture, married women were deprived of property and contract rights and were de jure subservient to their husbands. Coverture also provided the predicate for denial of the vote. The model voter was the independent yeoman or worker able to express his own interests in a democratic system. Women were thought to be properly confined to the domestic sphere and dependent on their husbands, who were presumed to vote …
